For my first post on Lemmy, I present the last post I made on Reddit 11 years ago. Thank you to everyone that has made the fediverse happen.

When they said Reddit has 2000 employees I was shocked. what could they possibly do onto a website that is basically run by users (and sysadmins) and that is basically feature-wise mature? I really can’t figure out 2000 people working every day on Reddit… on what? just for a quick comparison, the whole IAmA was run by a...
The moon rotates once per revolution around the Earth, but that’s not a coincidence. Somehow the rotation and revolution are connected to each other. Some force is keeping them the same. How exactly does that work?
The sheer number of videos taken “the wrong way round” (for my computer’s monitor) is mind-boggling. I get that some people watch videos on their phones, but is it really that many?
Took the weans a walk away up the back of The Three Towns in Ayrshire where they are installing these big bad boys.
For those of you here who think the prime directive is flawed, or could be adjusted....
What it says on the tin, really. I think this is going to be an issue when they get around to the smaller communities… It’s going to suck majorly, as most people’s default will remain with reddit for community discussion like this…
What are everyone’s recommendations on making android more private? Given Google’s recent behavior around tracking and the like, I’m not really comfortable with then having all of my data. I’ve even contemplated going to iOS, since apple doesn’t have a vested interest in me having less privacy… But I just don’t...
Thanks for building up this community here! I used to love reading it on reddit. I have a story from many years ago, I’m not a good storyteller but I’ll try!...
This story sort of fits here, just trying to add content....
I don’t know about you all, but I consider myself to belong in the GenX population. Most of my younger coworkers have maybe heard about Futurama but have never seen it. So many of the references and jokes relate to older pop culture. I am hoping some of the new episodes will be relatable to GenZ and beyond. What are your...
I have a few selfhosted services, but I’m slowly adding more. Currently, they’re all in subdomains like linkding.sekoia.example etc. However, that adds DNS records to fetch and means more setup. Is there some reason I shouldn’t put all my services under a single subdomain with paths (using a reverse proxy), like...
It looks like it’s time to “shop around”. What registrar are you guys using?
Looking to access the music from an Android app....

Curious if anyone is working on the codebase for Lemmy. I’m sure we all see a few places where it could use some love....
Discuss, I guess. 🙃
While we are figuring things out, please be nice to one another.

Greetings, self-hosting enthusiasts and welcome to the Selfhosted group on Lemmy! I am Fimeg, your tour guide through the labyrinth of digital change. As you’re likely aware, we’re witnessing a considerable transformation in the landscape of online communities, particularly around Reddit. So let’s indulge our inner tech...
Excuse my ignorance im just curious.
Thought I would start a thread and get some traction for this community. What are some of your favorite retro games? My favorite is Super Mario Bros 3.
I have been in love with mouse acceleration ever since I discovered RawAccel; it’s nice to be able to flick to quickly flick and have slow aim as a gradient....
i actually documented something for once, so i could reference it myself later. asking for some feedback on this, but it is quite long so i get it if you don’t read it all or care. figured some newbie might stumble upon this in the future and get something out of it....
I currently use Manjaro as my daily driver, but it is bloatware to be honest. I want to switch to more minimalist distro so i ended up thinking on Void. So any advice? How is package manager? Community? Softwares? Documentation?
