You are aware that draw.io is itself open source and self-hostable: github.com/jgraph/drawio ?

They added:

  1. None of the Work may be used in any form as part, or whole, of an integration, plugin or app that integrates with Atlassian’s Confluence or Jira products.

Amazing. I get there’s some atlassian bullshittery behind that.

CodeGameEat ,

Looks like their paid confluence extension was called a scam in a review and they really did not like that 😂 github.com/jgraph/drawio/discussions/4623

@solidgrue@lemmy.world avatar

Unless I misunderstand your question, draw.io can be downloaded as a standalone Linux application and run locally.

Likewise, the Xfig package should he available in most Linux repos. It’s old, but good enough for a quick sketch.

floofloof , (edited )

They’re looking for something open-source. Draw.io’s readme says:

License

The source code authored by us in this repo is licensed under a modified Apache v2 license. This project is not an open source project as a result.

I haven’t been through the license to see what its restrictions are, but there must be a reason they give this warning.

will_a113 ,

Of the changes made last week to the license, this one stands out:

  1. None of the Work may be used in any form as part, or whole, of an integration, plugin or app that integrates with Atlassian’s Confluence or Jira products.

That is a weird carve-out, so I’d guess the license revision (and technically the reason it’s no longer open source) somehow has to do with Atlassian or their plugin marketplace?

HK65 ,

I guess that’s how they make a lot of money, selling their own Confluence plugin.

draw .io is closed source.

If you are hosting for yourself, you can use something like Tailscale to access your server from outside.

I had this exact same thought but than I booted Windows. I get less frustrated because if use Linux I feel like I’m working with it and it is acceptable if there are mistakes. If I use Windows I feel like I’m working against it, and a big part of that is that a lot of issue aren’t there because they are bugs (of which there are probably as many as on Linux) but rather just bad/anti user design

Thing is, a well configured Linux system will just work, and continue to work for the foreseeable future. You have zero guarantee of this with Windows.

After being in tech for like 30 years, i'd say that every OS sucks, but the way they suck and the intensity of said sucking is very much not the same across them. Linux VERY MUCH has issues, yes, but most of the time they're in your power to diagnose and fix, in Windows the main troubleshooting advice has remained mostly the same across decades, the 3 R's, Reboot, Reinstall, Reformat, because many times you just don't know and CANNOT know what went wrong.

TommySoda , (edited ) to asklemmy in What is your take on youtubers looking at multiple cameras on their videos ?

It’s just the new trend. One person starts it and has a successful video, and then everyone else follows it regardless of whether or not that was the reason for success. But I’ll take it over constantly using jump cuts every 5 seconds. That shit has been obnoxious for years. Most of the things I watch on YouTube these days are educational stuff so I don’t see either of these things that often. The only time I’m okay with the multiple angles is if they use it as like a “tangent camera” for when you know they are going off script or just expressing their opinions on what they are talking about. You know, an actual reason for two cameras instead of just “oooo look at me.”

The YouTube trend that’s been pissing me off are the YouTubers that change the thumbnail and title an hour after it’s posted because it’s not getting enough views and then make a community post talking about how it’s the best video they ever made.

AnimalsDream , to science_memes in Deficiencies

One of the things that’s too often overlooked is that subtractions might do more to help than additions. If you’re taking a host of vitamins, herbal remedies, and strange supplements and still feeling like shit, it’s likely because all the medicine in the world won’t heal if you’re still taking poison.

Not to be that person, but I am fully convinced that eating animal products plays a decisive role in depression and other mood disorders. Not only is there science pointing in that direction, but it matches my own personal experience as well as what every other plant-based person I’ve known has experienced as well. Before the switch I was so far in a constant background noise of depression that I was ambivalent about whether I wanted to live or not.

I’ve tried a lot of things, with only ever small or temporary results at best. Going plant-based, within weeks of staying consistent with it, marked the first time in my life when I actually began to actively want to live (even in spite of our capitalist hellscape). That desire to live has endured since then to the point that it’s tempting to say I might be cured of depression.

Perhaps you had an imbalance of vitamin a. Plant based vitamin a (beta carotene) is safe and can’t really be overdosed. Plant based diets tend to have more vitamin e in them as well, and vitamin e sort of counteracts vitamin a.
