About the "darkspace" Theme
Is the darkspace theme something that comes packaged with Lemmy or something the server admins are throwing together? I love where it’s going but its in need of some love… there’s nothing to make the posts readable against the background....
Some good-faith questions of some seemingly apparent benefits of a potential Corporate Fediverse, and the detriments of defederating from a Corporate Fediverse. Could I get some answers?
Hey guys. I admittedly am mostly a layman to the Fediverse as a concept. So I am coming into this post with the knowledge that I don’t understand the technical intricacies of it....
Other than blue bubbles, why do you use iPhone?
Yes, I’m the one in the group DM that turns the bubbles green, I’m sorry....
Communities & posts not viewable from some instances
I registered with some smaller instances in case of server issues and defederation (beehaw) with lemmyworld. I noticed a community [email protected] that I follow from Lemmy.world is not viewable at all on lemm.ee or midwest.social for some reason. It does not come up in search and if I manually go to it’s empty. If I go to my...
[Help] New self-hosted instance not crawling communities
Just got my own instance up and running finally, but it doesn’t seem to be federating as expected....
Can't have anything these days
NOTICE: Community locked. Join us at [email protected])
TLDR: To promote unity and simplicity, we’re ‘merging’ with c/Android over at lemdro.id (a new, tech-focused Lemmy server!)...
Kubernetes and SSD Read Cache - Beautiful Silence
So I run a small Kubernetes cluster (k3s) backed by MariaDB hosted on a Synology NAS with only HDDs rather than etcd colocated on the control nodes. For resiliency purposes it’s been great, nodes are basically pure compute resources I can wipe out and recreate with ease and not worry about data loss. However, for over a year...
Why is refusal to pay bills or rent considered a civil matter, while refusal to pay a restautant bill considered criminal? What's the difference?
Both utility bills and restaurant bills are demands to satisfy a debt after the service have been rendered. And in cases of rental properties, it’s refusal to pay even before the service (the legal right to reside in the property) is rendered, since most leases require paying on the first of the month. Why shouldn’t they all...
Migrating Linux install from old SSD to new SSD with different filesystem
Hi all,...
Businesses, celebrities & influencers on Threads should operate their own instances, independent from Meta. Get enough of them to do this and Meta can't hold a monopoly.
This is good for us, and for businesses, influencers and celebrities....
Good dumb TV for my living room media center?
Just had my old dumb LG TV die after 9 years of working just dandy. I lack the desire to root around for a dead capacitor so I am currently in the market for an approximate replacement to act as the display for my Linux media center in my living room. I figure this is the right crowd for finding a non-invasive TV so my Linux...
Good sites/trackers for PSD templates/files?
Looking for places I can find PSD templates and files. Any help would be appreciated.
What did you see?: July 2023
Been go the cinema this month? Caught a movie on the telly? Dusted off an old VHS? Then tell us about it.

looking for Android and iOS devs for a great fediverse project
Working on an awesome Macro/Microblogging project to bring to the Fediverse. Very excited as it has been built based on hundreds of users feedback regarding Mastodon and the Fediverse. I know time is precious so not looking to suck up anyones time. I respect whatever bandwidth people have to give.
What courses or learning roadmap do you recommend to learn self-hosting basics?
Really enjoying lurking the last few days here. I have no coding experience, but like the idea of self-hosting a few things like Immich, Firefly III, PaperlessNGX, Nextcloud, and maybe Home Assistant. These are great tools even for non-tech people who care about privacy and functionality. I do run Plex off of a hard drive, and...
There's a TCG where you can actually TRADE cards? lol
Most games claim to be a TCG when in fact they are simply CCGs. I know that isn’t easy to create an infrastructure where to allow the exchange between players. The only TCGs I know are (unfortunately) NFT games of dubious quality.
Observation: Two types of Fediverse users
I just wanted to share my thoughts with you. I will appreciate hearing what you think....
Why are there no "adults only" places anymore?
A bit of a rant, pre-sorry but so sad and annoyed right now....
When/If repost bots come here we'll be able to tell easily as all they'll talk about will be poop, beans and spez.
As by that point I hope we’ll have better inside jokes and things to discuss

KDE freezes when going to sleep/suspending
For quite some time now, KDE has intermittently been unable to go to sleep. It will either go to a black screen with the cursor still showing, and the computer running, or it will show a half frozen sddm looking screen with the computer still running. The computer, in both cases, will be wholly unresponsive, and the only way to...
