I sensed a great disturbance in the force, as though millions of programmers cried out in pain and were suddenly silenced.

Can’t wait for him to start messing with timezones next.

sachamato , to fediverse in How do we get "normies" to adopt the Fediverse?

A sweet interface like Sync for Lemmy and respectful content and engagement are the key to me.

Shimitar , to selfhosted in Germany, dyndns and port forwarding

You get a real IP? Its been cg-nat with every provider for the last many many years in Italy.

I got a cheap vps and just run some reverse tunnels to map ports from it to my home server going trough my cg-nat.

“Hands aren’t toys” is my rule of thumb for cats and mouthy dogs, but dang is it tempting

Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In ,

Ha ha. No toy thumb rule.

When your son is sad, get them a game with blood and violins.

ravhall , to selfhosted in Web printing

Just have a web form post a printable file and have the back end use lpr? Are you able to write code for PHP or nodejs?

Shimitar OP ,

Yes, sure I am… Would probably prefer a bash CGI because I like challenges :)

(Author and such would be managed by my reverse proxy)

But I would prefer something already baked if it exist

coolusername , to asklemmy in Why does it seem the world is all of a sudden concerned about sexual orientation? Especially America. Did I miss how far we came as a society to see it take a 40 year step backwards?

CIA and maybe collaboration with Mossad. Pink and rainbow washing is used to justify regime change operations abroad.

This is quite the disturbing news

Cataphract , to asklemmy in What game, book, TV show, and/or movie do you wish you could experience for the first time again?

Wheel of Time book series.

Got way into it when I was younger, got them as soon as new ones came out but after re-reading the first like 10 books multiple times and the repetitive descriptions, the long journey just killed it for me before it got more wrapped up in the later books. Still love it when I go to try and reread it, just get flustered out around book 7. Would love to just be able to do the entire run now with that same enthusiasm I had before, like finding a great show with lots of seasons to binge.

StrandedInTimeFall , to games in Is Elder Scrolls 6 doomed to fail? I can't see how it will work

I just don’t think Bethesda has it in them anymore. Except for Id and formerly Tango Gameworks, Bethesda proper and a lot of the other studios it had, have just been missing the mark. Like a lot of big studios, they get big, start to regurgitate what they’ve already done, and then fail to capture people’s attention after a while.

Why do you think Valve’s employees haven’t pushed for many new games? Anticipation got too high and they didn’t want to compete with the legacy of Half-life or Portal. Half-life Alyx came out and it was decent, but it didn’t move the story forward that much. It was mostly about doing a good VR game. Now, they have Deadlock coming out and it has nothing to do with any of it’s previous games.

At a certain point, it’s like reading a book from an author that’s run out of ideas or hearing a song from an artist that doesn’t have anything relevant to say anymore. It’s time to move on and make room for someone wants to do something new. Only problem, these big ass companies are now mostly about making money and not about making games. They will ride whatever wave they can until they crash and burn.

ada , to asklemmy in Can anyone name some mysteries in stories where the answer ended up delivering and was better than the mystery itself?
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The Sixth Sense. I didn’t predict the twist because I didn’t know it had a twist, so when it dropped, it absolutely delivered.

Same with Memento, but less so, because I was actively trying to work out what was happening. The twist caught me by surprise, but I knew some sort of reveal was coming

lurch , to technology in What kind of messaging apps do you use?

I use MS Teams for work. We don’t have to use it, but it’s more comfortable to send a chat message when I’m late for a meeting, than to phone the front desk and tell them to relay it to all attendees. Also, you can send Chats to yourself and I do it for work related notes I want to make off work, i.e. a neews article I want to share with colleagues during working hours.

4shtonButcher , to technology in What kind of messaging apps do you use?

I’d love to use Signal exclusively and recommend it or move over group chats wherever possible. But some friends and family keep me on WhatsApp and messenger. IMHO using those less is better than using them a lot and having more apps is better than socially isolating yourself.
