From the article:

The BBC provided specific locations and dates to the IDF for each of the strikes highlighted in the article.
We asked if these locations had been struck by IDF forces and whether warnings had been given prior to these attacks.
In its response the IDF said it "cannot provide any further information regarding these specific locations".
It said that it had "called on civilians in Gaza to move south for their safety but will continue striking terrorist targets in all parts of Gaza".

Literal terrorism on the part of Israel here.

True, I don’t want someone to be able to “protest” in front of my front door and stop me going in. The purpose of protest is to be inconveniencing through as only allowing it in places where it can be ignored only serves to allow you to shout into the void

Lets just say I’ve personally observed maybe a half dozen people drinking from regular mugs like that over the years - and it’s not like I spend my life trying to see what mugs people are using. I simply meant that it’s not really news worthy.

PersnickityPenguin , to worldnews in Boy survives 100ft Grand Canyon fall after dodging tourist photo

Damn. I remember looking at a book at the Grand canyon rim souvenir shop that documented all the hundreds of people who have died by falling into the Grand canyon over the many decades. It’s kind of a sobering reality when you stand right on the edge and look down hundreds of feet and realize that it wouldn’t take much for your life to end right then and there.

Somewhere a photographer from 20 years ago has a photo of me standing right at the edge probably of this exact same cliff. I still can’t believe I did that as I have a severe fear of heights, lol.

Hope the kid gets better and gains a healthy fear of heights after this.

Holy shit! That’s the book! I haven’t seen that in years.

Shortstack ,

I remember reading that book. My takeaway from it was that if I go hiking in there, I’m taking a friend.

One of the major risk factors for dying out there was if you were a guy going out there by yourself. I’d bet they would all be alive today if they just had someone else there to tell them their idea was stupid, and sometimes you just need to say it out loud before you realize its dumb halfway through explaining it

codapine ,

I always have this harrowing thought every time I was there (I lived in AZ, it was a once-every-few-years sort of affair). reality is boring. it’s the boring shit that gets things done; while there are some exceptional people you should never meet your heroes. wouldn’t it be cool if instead you knew something that no one else does?

that “secret knowledge” is a part that allows conspiracy theory believers feel superior to non-believers. this is easier if believer is otherwise unremarkable or even miserable, stuck in some hole with no future, is a loner, can’t move and so on. it also helps if they are gullible and or can’t verify information they receive. if you have an hour to waste, watch this www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTfhYyTuT44

What are your counter points? Other than not wanting to be a staging ground for a potential NATO/Russian war?

NuPNuA ,

Do they think not being in NATO will save them if they’re between Russia and a NATO member?

TheGod ,

Sweden currently would be in a perfect selfish situation.

Norway and Finland are in. So sweden cannot be attacked by russia without NATO helping them unless russia only attacks islands. But Sweden has free choice to participate or ignore NATO being attacked.

Now Sweden has to help NATO wherever they are being attacked.

Hamartiogonic ,
@Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz avatar

Finland and Sweden have been cooperating in matters of defense for a long time. Now they both are NATO members, that united defense should be a credible deterrent to Russia. In Sweden was left out, that structure would have been weaker.

blueson , (edited )

I think most people who have switched sides, who were originally for/split, would today argue that it’s unlikely that Russia would stage another war in the coming years. Looking at how poorly they are performing in Ukraine.

So getting into NATO with the possibility that Erdogan’s demands will have an actual effect on the Swedish laws has not been deemed worth it right now.

I also doubt anybody reasonable would consider some of his demands to be achievable, Turkey in EU today?

GiuseppeAndTheYeti ,

That’s a pretty good assessment. Thanks for the insight.

blueson ,

Worth noting I am partly speaking from my own assessment as well. I want us to join NATO but I don’t find it to be an affair that is as urgent anymore and I’d preferably have it done without any greater effects on our justice system or other parts that Erdogan was unhappy about.

However, it’s worth noting that there are still a reasonable amount of swedes who are completely against NATO.

West was coping a few weeks ago with an internal conflict incited by Prigozhin, so that Putin can die and Russia stop. Even Greta Thunberg is now part of the psyop, its gotten so bad. Stop the cope, Russia won this war of attrition months ago.

Moreover, the list of wunderwaffen game changers that failed continues to grow:

  • Himars
  • Large numbers of apcs mwraps
