EleventhHour OP , to insanepeoplefacebook in I wondered what happened to the sovcit P. Barnes tazed all those years ago
@EleventhHour@lemmy.world avatar

If I were to try to decode this, he was probably released from Pierce County, WA lockup at 8AM on 6/24, immediately placed under arrest by them at that time on another warrant, and then picked up by Kootenai County, ID sheriffs who placed him under arrest at 3:22PM, and then drove him back to Kootenai County Jail.

His bail is well over $250k, lol

My wife and I love white Russians. Lately we’ve been making our own coffee syrup, Havana 7 year rum and 10% cream. It’s also very good.

Squorlple , to fediverse in UPDATE! Fewer than 20% of Lemmy Apps display posts accurately
@Squorlple@lemmy.world avatar

There are a lot of image/gif(?) posts that I haven’t been able to view either on the Memmy (Apple) app or in-browser with either Safari (Apple) or Google Chrome. I imagine it comes down to the file types as well as the lack of native hosting to standardize posts of different media types, but I’m not the techiest person to consult on that. One downside of the fediverse is the lack of standards for file hosting/conversion/displaying to ensure that all media can be accessed regardless of the browser/app (or, alternatively, the lack of an all-encompassing app for all devices [Jerboa sounds like the closest to this to me but it is not available for iOS yet]), as well as the self-funded nature of the instances commonly not having the budget to natively host multimedia content such as videos.

corgi , to mildlyinfuriating in I need new glasses. The only insurance-approved place I can shop online will cost $250 with my needs. I went to a "cheap" glasses website that doesn't accept insurance: $250. Yay, America.

If you have Costco membership, their optical department is pretty affordable. Frames are $50-80. Lenses another $80 or so, but depends on complexity and of you get transitions and whatnot.

TheRealKuni ,

And if you don’t have a membership, one costs $60. So frames lenses and membership could end up less than $250.

KoalaUnknown , (edited )

It’s the same for Sam’s Club. My eye doctor said glasses would be $800 AFTER insurance. I went to Sam’s Club and got two pairs for $200.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA ,
@HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world avatar

also, costco takes the shitty eye insurance so you may not be paying much on top of not paying much already. felt good that year.

thedirtyknapkin ,

from the op description they are in fact a very complicated seamless bifocal. likely some of the most expensive lenses to make. idk, to a certain extent op is looking for a modern luxury item and mad that it’s expensive. like they don’t NEED seamless bifocals, it’s just Better for their condition. they could spend less on thicker cheaper bifocals, they just wouldn’t be as nice.

like it sucks that most glasses are uncomfortable for them, but sadly this has simply resulted in them needing expensive glasses if they get this spec. it’s kind of like someone saying they need a car that’s fast, fuel efficient, rides great, looks cool, is safe, and has lots of storage but are confused why they can’t find a good deal on that.

Wirlocke , to asklemmy in To those who know about writing and such: Does a Mary Sue/Gary Stu NEVER fail? or their failings are to minimal to take account on them?

I think the worst thing about a Mary Sue is when their success comes trivially or randomly.

What usually helps me is making the obstacle more specific and diving into those specifics when they’re problem solving. You’ll find most things we broadly group into large lumps, like martial arts, swordfighting, researching, medicine, ect. often have an overwhelming amount of details that not only separates good from bad, but also have specific dynamics that change depending on circumstances.

If you want to make the successes feel earned, include enough detail about the problem that you can tell a story with the challenges involved. If your focus is swordfighting convey the kinds of techniques your protagonist know then put them up against opponents that can counter those techniques so they have to learn. If you focus is a doctor then instead of seeking out the Medicine Flower™, try conveying the roadmap to making medicine to the audience then make a story out of the process.

I feel like Breaking Bad is a good example of this. It depends a lot on actual chemistry and every chemistry advancement is a plot point. Mainly it’s figuring out how to procure the ingredients and equipment without leaving evidence to get caught from.

That seems depressing on her part. But I already assumed he would be a shitty father. With his behaviour online, I would assume he was a dead beat father.

Brkdncr , to asklemmy in What is an event that altered you in some way?

9/11. Everything was acceptable until then. Not great, but not horrible.

cashmaggot OP ,

Is this South Park (was this South Park!?) - or is this legit. Because 9/11 really did change everything. Between that and the shooters shortly after I was out. But tbh, Islamophobia raised through the roof at that time and I am not sure it ever went back down. We also lost any sense of security, seemingly for the rest of our lives. But I also think cheap consumer electronics really changed things on the whole. As I do not see anyone outside of the occasional "outdoorsperson" living particularly healthy lives. Even when they're living healthy lifestyles. Perhaps on account of some combination of higher population, but lesser third-spaces too. Eh!

atro_city ,

What do you mean by "acceptable". People accepted a lot more?

Brkdncr ,

As in it was fine. Presently everything is less than fine.
