I'm so frustrated rn.

I have been distro hopping for about 2 weeks now, there’s always something that doesn’t work. I thought I would stick with Debian and now I haven’t been able to make my printer work in it, I think I tried in another distro and it just worked out of the box, but there’s always something that’s broken in every distro....

Archlinux has the best wiki and community for every type of issue.

Oh, I’m sure we’re all great parents here. I applaud you for admitting a mistake and having the humility to ask for advice, both excellent parenting skills in my opinion.

I believe the answer is always culture. Once better videogames are discovered it’s likely that they will hardly go back to the bad ones (so that the problem of prohibitionism - which is only a temporary solution - can be solved).

The Distro Wars are good actually.?

If all the seemingly pointless discussions about which distro is better comes from attachment to a spesific distro and if a distro is just a way to interract with linux than all the discussion about witch distro is better etc. fundementally comes from a a place of love and appreciation for Linux as an OS....

PeerTube v6 is out with a new preview feature, private videos, video chapters, and more (nerdica.net) en-gb

PeerTube, the decentralized and open-source alternative to video broadcasting services such as YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitch, has launched its version 6. This comes after only two minor versions were released, with PeerTube 5.2 launched in June and PeerTube 5.1 in March....

The real question is: “What are the best PT instances?”.

danileonis ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Try to force Proton with different versions.

I’m actually using Ardour as my daily daw, very powerfull (check my profile if interested in libre music). Consider I made electronic music for many years with proprietary software.

Steam Machines were more of a collaborative product, not something that Valve really put effort or resources into like Steam Deck. That said, I think a console-PC sold and sponsored primarily by Valve could work.

(After that, I think the initial Steam Machines project - which was imo intelligent - could have some value.)

It’s pretty easy to install, what’s your commands?

danileonis ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s likely a missing library, probably something related to libxcb.

The Best PeerTube Frontends are Mastodon and Lemmy

The fascinating thing about PeerTube right now is that the frontend experience actually seems to be best on other services. This is primarily because discoverability between instances is fairly poor due to both federation mechanics and due to the nature of bootstrapping social. Because Lemmy and Mastodon feature their own human...

@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

This is gold. PeerTube experience is a mess right now, we totally need 2 or 3 big instances like here on Lemmy.

I still buy DVDs and Blurays but that’s another field, you’re talking about Netflix here.

@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

The Xbox one is good and it’s the standard layout on PC, so this is probably your pick.

I love my Steam Controller since is very customizable and a pretty unique hardware, but it may require config steps.

8bitdo stuff is usually good but pay attention on layout buttons.

Never tested a PS controller on PC but Steam should allow to play some game with the PS buttons on screen.

Actually no. I’m very sensitive to this theme but for what I know Steam is what makes gaming on Linux good. What do you use to play?

Problem with CD audio

Last month I upgraded my computer with new parts. I kept my old DVD drive that I mainly use to rip CDs. I have now however run into an issue that has stumped me. When I tried to rip some used CDs I bought the resulting FLACs had a terrible crackle, making them unlistenable. So I started looking into the issue and tried different...

@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Do you have tags on your tracks? Old FLAC versions have issues with tags, resulting in crackling. Try to use flatpaks whenever possibile.

Distro for experienced Linux user

Hi, I’m looking for a distro for my laptop. My first distro was Pop!_OS, then I switched to Fedora, then Arch for a year and 2 months ago I switched to Fedora Silverblue, because I wanted to try immutable distro that relies on containers and flatpaks to be usefull. Silverblue is great but not so much for me, its not flexible...

And that’s actually one of the reason to choose it, runit feels so smooth on old hardware!

danileonis ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, I was just remarking that for everyone interested, like an addendum to your post. :-D

danileonis ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes I also suggest Ardour over other DAWs. :-]

danileonis ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Dark breeze. I’m actively searching for icon alternatives but they are not well integrated with system-color-accent.

danileonis OP ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

It isn’t on the list. There are maybe old releases for legacy hardware?

danileonis OP ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

I would like to find it a purpose because I don’t like to just put everything in the bin, maybe I can learn somethin idk! :D

danileonis OP ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s a very old purchase, I was an ignorant Windows user at the time. :O

danileonis OP , (edited )
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Same? I think this hardware is so useless that don’t even worth it to build a custom firmware. :D

danileonis ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

They could open the code even more, that day real free gaming and Steam Machines will be a real thing.

danileonis OP ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Absolutely

My Lemmy account is 2yo (like you can see) and I can ensure you communities and user activities are improved so much. It all depends on quality content and from users these days.

Eternity is very good right now

And that’s a problem? :D

Well, seems logic to find us in a decentralized floss platform!

I was just looking for some datas but I’m happy to see this - for me unexpected - pop rensponse.

older laptop distro recommendarion

Recently I’ve gave up Windows for Linux and installed Ubuntu with KDE Plasma desktop on my pc and laptop from 2007. It’s an i7 Intel processor with 8gb ddr ram so I thought it would be fine, but it seems quite sluggish. What distro could I use that would be faster and still fully functional? Thanks for your help in advance.

danileonis ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

If you are an advanced user voidlinux is very good for laptops, in my experience without systemd you have faster boot timings.

I just probably need to buy a fire stick a software with a tv-like UI, where I can use a remote to visit streaming websites in an easiest way.

YouTube will now show a blank homepage if you don’t have watch history on (www.theverge.com)

YouTube is changing the homepage experience for users who have their watch history turned off. They will now see an almost blank homepage with just a search bar and buttons for Shorts, Subscriptions and Library. This is intended to make it clear that personalized recommendations rely on watch history data. The new design aims to...

Never heard. We shouldn’t worry about what some creators want to do, and we certainly shouldn’t sponsor yet another centralized platform.

danileonis OP ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

For the usual two pennies related to traffic? You make money on related third-party platforms, it’s pointless to focus on this as much as it’s useful to support a truly open platform.

danileonis OP ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m not against that service in particular, pluralism is good. I just think Fediverse / PeerTube belong to another level of civilization.

danileonis OP ,
@danileonis@lemmy.ml avatar

Some peaple here are too focused on the actual paradigm, instead of supporting new ones. We should also consider a few points:

  • You can keep your core business wherever you want but still having your second home at PeerTube, and maybe upload exclusive content to it (donations and Patreon-like services are still the main gain for many creators).
  • Most of the uploaders on YouTube are very little creators without gains, they could actually have a chance to differentiate theirself from the masses on a potential new platform.

Android PeerTube client that understands login with 2FA?

So I went down the list of PeerTube clients in F-Droid, and the only two that let me pick my instance / login are TubeLab and P2Play. They look nice but there’s a problem: they don’t understand login with 2FA, and I don’t really want to drop 2FA as I always use the extra security whenever it’s available....

PeerTube apps are quite disappointing at the moment, in my opinion.
