It’s a trick to get you to click/swipe on it.

Is there more to this than “plants don’t see things”?

themeatbridge ,

You’ve already put more thought into it than anyone involved in the production.

Most likely they just didn’t want to pay two more women.

themeatbridge ,

Yes, throw your bodies in front of the danger to protect this millionaire from paying his bills.

themeatbridge ,

Which is why automakers and big oil have fought so hard against bringing down the cost of EVs.

themeatbridge ,

I don’t want a used Tesla, though.

themeatbridge ,

The problem is that they have been “becoming” affordable for 25 years, since the EV1.

themeatbridge ,

You can do the math yourself by taking your price per kwh and multiplying that by the battery capacity. The Tesla models range from 60 to 100 kwh, and my electricity is about 12 cents per kwh. So it costs between $7-12 to fully charge your car.

If you can afford an EV, that’s not an amount of money that changes your spending habits.

Flash floods happen because dry soil doesn’t absorb water very fast.

Here’s a video with a visual. www.youtube.com/watch?v=urQHsOmoKLg

Very little water ever leaves the earth via the atmosphere, so most of the water goes to the oceans or to other places.

Trump Campaign Sent Cease-and-Desist Letter to ProPublica Attempting to Stop Their Latest Exposé. It Didn’t Work. (www.mediaite.com)

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign and businesses have provided “Significant financial benefits” to nine of the witnesses in his criminal cases, ProPublica reported Monday morning - shrugging off a threatening cease-and-desist letter sent by Trump’s attorney....

What’s even funnier is that most people have even forgotten what she was trying to hide. Like, it was just some stupid photo of her house. People care so little about it that they forget even though the effect is named for her trying to hide it.

Like if we were to try to imagine a world where she didn’t try to have the image removed from the report, literally nobody would have ever cared. How many other famous houses are in random government reports about coastal erosion? It’s probably a lot, considering where rich people like to put their houses.

She failed so spectacularly at keeping it hidden that it will live on in infamy forever.

That’s the Streisand Effect.

themeatbridge ,

Man, that song has been popping up everywhere the last few days. That one acoustic version especially.

themeatbridge ,

He doesn’t even want people to believe him, because he wants people to know he sleeps with beautiful women. I don’t know if there’s a word for denying something you shouldn’t have done while simultaneously bragging about how cool you are for having done it. Maybe it should be called a drumpf.

themeatbridge ,

If that wasn’t tbe most boomer bullshit. “We met everyone’s needs, and people still weren’t happy.” Fuck outta here, like you couldn’t drop every person who ever lived naked on a beach with margaritas and nachos for them to spend eternity.

themeatbridge ,

Right, but you’ve forgotten the old laws of “Fuck you, poors.”

themeatbridge ,

Natural rubber (latex) is biodegradable, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t bad for the environment. The production and disposal of natural latex causes all sorts of problems unrelated to microplastics.

Synthetic rubber is chemically distinct from plastic, but still breaks down into microplastics.

Natural rubber tires are vulcanized, which makes the rubber more resilient, but also more damaging to the environment.

themeatbridge ,

What’s crazy is that we could do soooo much better, but it would mean rich people would make less money. Not no money, just less of it.

Nothing needs to be made of plastic. It’s cheap and convenient, which just means “profitable.” If we didn’t use plastics, we’d use something else and it would be less profitable.

I’m all for a good sandwich with delicious sauces, but how are you supposed to eat this? I would argue it’s not a sandwich once the bread is too soaked to pick up. It’s not even about getting your hands wet and gross, which is bad enough, but the real problem is the lower slice won’t have any structural integrity. Shits gonna fall apart and all into your lap.

Instead, I recommend using a knife and fork so you can chop it up like a salad, and it can complete the set as a “soup sandwich salad.”

themeatbridge ,

You might be thinking of Dinics.

themeatbridge ,

I have not had the Torta, but I’ve eaten the other two and they weren’t soaked in soup. I also like a good french dip, but there you dip the bread a little at a time.

themeatbridge ,

If I did that, my dog wouldn’t love me anymore.

themeatbridge ,

I don’t think my mental image of a chicken sandwich is the same as yours, but I do enjoy an open faced tuna melt, which I find is easier to eat with a knife and fork. But I don’t really consider that a sandwich, either. It’s more like chipped beef on toast, which I suppose you could argue is also a sandwich.

Or just prohibit corporate ownership of single family homes and townhouses. Let them build condos in walkable cities and leave the farmland alone.

themeatbridge ,

Corporate real estate investors own a lot of politicians, and there is no organization or superpac that looks out for literally everyone who isn’t rich. We don’t have a seat at the table.

themeatbridge ,

I lived through it, and even as kids we all agreed the N64 controller was weird and illogical. But we got used to it and it was not a hurdle or a detriment to the console. You could tell if people had played before if they held the center grip or the left grip.

themeatbridge ,

The nunchuck was sublime (when it worked), but the ergonomics of the wiimote were ridiculous. Pointing at the screen required an unnatural wrist angle that wasn’t sustainable for long gaming sessions, and trying to turn it horizontal to use as a standard controller was simply ass.

Does the form factor between 3.5" and 2.5" matter in a NAS server? (slrpnk.net)

Been finding some good deals on 2.5 disks lately, but have never bought one before. Have a couple of 3.5 disks on the other hand in my Unraid server. Wondering how much it matters wether I get a 2.5 or not? What form factor do you prefer/usually go for?

themeatbridge ,

Man, I remember when Zip Disks were a big deal and a GB was a lot of storage.

themeatbridge ,

I remember learning that 3.5" disks were still called “floppy” disks, despite being rigid plastic. My teacher took apart a disk and showed us how the inside was a film, but all that did was encourage us to take apart the disks and make desk toys out of the springs.

It is a classic Pop Psychology/Philosophy legend/trope, predating Community and the AI boom by a wide margin. It’s one of those examples people repeat, because it’s an effective demonstration, and it’s a memorable way to engage a bunch of hung-over first year college students. It opens several different conversations about the nature of the mind, the self, empathy, and projection.

It’s like the story of the engineering professor who gave a test with a series of instructions, with instruction 1 being “read all the instructions before you begin” followed by things like “draw a duck” or “stand up and sing Happy Birthday to yourself” and then instruction 100 being “Ignore instructions 2-99. Write your name st the top of the sheet and make no other marks on the paper.”

Like, it definitely happened, and somebody was the first to do it somewhere. But it’s been repeated so often, in so many different classes and environments that it’s not possible to know who did it first, nor does it matter.

themeatbridge ,

Probably, but I wouldn’t expect them to be able to spell half those words.

As a child of the 80s… yeah.

Two possibilities.

One, this is a bigot who has been emboldened to stop hiding their bigotry by the current political climate.

Two, this is a bigot who has always gotten away with smaller acts of bigotry, hiding behind the “historical context” excuses, and this is just the first time the stars aligned to finally get rigd of them.

themeatbridge ,

It’s also a pain in the ass for the user. Creating a barrier to entry decreases the likelihood that your customers will use the service. I don’t want to go find my phone to receive a text every time I want to log in to every single website.

The kitchen is dirty, and it’s on fire.

Yes, the kitchen being dirty is a problem. It probably even contributed to the fire, and makes putting out the fire even harder.

But you have to put out the fire before you can worry about anything else.

Ooh, I bet there’s some really yummy looking food inside that very boring looking tortilla.

5% down loans come with all sorts of strings attached, typically requiring private mortgage insurance that can add hundreds to your monthly payment. Add to that the increased interest on the additional principle, and the cost of a low-money-down mortgage can be two or three times as expensive.

Being poor ain’t cheap.

themeatbridge ,

My first home was 400k in 2019

That’s not a HCOL area, unless you’re talking about a 2 bed, 1 bath condo in a shitty school district.

And most states won’t give you $20k and 0% loans unless it’s a farm or VA loan.

Lastly, mortgage rates were 4% in 2019. Today, it’s 7.5%. Getting 0% over twenty years is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, but just the difference between rates then and rates now is almost $1,000 a month.

I’m not saying my retirement plan is a fantasy, but it was last seen hanging out with Bigfoot and a mermaid.

Murdoch was most recently married to former supermodel Jerry Hall. The couple divorced in 2022.

In March 2023, Murdoch proposed to Ann Lesley Smith but the engagement was called off two weeks later.

Bruv doesn’t waste a minute.

The crossover to end all crossovers, hopefully.

Are shrunken heads a rights violation?

If we consider post-mortem rights to matter morally, then something like necrophilia or defiling someone’s body after their death would be immoral even if they don’t experience it (obviously) and even if they don’t have any family or loved ones around to witness it or know that it happened. As an extension of themself,...

I’ve been contemplating getting a galaxy watch, but I was waiting for Samsung to get it right.

I can actually get one as part of my company healthplan. Which model do you have? I was leaning towards the Venu 3 over the Forerunner.

Thanks!

Almost all of our spiders are completely harmless. Even the black widow and brown recluse are not as dangerous as people think.

We spray for bugs because people don’t want house spiders in their house.
