Threads Self Migration Feature...
Do you think Threads (Meta’s Product) will add such a feature that allowed anyone to migrate their account to their own server? I have no belief that they’ll do, but I can only hope, as I love that feature on Fediverse platforms (mastodon comes to mind)....
Avoid Virpus VPS
Figured I would hopefully save others from the annoyances I’ve had with their service. I experienced daily high packet loss to both my VPS and their website, including the control panel (greater than 50%, typically). The control panel was broken and couldn’t tell me the status of my VPS. When I asked for a root cause and fix...

Are offline updates going to be the future?
I use PCLinuxOS as my primary Linux OS. They are a bit conservative to adapt new updates until they are sure of stability because of rolling nature. KDE is still at 5 there. Heard about Neon and wanted to try KDE 6. I find that they have adopted Windows style approach to updates where we need to reboot to apply the updates and...

piracy starter kit - old head getting back into it
I have a bunch of old bare hard drives with tons of content sitting on them, and I was thinking about setting up a new NAS / piracy Linux box, as a backend for Plex or similar....
Does anyone know a way to download the documents off scribd without paying?
Scribd has some pdfs I want to download but they charge 15 dollars a month to be able to download stuff and require you to view an ad for every few pages you read using the in-site viewer. Does anyone know a way to get past this and just download or read it without the subscription or ads?

How do I change the default login screen?
I have 2 screens attached to my EndeavourOS (KDE Wayland) PC. The secondary is HDMI the primary is Display Port. The boot menu and boot messages all appear on the primary display, but once the login appears the password entry defaults to the secondary. How do I force it to default to the primary?
Trying to remember an old Spider-Man game I played as a child... anyone can recognize it?
Hey folks, I’ve lurked on this community for a while now but haven’t really posted anything until today. Sorry if this isn’t really the right place to ask questions like this, but since this is a place for old games, I felt it’d be the most appropriate one…...
Thinkpad recs?
I like used Thinkpads. I bought a T430s off eBay and used it for several years. Recently I got a T570 from work. It had a screen issue, so I bought a new screen. That didn’t fix it so I bought a new mobo, but it has a loose drive connector so won’t boot. Just now I killed it for good by putting an nvme in a sata slot lol....
Were zx spectrum +2 keyboards disgusting to type on?
Out of curiosity, I’ve been watching a few restorations of those spectrums, and I’ve noticed the keyboards having a rather peculiar construction, judging by today’s standards. They have 2 springs, the small one, as far as I understand, presses the membrane layers together, and the larger one returns the key into neutral...

What's the best quality Linux Bluetooth audio experience for both me and the people I'm talking to?
My mini ITX motherboard doesn’t have as many USB ports as I’d like. I’ve also decided 2024 is the year I try to kill off all my USB micro devices and replace them with USB-C (sorry PS4 controller). So I’m going to go Bluetooth as much as it makes sense (because of the limited USB ports), and use devices that charge over...
Spring Potential Energy
Say a dissolvable spring is compressed with a bolt and nut that do not melt in a sulfuric acid solution. The spring has quite a bit of potential energy at this point since it is compressed. Assuming the spring dissolves perfectly (no breakage, just complete disintegration), what happens to the potential energy of the spring?

Capitalism is essentially alive
I think capitalism can be understood as a living entity, a being composed of billions of smaller beings (people), essentially cells. It evolves (legally and through market innovations), has an immune response (police), and grows and reproduces itself (imperialism). The cells are independent life in their own right, but they...
