I saw esp32 picture frames That fetch images via WiFi, but this would be a lot of DIY.

My personal favorite is using all already always on devices such as a wall mounted tablet and let them have a screensaver that rotates through is set of images that change regularly.

I used to wear white vinyl gloves when shoveling snow for a previous job and when we were done my hands were always wrinkled and soaking wet. Never bothered me much though. Wasn’t much I could do about it though because it was either sweaty hands or cold wet hands from snow getting my gloves wet.

If you are a mechanic, you can blow some air from the compressor into your gloves every 10 minutes.

numberfour002 , to retrogaming in What were your (now retro, but not at the time) gaming wow moments?

For me it was the original Resident Evil on the Playstation.

It was the first time I saw live-action digitized full-motion video on a gaming system. I know there were a lot of FMV (Full Motion Video) games in that era on other systems, but I didn’t own those other systems and I didn’t know anybody who did. So, it was all new to me once I played a Playstation.

Resident Evil was also the first time a video game had ever given me a jump scare. Early in the game a zombie doberman bursts through a window unexpectedly and I was hooked! I loved introducing my friends to the game, specifically so I could see their reaction when the dog shows up. So much fun.

Honestly seeing and hearing Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo was kind of wow, too. The graphics boost compared to the 8-bit systems I was used to was incredible. And the sound quality compared to the other 16-bit systems I’d played (Genesis and TG-16) was a leap above. The experience probably pales in comparison to modern games, but back then there was wow factor to it.

To young me, Street Fighter 2 Turbo was pretty wow as well. It was “literally” the same as the arcade version to child me. I could not believe the home version was so close to the real thing, because prior generations of game systems like the NES couldn’t come close to that level of performance.

HexagonSun OP ,

Yeah, playing Resident Evil for the first time was something incredibly atmospheric and special. I rented it from Blockbuster and knew straight away I had to buy it.

Before it released my friend and I used to speed-run the Resident Evil 2 demo which let you play as far as you could get into the full game, but with an 8 minute time limit.

You don’t.

You marinate until you reach your hand up and grip something and the hand juice runs down your forearm and into your armpit.

Sure, changing them helps, but you are going to fill the fresh ones shortly and the company doesn’t pay for them.

I wouldn’t say it’s a full on daily, but Bunsenlabs distros. It started out with Lithium because they had a non PAE build and I needed it for an old Pentium M laptop. I ended up really liking it. It’s debian at the end of the day so software support is plentiful. It’s super lightweight. It ran on the pentium m laptop (only 1 gb of ram) without much issue. It’s also baby’s first foray into window managers as it used openbox.

I ended up installing it on my other old laptop that has an 8th gen i7. I’ve been pretty happy with it as a result.

I.have 2 gripes but idk if it’s Bunsenlabs’s fault. I had an nvme ssd that refused to play ball with it, a Samsung PM991A nvme ssd. I couldnt work with it at all. Using gparted to format it was a no go as Gparted would just die. I know that line of ssds is problematic in the hackintosh community. Not surprised that it sucks here. Also trying to disable the lid close is impossible. Tried cli, can’t find my lid close sensor. It might be because it’s a x360 laptop so it’s a lot more complex lid detection wise.

Did other NVMe drives work? I wonder if it’s using an outdated NVMe driver… Was the kernel old?

NBA 2k Playgrounds - fun game for quick 30 min play sessions on the steam deck

Wrestling Empire - might not quite be patient since it’s not that old, but it kinda is in a way lol. Just a lot of fun and I love the role playing aspect of it

Rather than erase the memory and teachings of negativity, wouldn’t it be more beneficial for them to show how and why that thinking isn’t necessarily productive? Help us realize that while there are forces and consequences out of our control, we can accept that it’s part of our lives and take it in stride. Establish a dialogue and guidelines that can be passed along by others. Allow us to seek out a path for ourselves… [CARE BEAR STARE]

Why? Why not?

Currently running Debian Stable, but in the process of switching over to Alpine (yes, Alpine on the desktop). The lightweight, stripped-down feel calls to me and I like the little BSD-isms thrown in. musl might present problems down the road, but a lot can be bypassed by using flatpaks. Also using the change as incentive to try out Wayland and LabWC (bringing back that Openbox goodness). Kinda enjoying the process of piecing stuff together rather than trying to pare it down afterwards.

At the risk of sounding crazy… You might enjoy Linux From Scratch (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch (BLFS). Maybe not as a daily driver, but it’s a great way to learn how everything works, since (as the name suggests) you build everything from scratch. No package manager, just tarballs of source code. It really helps with getting an understanding of how everything works.

BLFS even includes instructions for building Xorg and all the major desktop environments.

Art direction in Comix Zone for Sega Genesis. After static cartoonish games it’s unbeliveable you can pull it off on the same hardware. The animated intro, the hand painting enemies as you go and these transitions between scenes were very impressive.

Playing Air Warrior II on Windows 95 in 1997. My dad and uncle lived in another state and we’d hop on AOL at a specified time and join a game. It was my first ever online game experience. I was 13. I hope kids today can still feel that total world-changing excitement that I did back then.

I shouldn’t talk because I dip in and out, but I do that because I like the possibilities. Like, what if someone comes up with a concept, but no one tries it, and it turns out to really work? Like, I like immutability as a concept, so I’ve tried Silverblue, Kinoite, and Bazzite. If nobody gave it a go, then the concept would die on the vine.

Also, I like seeing different ways of thinking about technology.

Booting up Mario Kart DS and seeing 3D on a portable game system. For years it was 2d portables, 3D consoles. But now both had 3D. My mind would have exploded if I ever saw the steam deck or switch.

southsamurai , to nostupidquestions in How to people that have to wear black nitrile gloves all day keep from having sweaty hands?
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

That’s the secret, you don’t. You just change them when you can and dry them as well as possible.

It isn’t just nitrile, or black gloves though. Latex, poly, and vinyl gloves will all have your hands sweaty in the same amount of time. Now, in the medical field where I used gloves all day, you’d be changing them often. But, you’d also likely be washing hands every glove change, and have water getting in the gloves during some care.

When I switched to home health, I’d wear them longer because you only have one patient at a time, so I didn’t always need to change until I left their home, or direct care was over. Sometimes, you do need to change them during care, but it isn’t every fifteen to twenty minutes like it is in facilities when you’re busy.

But damn, after a 12 hour shift in a nursing home, hands are all wrinkly and feel like they’ve been chewed on sometimes. Even if you’re drying perfectly after washing, you’ll still be sweaty as soon as they’re back on.

I’ve used nitrile gloves for hobby stuff at home too. Usually only for an hour or so ata time, but even with AC, they get sweaty and irritated for sure.

You gotta wash well, then dry well, then moisturize.
