numbermess , to science_memes in My Kidney

My doctor usually prescribes Oxycodone when I have a stone/stones, but I'm just not an opiate guy. It makes me feel more sweaty and nauseous and despair. There is a prescription NSAID called Ketorlac that works much better for this kind of thing in my opinion. One of the effects of long term use is kidney damage, so you need to take enough but not too much for too long. FYI if you're looking for something to think about next time you get one.

I also found a wireless TENS unit called a Hollywog that just sticks to your back. It's a little plate and doesn't have any external wires. It hangs on by the electrode pads and you control it with a phone app over Bluetooth. This thing is great to use while your back is winding and wringing and you are stuck in a reloading agony loop. It kind of helps make it possible to focus on something for a minute without being distracted by the pain.

Just stop doomscrolling. Stop using lemmy, instagram, facebook, YouTube, tiktok… that shit fucks with your mental health more than my abusive ex. You’re always looking for the next dopamine hit, and when it comes, you need another one, you just can’t stop.

Get through a week of withdrawal. I’ve limit myself to 15 minutes of lemmy a day.

anonochronomus , to asklemmy in Have you ever smoked crack? What was it like?
@anonochronomus@hexbear.net avatar

Yeah. I’ve smoked tons of crack. I was on heroin for years before I tried it the first time. Within a month of smoking crack regularly my life was down the fucking tubes. It’s bad shit. Like really really bad shit. I would strongly recommend anyone reading this NEVER EVER try it.

SturgiesYrFase ,
@SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

Only thing I’ve done that fucked my life worse than crack was meth, and only by margins that could easily be a rounding error…

anonochronomus ,
@anonochronomus@hexbear.net avatar

Oh yeah. I could imagine. AFAIK, I only did meth once and it went poorly. Myself and a friend did a ton of MDMA the night before, the next day my buddy’s dealer texts him about having blue molly (there’s no such thing as blue molly). So we’re like lets-fucking-go, and we laid the whole gram out and started sniffing it up. We thought because we did so much the night before we would have huge tolerances. We did not, because it wasn’t MDMA. So we each did like half a gram of really shitty meth and blue food coloring. I was absolutely sure I was going to die for like an entire 24 hours.

SturgiesYrFase ,
@SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, it’s a motherfucker like that. Least it didn’t turn into a habit. That’s basically what happened to me, but then I wasn’t able to kick it for 2 years. Went From 280lbs to 160 in like 7 months. The thing that pulled me out was getting busted for committing a crime. And by that point I wanted out, but had no idea how to.

reksas , to piracy in If buying it isn't owning it...

DRM just slows down how many people pirate stuff by making it non-trivial. If piracy was extremely simple and completely without risk everyone would be doing it, which in turn would start to cause harmful effects that they justify all anti-piracy stuff. I dont think corporations see it that way though, they are likely just bunch of idiots that want to squeeze even more from us.

Not defending drms or generally any anti-piracy stuff, but humanity might not be quite ready for 100% free information. Hopefully it will eventually happen though. All of you are fighting for our freedom by not giving up on this.

Getting into Hyrule field for the first time in Ocarina of Time after being stuck in the forest for months or years. I got promptly destroyed by a pineapple.

I don’t remember much from my childhood, but that stuck with me.

Olgratin_Magmatoe , to linux in The Best way to switch to Linux is to NOT

Another option if you have a laptop and desktop is to test the waters slowly with the laptop, and keep your desktop as is. It’s what I did for a long while to get used to things on Linux.

If there is a critical problem with my Linux instalation on my laptop, it’s OK because all the real stuff I care about is still on the desktop. So I’m free to wipe the laptop at a moments notice. It’s the easiest way to learn in my experience.

isles , to linux_gaming in I did it finally, deleted win10 and installed Linux Mint

I’m psyched for you! I just researched hardware benchmarks and ordered a new AMD laptop and planned to run Linux. But I didn’t research well, because the Wifi card doesn’t have official drivers yet and I couldn’t be bothered to learn to edit, make from source, and load alternate drivers, so I retreated to Win10 for a little. I’ll try again later.
