I think in addition to the other points on this page, the thing that keeps coming to me is because I think deep down inside, Biden knows where the fault is.
The Supreme Court’s primary role is to decipher existing laws, existing precedent, and figure out how it should be interpreted in a different era. Yes, I know due to how politicalized everything is, sometimes questionable outcomes come from the Supreme Court. But at the core, their job is to interpret existing law and precedent.
Congress’ role is to actually pass new laws for a new era. It can be argued, they’ve done a terrible job at that because they’re busy trying to appease their base. Because they’re so divided, very little acts, with any substance, are being passed at the federal level.
Expanding the court might result in the outcome you want today, it may not result in the outcome you want tomorrow.
But expanding the court also continues to give Congress a way out of making tricky compromises and laws, so they can continue fundraising on outrage, and yet do very little about things by blaming the other side.
It sucks to type that because I’m all for helping young adults get higher education. But I do agree with the court, it can’t be at the expense of executive orders because then we’ll be on a crazy hamster wheel with every president. Congress needs to do their dang job and create a college bill that everyone dislikes and likes.
The fediverse is not build for messaging. It is an inherently public model of everything. "Private" messaging is possible, but more often referred to as "direct" messaging, because every server admin can read your texts, as activity pub (the foundation the fediverse is based on) currently has no capability for end to end encryption.
Matrix is propably what you are searching for, as the other commenters pointed out. Alternatively may XMPP, but from what I've observed Matrix is a lot more active atm
Very s basic question…what do these icons mean? Also is there any way to “hide” a post so it doesn’t show in your feed again? Besides blocking the user?
From what I’ve heard from NixOS users, your intuition seems right. When you learn NixOS, you learn NixOS rather than Linux. The question is, what your goals are. If you want to get a job as a Linux sysadmin, you’d probably be better off using a more common distro. But if you just want to use Linux privately, dive into whatever seems most exciting to you or fulfills your needs the best.
When you learn NixOS, you learn NixOS rather than Linux.
That is exactly what I am talking about. You seem to have understood me the most. NixOS could be the unequivocally best distro ever. However, that does not change the fact that a big portion of your knowledge acquisition and experience gained from your time on NixOS, will be for NixOS alone.
I am obviously not putting the two on the same line, but mac shares a lot of terminal syntax and programs with Linux. They still remain vastly different. So, this is exactly what concerns me with the growth that I seek in the Linux ecosystem.
I don’t mean to sound crass here, but the best answer I can give you is, “because I want to”. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that I will pursue Linux professionally as a job. But who knows? I wouldn’t out-rule that.
It’s something that I am passionate about and enjoy using. Therefore, I will naturally want to grow my knowledge in.
Not crass at all. I would suggest that you follow your gut instinct. If NixOS excites you, go for it. If you want to understand the intricacies of Linux itself, look into Linux From Scratch. If you want to understand how “regular” distros work (and what sets them apart from each other) hop around between your usual suspects until you’ve scratched that itch long enough. Want to form your own opinion around init systems? Use a distro that supports Runit, s6 or OpenRC besides systemd.
I don’t think anyone else can tell you what you should do in this situation.
Audio Technica m50x with Bluetooth. I bought them for tracking when recording guitar or just jamming music. They have a flat response so it doesn’t add lows or highs or scoop mids. The Bluetooth option works great with pop os and is easy to switch between headphones mode (stereo audio) or headset (mono sound +mic) mode. Never worked on win10 for some reason.
Same here. Great headphones. Stock pads will start to fall apart after about a year and a half depending on how sweaty you are but you can get sheepskin replacements that will last much longer after that. Also adding a ModMic works nicely with these as well.
I was in the middle of switching over to Lemmy. Honestly I’m really enjoying it so far.
I tried to use the official reddit app and it was horrible. So I’m trying out Lemmy. The look and feel on Lemmy mobile app (Jerboa) is so similar to Reddit is Fun.
So at the moment my “workflow” is to completely stop accessing Reddit via mobile apps. I’ll still use Reddit via Google Searches because it remains important for finding key information.
I’m content playing with Lemmy as my main mobile “app”.
Just got my push notification from Sync. "It's been a hell of a ride."
It actually hurt my soul a little to hit that uninstall button. Maybe I'll try the Lemmy version when LJ makes it public. Don't know. Kind of liking the alternatives purely because it feels like a fresh start without the reddit baggage.
I was up-to-date on everything and knew 3rd party apps were shutting down, but it still felt like it wasn't going to happen. One of those 'oh surely they won't let it get that far' moments, but nope. Poof. All gone.
When this saga began, I didn’t think I’d be struggling with such a sense of disconnect with the loss of an app of all things. However, I do feel that Christian’s eulogy for Apollo helped, a gentle reminder to “smile because it happened”. Here’s to moving on.
