Assuming time travelers are real, but only influenced events so far back enough that a smartphone they lost in the past didn't survive for archeologists to find, how far back are we speaking?

And what were the dominant terrestrial species at said time? Would there even be any? I have zero idea of what’s the expected survival rate of an iPhone in the fossil record, but I like to imagine a giant sloth stepped on one once and we are none the wiser....

DNS hijacking

EDIT: So because of my $0 budget and the fact that my uptime is around 50% (PC, no additional servers) I ended up using NextDNS. For the time being it works (according to dnsleaktest), an added benefit was improved ad-blocking (100% in this tool). I now have plans for a proper router in the future with a Pi-hole. Thanks so much...

My dog and I got jumped by raccoons this morning. Now I have to pay at least $1500 to make sure I don't get rabies

My dog is fine, though, which is the most important thing to me. The raccoons scratched my arm kinda bad and my legs are covered in scratches. My doctor can’t be sure if the raccoons had saliva on their claws, and wants me to get rabies shots just in case. She sent me to an ER because she can’t get the shots in our area....

Where do you get your video content nowadays?

On the old site, there were a number of funny video communities with regular posts, for example /r/Unexpected, /r/PublicFreakout, or /r/WhatCouldGoWrong. While there are plenty of memes on Lemmy, we have relatively little video content. Those of you who used to frequent video subs, what have you replaced them with since coming...

Looking for Firefish documentation specially for the Antenna feature

I want to know how to use the Antenna feature of Firefish to customize my feed and see more relevant content based on the topics I like, how to follow lemmy communities, how to post on lemmy and vote posts/comments on lemmy from there. Is there a documentation where I can learn about that?

Llama2 70B (offline AI) Says stuff about the CPU scheduler Cores and ISA and I don't know how else to verify (is CPU core ISA determined by microcode and how to hack)

This is my favorite LLM so far. It is the largest I have managed to get working. It seems to be around 90-95% accurate when I test it on technical stuff where I know the answers. I do not know a way to verify the following. I have the standard CS books on operating systems, but this seems too specific and recent. The following...

Intel vPro/AMT Security Considerations

I’m new to the selfhosted/homelab space and eyeing a used Dell Optiplex Micro system to experiment with. The unit has an i5-8500T and appears to support Intel vPro/AMT for remote management and KVM. This is interesting to me as I may not want to have a monitor and peripherals permanently connected. After substantial searching,...
