wonderfulvoltaire , to games in Where do you find new games nowadays? (Both singleplayer + multiplayer)

Statistically speaking most people can find new games in their library they bought and never touched for years. It’s a genius marketing strategy on steam’s part.

rubikcuber , to casualuk in What's your little win for this weekend?
@rubikcuber@feddit.uk avatar

Back from a “holiday” to the Highlands. Lots of driving around between nice wee towns and incredible landscapes. But the real win is that I have just dossed around the house all weekend, and the car hasn’t moved since Friday. Of course, there’s next to no food on the house, but I feel chill af.

If you don’t want to go full Cloudflare you can mitigate DDOS using these kind of technique locally.

blog.nginx.org/…/mitigating-ddos-attacks-with-ngi…

Cloudflare will be a lot more effective in case of attack. But I don’t think most people need more than a few mitigation rules. If DDOS really come, there are very few things you could do to mitigate anyway.

ChexMax , to nostupidquestions in Is this normal for girls or just a extreme edge case? (Serious question)

As a teen I had little to no interest in penetration. Tampons didn’t feel good, so why would I assume something else would? I wasn’t really interested in penetration until I was interested in my partner specifically.

Once I (eventually) figured out pleasurable masturbation, I still stuck with external stuff mostly, and fingers in general. Eventually I got a job and a debit card and could privately online shop, but my little bag of toys continues to go mostly unused. Nothing beats my fingers.

I don’t know about other women, but for me masturbation is and always has been much more about what’s going on in my head, and then adding the pleasurable sensations to that, rather than experimenting with different sensations.

For a beginner I literally cannot imagine a cucumber. How many dicks are as thick as a grocery store cucumber? None I’ve seen in real life. Maybe in porn, but I can’t think of any. It would just hurt. Beginners would need something maybe the size of 2 female fingers. (Maybe a farmers market cucumber that’s skinnier?)

lilja , to piracy in Fallacies of Youtube
@lilja@lemmy.ml avatar

I watch a stupid amount of YouTube so I pay for YouTube Premium. I wish that meant I could have premium features like disabling shorts, disabling those annoying themed sections that keep popping up (right now it’s the olympic games), a search function that actually searches for what I want instead of shoving more suggested videos in my face, and changing every “not now” button into “don’t ever ask again”.

Despite the fact that I’m a voracious consumer of YoutTube videos and a long-time paying customer, I have to accept that I am not the target audience. They want passive users who endlessly watch whatever gets put in front of them so that they never leave the app. If there was a respectful alternative that worked well with iOS and AppleTV I’d gladly pay for that instead.

nfsm ,

I also pay for it and watch it on my android TV. And I completely agree with you. But for now it’s my main source of TV and I mainly follow channels I subscribe. I don’t listen to music on YT, i do follow some live music channels

antipiratgruppen ,

Have a look at SmartTube. You’ll have to transfer the apk to your AndroidTV and sideload it.

Krauerking ,

Yeah I have paid for YouTube Red since it was YouTube Red.

I’m pretty sure they don’t want want me anymore cause they have made my whole experience worse and trying to get more and more money and attention out of me.

I really should stop paying too but they are literally making it so there is no alternative and I hate paying on patreon but watching on YouTube with ads

stoy , to asklemmy in What are your favorite open-source games?

OpenRA and OpenTTD

verdigris ,

OpenTTD is fantastic. The graphics might give new players pause, but if you like building networks or logistical puzzles, or just like trains, it’s still one of the best in the genre.

Peasley , to linux in How was your experience using Linux in college?

I had no issues with compatibility, just made sure to save documents to older microsoft office formats in the hopes of avoiding issues.

I never had to use an exam browser or anything like that, I’d imagine you’d want to have a polite conversation with the instructor if that were to occur, perhaps they can make an exception or allow you to do it on a library computer

Collaboration was always over google docs, so there were never any problems working with others. My CS classes were all expected to be done in Linux VMs so that was sort of ideal. Other science/humanities classes were totally software-agnostic.

Vanth , to asklemmy in What Do You Use Your Personal Website For?
@Vanth@reddthat.com avatar

I used it as a way to share very limited interesting events with family and friends. Instead of posting to Facebook, I would post maybe a half dozen blog/photo updates a year. Those that asked and really wanted to know what I was up to could go look at it.

90% of my views came from some dude in Japan who thought I was beautiful. I’m no newb to the internet so the only photos of me were at a distance and while I was wearing hats and sunglasses. I had no identifying information on there, but didn’t trust all my friends and family not to put something in the comments. So I pulled it down.

BlueAitoKan77, I’m sure you were beautiful too but no thank you. (Not their actual handle, obfuscated some for their privacy)

lemuria ,

That’s crazy. 90% of views from a single person. How often does this happen usually?

Vanth ,
@Vanth@reddthat.com avatar

It was just a website meant for friends and families so view count was always going to be super low. He would view each post several times and comment on almost all of them multiple times over the course of months, so I could tell he was going back to my site again and again.

I’ve never had that happen before or since, but nor have I tried!

Omega_Jimes , to linux in How was your experience using Linux in college?

I’m doing a CIS degree right now, and I did 99% of my first year on fedora. I did need a full windows install because some exams took place using a lock down software.

Honestly, the hardest part was remembering to boot into windows the day before so it could update and stabilize for the exam the next day

Yes. The last six months of my life (time, stress, and thousands of dollars) taking in two wildly ungrateful and disrespectful people after they were evicted from their apartment. Well they’re now being removed from yet another place (my house) at the end of the month, willingly, or by escort from the sheriff.

Never again.
