So I have been on Mastodon and Threads for quite awhile. I’m on BlueSky now too. Threads is the most enjoyable of the three by far. I don’t see how marketing has to do with it in any way, but after spending some time on each, I prefer Threads. It’s the only one that I’ve found content I wanted to engage with.
With Mastodon, I feel like I still can’t get started. I’m not sure what to do.
On Mastodon, I used the search function to shotgun random topics that interest me, and then followed all the hashtags on the posts that came up.
Over time, I started replacing following hashtags with following my favorite users who I discovered through those hashtags.
Then I started discovering and following their favorite users through their boosts.
Now that my feed is pretty much where I want it I tend to click “hide boosts” on anyone new that I follow, to prevent their every random amusement from cluttering my feed.
The end result is fantastic, but it took awhile to get there.
It could be a bumpy road, but go for it. Remember that no matter what happens, someone else has probably been there before and has asked for help online
Then, you look at what most people are playing right now, and it’s Skyrim.
As a side note, Morrowind is also quite big still. /r/Morrowind has 178k members and is very active. Project Tamriel Rebuilt regularly getting updates. OpenMW getting more popular.
One time I commented that my favorite game was WoW, down voted -15 for no apparent reason.
I wouldn’t use that as evidence that you were bot-attacked. A lot of people don’t like WoW and are mad at it for disappointing them. coughSHADOWLANDScough
You can get Gentoo up and running pretty quickly by following the handbook. From memory it’s easy to miss one or two clear instructions because the styling of the handbook can add more eye-catching weight to the explanation than the actual commands. So be sure to re-read areas where things don’t seem to working out.
Gentoo also has a binary repo if you don’t plan to stray from whatever installation profile defaults you start off with.
I can’t confirm a simple server install of Gentoo is somehow more lean than any other distribution.
I’ve used gentoo-install with success previously although I don’t know how up to date it is.
