Do you have a good recommendation for a little spray bottle?

walden ,

I got a huge kick out of this. Superb.

walden ,

I went “awww” until I read wikipedia about them and saw that they’re invasive. They’re native to South America, and have been introduced to other places around the world by fur traders.

walden ,

A reasonable tip ensures that someone will accept your order. Nobody is forced to go pick your food up.

I did a bunch of ride-a-longs with my buddy during COVID. Watching him decide which orders to accept was fascinating. There are lots of variables, and a reasonable tip was a requirement.

It basically boiled down to how much money per mile.

Some shady people will put a $20 at first, but then change it to $0 after the food is delivered – not based on bad or slow service, but because they are assholes. The $20 is to get a Dasher to accept the order quickly. Bait and switch.

walden ,

Punctuation is usually a prerequisite.

walden ,

Good luck with everything. You have a great attitude and I’m sure lots of employers will be knocking on your door soon.

walden ,

I was so nervous that it’d get sucked into the grate at the bottom. I’m happy to report that it didn’t.

walden ,

I’m subscribed to a number of beehaw communities, so it would be a loss for me.

walden ,

All of their ads that said “there’s more to prime!” are what planted the seed in my mind that I should cancel. I don’t use any of the “more” stuff, but we were paying for it anyway.

I don’t miss Prime at all. You still get free shipping as long as you let you wait until you have $35 of stuff in your cart.

walden ,

I haven’t noticed much of a difference in shipping time. If I order something online I’m not depending on it to arrive quickly.

walden ,

I don’t think the world admins really care if users transfer away. That’s just federation in action. Good stuff.

walden ,

Oh gotcha. I’d suppose that if a person is that concerned with Threads, they’re probably invested in the idea of Lemmy such that transferring to another instance is not out of the question. Someone who’s not interested in putting in the effort to transfer probably doesn’t feel strongly either way about Threads. That’s just an assumption on my part, of course.

walden ,

Will you use it for other stuff or just virtualization? Proxmox is designed for virtualization. It’s based on Debian and has a web GUI.

walden ,

I have Lenco turntable from 1969, making it roughly 54 years old.

walden ,

Your entire post and comment history is political. You should get a hobby.

walden ,

I’m not sure I follow your logic?

walden ,

Did you consider the fact that it’s useless content that probably breaks Rule #2 on that community?

Regarding your other hobbies, those posts don’t federate to my instance, so I’m sorry I didn’t see you have an interest in music and religion. If I may correct my initial statement from “Your entire” to “90% of”.

walden ,

What does that have to do with 5G?

walden ,

Gas cars contribute for sure, but so do electric cars, heating houses, manufacturing, you name it. If everyone switched to riding bicycles tomorrow it wouldn’t make a huge difference. I’d like to see something like that happen over time, sure, but in this case you’re wrong to accuse OP of causing climate change (assuming you’re one of the anti-car bunch that’s everywhere on Lemmy. Sorry if I’m wrong about that).

walden ,

I’m going to set up a cronjob to restart the Lemmy docker container every 6 hours. That seems to be around when stuff stops working usually.

walden ,

Higher octane resists detonation (knocking). It’s required for engines with high compression ratios. Turbocharged engines are susceptible to detonation, so they’ll often require higher octane fuel.

My car has a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. The manual says I can use standard, mid, or premium. The engine has a “knock sensor” which reduces power (basically by turning the turbo-charger down/off) if it senses detonation. If I use premium gas, the engine will use the turbo as much as possible, increasing gas mileage (according to the manual). The increased cost isn’t worth it to me.

walden ,

I agree, it always seemed selfish to me.

Lemmy.world Should Defederate with Threads

I think it’s pretty safe to say that the majority of us are here to avoid another corporate takeover of our preferred platforms. It would seem to me to be a tad irresponsible to allow Facebook into our space with open arms, allowing them to hoover up our data. I would love to keep using Lemmy.world, but will happily change...

v0.19.0 has a giant federation bug. My instance hasn’t updated, either.

Devices getting router IP as DNS

Hello all! I think I’m having a bit of trouble with my home network. It appears that all of my devices are using my Pi-hole DNS because I can see them all listed in the UI. But, when I check the devices, I can see both the Pi-hole IP address and the router’s. Pi-hole is listed first, so I’m assuming everything is using...

walden ,

Like the other poster said, this will be configured on your routers settings. You can configure more than one DNS address, the 2nd (etc.) being backups if the first one stops working.

walden ,

Dot (.) files are hidden files/folder. Config files, for the most part are located in the users home/.config folder. You should be spending very little time, if any, in that folder.

walden ,

Mutemath is one of my favorites. Every album is different. In recent years they got more electronic sounding and the band broke up a couple of years ago.

walden ,

The worst part is when I spend time replying to a question, later to realize the OP will never see it.

This may seem kind of stupid but I am kind of stupid, is there a list somewhere of phrases that are stupid or insensitive racially or gender biased?

I just got up from conversation with a couple of older black men, that I said “well I got to go back to work and start cracking the whip.” And it occurred to me then that it was probably a really insensitive stupid thing to say....

Imagine my disappointment when the story didn’t involve butter.

If I’m reading this coffee compass correctly, bitter can be caused by over extraction. The solution would be to extract less, which can be done by using more coffee.

There are lots of variables. The coffee itself, the grind (lots of fines?), the brewing method, etc.

I agree with others, though. If they like their coffee, let them enjoy it.

walden ,

gnoosic.com might work. You tell it artists you like, and it gives recommendations. The recommendations are based on what other people have input as their “artists I like”. So if someone says they like Bob Dylan and Mutemath, the next time someone says they like Bob Dylan, Gnoosic might recommend Mutemath.

walden ,

Maybe try the intro to Keller Williams - Freeker By the Speaker

walden ,

I recently had to disable ad blocking within Enhancer for YouTube, but uBlock Origin took over and it works great so far.

walden ,

Oh really? Yeah it worked for me.

Let's talk travel/insulated mugs.

So can we talk mugs? I tend to make a half liter (~17 oz) of coffee in a French Press in the morning. I run into the problem that I get about a half hour to 45 minutes (I’ve never timed it this number might be wildly off) in before the, “Crap! Its getting cold!” moment and feel like I have to accelerate my consumption to...

walden ,

I like Zojirushi but had the same “problem” as someone else where the coffee was too hot for too long.

If you have a mug that you like, try instead getting two smaller versions. The fuller the mug, the longer it stays hot. The standby mug would be nice and fresh when you get to it.

Messed up things a doctor did to you or someone you know? / Bad experiences with doctors

Today I spoke to a coworker who had bad experiences with doctors and was seeking recommendations for a new one, then other coworkers chimed in, and so I decided to ask you guys as well. Well, not for a doctor recommendation, but about your bad experienced with doctors?...

I'm so sick of dinky shitty devices with garbage rechargeable batteries

you always have to manage a million different cables for each one, and they all suck. why can’t we just use AAA batteries instead of these shitty lithium ones? it’s so fucking frustrating. where can I find gadgets that work while plugged in, or at least don’t need to be recharged every two fucking days?

walden ,

Sounds like the engineers listened to their bosses who told them to make it a subscription without making it a subscription.

walden ,

I see the plus in a circle symbol. What are you adding the track to? Some sort of list?

I don’t see a minus in that screenshot.

walden ,

Almost a month later… but I found this in my saved posts. I’ve listened to this album a few times and I really like it. Thanks again.

walden ,

It’s not possible to guess with certainty, but my guess is a failing ignition coil pack. The oil and battery lights are just because the engine was off.

walden ,

I have a bunch of Sonoff stuff in my house flashed with Tasmota. The flashing process isn’t for casuals, but the end result is great.

walden ,

My instance has daily threads. It’d be nice to distinguish between community bot and generic bot. I should see if there’s a request for that already.

What is something worth buying as a teen? please explain.

sense most online business are having black friday is it worth buying something or should i pass and try to save my money. im a teen i have around 200$ but i would like to limit myself to 100$ or less. im probably posting this in the wrong place but im not sure, i just want to make a smart choice when it comes to money....

walden ,

I like Fatip. A Gentile is probably my next razor purchase. The standard ones are a tad more aggressive than what I typically like.

walden ,

Shameless plug for the wiki associated with my instance (sub.wetshaving.social).

walden ,

Saving is great, but you should definitely reward yourself from time to time. “Retail therapy” as it’s called, which can of course quickly turn into buyer’s remorse.

I’d recommend a good pair of headphones priced around $50-75.

What VPN do you use and why?

If you are a pirate VPN is an essential tool. I am trying to ascertain the popularity of various VPNs in piracy community. In this excerise, I will list several Popular VPNs in the comment if you use one of them just upvote that comment and reply the reason. If you don’t find your VPN listed add a comment with just their name....

walden ,

The link above explains it better than I can, but without port forwarding it’ll still work, but it works better with an open port.
