I absolutely adore xmonad. You can do ANYTHING you dream up in it. Additionally, it helped make Haskell less intimidating for me.

I have high hopes for their Wayland port called Waymonad. But it’s a long way off.

Little known fact: xmonad is the only WM that has a formally-verified base.

I run an xmonad community here: infosec.pub/c/xmonad

Threads (1984) by Mick Jackson

Not sure who recommended it to me, but IMDB says its about “[t]he effects of a nuclear holocaust on the working class city of Sheffield, England and the eventual long-term effects of nuclear war on civilization.” Didn’t have a lot of motivation to seek it out, but it has great ratings. Top review says “Very few films have the ability to suck the life out of a viewer and leave them feeling drained and shaken in quite the same way that this does.” Yeah, so I’m not sure if I will ever be in the mood for that to be honest.

I’m very happy with my ASRock N100 (either m or DC). It has sufficient performance for my needs (proxmox with opnsense, jellyfin and various other services) while using very little power

plactagonic , to asklemmy in What's your favourite country and why?

It depends, each country has something to offer. I really like to go somewhere where you just don’t expect something/you have completely wrong picture about it. Just nice surprise every time you travel there. Also for travel it has to have the “I want to go there” factor, when I say to someone that USA is for me no go country because of this they usually don’t understand.

I would like to travel across the Europe, each country is interesting, even Russia (but visit Russia before Russia visits you and I just don’t want to go there now).

From Asia there are few interesting countries, Taiwan and South Korea.

On Africa I just don’t know, certainly I would like to go to Morocco, but some other countries there are on the list.

Australia and New Zealand are also high on the “I want to go there” index.

America’s - Canada, Mexico and Argentina

For living I just don’t know.

kambusha , to asklemmy in How to catch houseflies?

Toy salt shotgun. Start hunting.

Edit: just saw another comment recommended the one i used to have. Bug-a-salt. It was the only thing that worked when we had something like 200 flies in a tiny 3-bed apt.

Nomecks ,

I have a Bug A Salt Home and Garden edition and I love it. I’m in a dry climate though, so the salt doesn’t clump up. Mileage may vary if you’re in a humid place.

Is it me or is the Pixel 9 hype very low? I feel like nobody is expecting much from it

ByteMe ,
@ByteMe@lemmy.world avatar

Well, of course, google leaks everything months before so nobody cares now. Plus the google io was a big fiasco talking 2 hours about AI, completed skipped android 15 which is a pretty incremental release. As a result, everyone expects the same from this event too. Meaningless ai everywhere

Blaze OP ,

Thank you for your comment, didn’t even follow the Google IO

ByteMe , (edited )

I always watch it because of the android releases (phone, watch etc) but this year’s was such a big letdown. It ruined my day

smeg ,

I don’t think I’ve seen any hype for any new phone releases for a while. And that’s OK, the technology has matured a lot so there isn’t that much to get hyped about anymore. The foldable phones are pretty cool, hoping that they become affordable in the next decade!

Sabata11792 ,

I haven’t seen a foldable phone that doesn’t have an ugly crease in the screen after a while.

smeg ,

Well then I hope they sort that out in the next decade too

Shadow , to nostupidquestions in Why is DNS often joked about in the I.T. Industry?
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

100% of the internet depends on it, and 90% of technical people can’t be bothered to learn how it works and understand it. Partly because they only touch it once every 5 years. They get what they need done but don’t understand why it worked, so it ends up feeling like black magic to them.
