How long did you have to wait before retaking your drivers test?
Im pretty confident in driving abilities for taking the test this week with nearly two months of driving with someone else. My only real issue with taking my drivers test is that its my understanding sometimes DMVs have a secret everyone fails once policy, or some instructors do. I’m mainly wondering on average in the US low...

What makes you enjoy "generic" Youtubers?
I don’t want to offend anyone by the term “generic”, but by that term I mean the typical Youtubers who generate the same repetitive content over and over and over and over and over again and it’s usually content that is made with little effort and often with filler, such as unnecessary jokes. For obvious reasons I...
[Meta] Resolving the political memes argument
There have been quite a few comments and posts arguing about political memes and whether they belong here. I’m not exactly in any position of authority, but hopefully I can do something about this....
How to rename multiple *file extensions* to *nil/no file extension* at once in Windows?
In case of renaming multiple file extensions to another, they suggested to type this command in cmd promt or powershell: ren *.(current extension name) *.(new extension name)...
Alpine Linux (in lightweightness), but glibc?
Yes, I know so much of Alpine’s lightweightness comes from not using glibc....
Cost Benefit: Tailscale vs. Tailscale w/ Self-Hosted Headscale Instance vs. VPN Provider
Hello friends!...
Thats Enough Warm Now.
Its so hot that when I was outside smoking a ciggie, enough sweat dripped off my nose onto the smoke that when I took it out my mouth, the filter + paper stayed put resulting in a broken ciggie....
Thinclient sourcing in Germany
I want to upgrade my Pis to something more reliable and not SD-card based and refurbished thinclients/SFF workstations seem to be a viable route. Does anyone have a cheap source for used hardware like this in Germany? I feel like the usual esm-computer, green-IT etc. are a bit overpriced.
Lightweight paperless-ngx alternative?
As much as I adore paperless-ngx for its UX, I hate it for its tech-stack. Idling it already uses 300 MB RAM, when changing a few metadata fields on a document it easily spikes to 700 oder 800 MB. That’s insane for the work it actually does. Is there anything more lightweight? All I need is metadata management and a gallery...

Annotations for *Star Trek: Lower Decks* 4x01: “Twovix” (SPOILERS)
The title refers to the legendarily controversial VOY episode “Tuvix”, which is still so divisive in fandom today that discussions on it are tightly regulated, if not outright banned, in some fan forums....
[Hypothetical] What would have happened if the US Supreme Court had arbitrarily declared Donald J. Trump the winner of the 2020 US Presidential Election? Constitutional Crisis?
Assuming everything else was the same, but we branch off into a parallel universe where the US Supreme Court just ignore facts and arbitrarily decided by a 5-4 vote (assuming Roberts side with the 3 liberal justices, because that’s probably the most realistic scenario) that Donald J. Trump is the winner of the election. What...
Diaspora* - is it any good?
I just read up on it and it seems good, at least in theory. How does it compare to Lemmy, would you say?
Instance Assistant v1.2.5 released: You can now generate posts for Lemmy/Kbin, search for posts, and redirect posts from foreign instances
Hi everyone, I’m excited to announce one more release before I take a short break. I have some other stuff starting up, so I won’t be pushing out new features as fast, but I’ll still be around to manage the project. (more at the end)...

linking communities
I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I’m curious about something. I’ve seen there’s a big debate about multiple communities for similar content on different instances, and whether they should coalesce into a single community or remain as multiple communities. I also saw a post about linking sibling...
I got some malware yesterday, here are the sites I visited as a warning
Windows defender showed it as being a trojan- it appeared as a popup with a sports betting page popup anytime I opened my browser. I quarantined it and took care of it and did a few different scans with windows defender and malware bytes, all of which came back negative after the initial scan....
Non-US sci-fi recommendations?
