SuzyQ , to asklemmy in What's your most profound "small world" moment?

Not mine, but my dad’s that I was there to witness.

It was summer (90s) and we were all camping at a lake. My sister and I were playing with some kids while my dad was chatting up the other kids’ dad. Just as I was getting out of the water I hear the other dad exclaim “you remind me of a guy I used to know called [name]!” My dad laughs and says “I am [name].” Turns out they used to go to school together decades before.

It’s stuck with me all these years, and has somewhat been turned into an inside joke within our family.

ReeSilva , to asklemmy in How do you organise your music playlists?
@ReeSilva@bolha.forum avatar

tbh, I’m always “getting” ready to create a social network to share Playlists based on ActivityPub because sometimes I want Playlists from my friend but they all use Spotify and I use Tidal. Your post inspired me to start it, because now I know there is others with the same need. Anyone who wants to join me, please send me a DM :)

I’m gonna go the other way with this one. I got a reuben on a pumpernickel bagel last week and they put thousand island and cream cheese and wet ass saurkraut on it and it was a soggy fucking mess and it ruined my lunch. I may never go back to that bagel place.

Oof I’m sorry. A Reuben bagel can be one of the best, but yeah they put 3 wets on there, bad idea

DirigibleProtein , to asklemmy in What's your most profound "small world" moment?

My parents emigrated separately in the 1950s from a large city in Europe to Australia.

  • My mother didn’t know anyone in Australia and went to stay with her sister (who had previously immigrated) until she could find somewhere to live.
  • My father went to stay with his best friend (who had previously immigrated) until he could find somewhere to live.
  • Coincidence 1 That friend had been the best friend of my mother’s older brother back in their city of origin
  • Coincidence 2 My parents grew up around the corner from each other in their city of origin, within a few hundred metres of each other. They went to the same school, knew the same teachers, but had never met
  • Coincidence 3 My parent’s fathers worked at the same company and were friends at work, but didn’t socialise together outside of work

There were 3 ways my parents could have met each other, but they didn’t meet until they moved to the other side of the world, when they discovered that they had so much in common.

Moonguide , to asklemmy in How do you organise your music playlists?

Vibe, and purpose. I have a gym playlist full of metal, 90’s rap, and some bebop. I also have a playlist for rock, another for metal, a classical playlist, a medievalish playlist (think Danheim, Heilung, The HU, etc), and another for just jazz. I also have playlists for the decades spanning from the 50’s to the 90’s. Ended up doing playlists for whenever I’m feeling really good, and for whenever I’m down in the dumps, just in case.

The decades playlists really help with being handed the aux. Most people don’t do well going from Toto or Green Day to Messhuggah and Opeth, so, dividing a genre by decade is good. I know my grandma will not vibe with Polyphia, so I play her some latin music, classical, or jazz, and she’s fine with it.

This leads to many, many playlists, and there’s a lot of overlap, but I don’t really mind as long as I can make sure I have a playlist for any mood I might find myself in.

lal309 OP ,

How does this happen? This is my first EOS system. Ever since I finished up the setup and customization, I’ve not changed anything outside of updating it and using the system… I guess I’m just trying to understand the why

dinckelman ,

Run eos-welcome, and choose the options to update both Arch and Endeavour mirrors. Save the files when prompted. For Arch mirrors, either choose countries closest to you, or just sort by fastest in general

Not sure if get-iplayer is of any help here but for BBC it’s amazing (think you need a VPN outside the UK).

Moonguide , to asklemmy in What is the earliest memory that you have?

Visiting my grand-aunt’s farm. From my low vantage point, seeing as I was almost a small kid, I was assaulted by a waft of cow dung, and the goddamn mosquitoes were everywhere.

Knew from an early age country living wasn’t for me.
