Pop!_OS This was a good idea for a new game I have a few ideas on what I would do if it were a new one.

dianyxx , to asklemmy in What is an achievement in life that you're proud of?

I've not been to jail or prison in my life. Someone at one time or another has ran afoul with the law and broken justice system. I on the other hand, haven't. Granted, there's things I know that I did that would've seen me at least serve a handful of years but I hadn't been charged and the statue of limitations have long fallen off so I can't be touched anyways.

All I've ever gotten in my life is just traffic violations that I had to pay for, that's it. But no prison time for me.

I mean, the only AAAA game, as called by Ubisofts CEO, was complete dogshit. So technically all AAAA games are bad :)

I think most of us have a good idea of the benefits and drawbacks of Linux/Windows/Apple.

I have a Windows machine for media production, because Linux doesn’t support all the software I need for media production. I use Linux for absolutely everything else, because it’s better for literally everything else. In truth, a MacBook Pro would be better for media production but they’re too expensive.

thejevans ,
@thejevans@lemmy.ml avatar

To be pedantic (but I think it matters): it’s the software companies that don’t support Linux, not the other way around.

wuphysics87 OP ,

More than pedantic. It’s truth reversed to conceal motives.

dianyxx , to asklemmy in What is your take on youtubers looking at multiple cameras on their videos ?

They're trying too hard to seem like they're filmmakers when all that they're doing is just doing the bare minimum possible for YouTube content.

It's about as bad as TikTok people thinking they're actors or singers with all of that lip-syncing they do.

OpenSUSE is the same thing with C as with Python and Go or Go and Go and Go and Go

Tippon , to linux in Is Linux As Good As We Think It Is?

Linux is obviously very good, but you are right, we give Linux a pass sometimes because we ‘build’ it. We tend to overlook its flaws because we want it to be better than the competition.

I’ve recently had an upgrade fail to the point of a reinstall, a folder that I can’t share between two users on the same laptop, and shutdown buttons on two computers that disappeared. If those problems happened on Windows, I’d be really annoyed, but because they happened on Linux, I just fixed them and carried on.

Kroxx , to linux in Is Linux As Good As We Think It Is?

We’ve been having this discussion in the group I game/ play TTRPGs with. Like 7 of us total all windows, me and another switched to Linux, a third is a computational scientist who is forced to work with redhat frequently, and a fourth member was thinking of switching. After me and member 2 switched, member 4 saw that we had problems (entirely discord for me, all games have honestly worked so far) and changed his mind about switching because he doesn’t want to deal with stuff not working OOTB.

I can’t fault people who want that, hell I do, Linux is well worth it to me but I will begrudgingly admit there are draw backs to Linux.

SkybreakerEngineer , to asklemmy in Do you have any OC's? Can you tell us about any?

I thought about getting some OC spray but decided it wouldn’t fit in my bike bag

CraigOhMyEggo OP ,

What’s OC spray?

BombOmOm ,
@BombOmOm@lemmy.world avatar

OC spray, aka ‘oleoresin capsicum spray’, aka pepper spray. People often get it for self defense against humans or bears. The bear version tends to be a much larger and stronger bottle.

@LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world avatar

I was like this. Saw a new rheumatologist who took my various symptoms seriously. Turns out I’m chronically deficient in vitamin D. Had to take weekly megadosea for 3 months and now I’m on a daily supplement of a lower dose. I also started hydroxychloroquine for whatever autoimmune disease I have (I’ll hopefully be getting a formal diagnosis on the 16th)

I feel so much better than I did. I actually have a life now and can go out and do things I enjoy.

Absolute life-changing treatment. I’ve been trying to get rheumatologists to take me seriously for 20 years.

RampantParanoia2365 ,

Did your regular bloodwork from your PC doc show a vitamin D deficiency?

LaunchesKayaks ,
@LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world avatar

Yep. Apparently my records for years showed it and nobody ever said anything to me. I’m looking into replacing a lot of my doctors because of it. I also keep a better eye on results on my own now.

fernlike3923 ,
@fernlike3923@sh.itjust.works avatar

In Turkiye, you can check your blood test results at home with E-nabız, which also shows any irregularities in your blood (as in marks values that are not in the regular range with red). Could there be something similar in your country?

TriflingToad ,

I don’t know what you mean by PC so I’m just assuming the doctor is sitting in the doctor room just playing doom 1993

meowMix2525 ,

PC stands for Primary Care physician.

werefreeatlast ,

My wife and I turned up low in vitamin D too. We’re on the megadoses. She is, I’m doing good since it’s still summer. I’m going back to megadoses as soon as the sun stops showing up. Anyway I was just going to ask if your sleeping improved. My wife can’t sleep. I sleep like a baby, but I have a strong suspicion that I got some immunological problem going on because I have a permanent elbow pain and a reoccurring rib cage pain. Getting old…

meowMix2525 ,

I’m a big fan of magnesium citrate or chelated magnesium for more restful sleep, might be worth a shot. Not a doctor though.

MrShankles ,

“Magnesium Glycinate” is the one I choose for daily use. Magnesium Citrate is great at getting those Mg levels up initially; but for daily maintenance, I prefer the glycinate version. They kinda have their own use-cases imo

steel_nomad ,

Hydroxychloroquine is is also widely used against “covid” and its related symptoms. I wish we didn’t live in a world where billion dollar companies decide what is “healthy” and “safe and effective”, which really just means " lines their and their buddies wallets".

FourPacketsOfPeanuts , to casualuk in Are there any magazines in the UK worth reading?

suggestions because i think they’re well written, no political inclination intended - always read a broad range of opinions

  • The Economist (I find the whole thing a bit too much, too niche, but for core articles it’s very well written and sourced)
  • Readers Digest - fantastic variety of short human-based stories
  • National Geographic - same
  • Spectator - for a certain point of view
  • Guardian Weekly - for a certain point of view
