If you do compile something, it is very easy to make it an installable package you could share. I’m not sure how the repos are managed

Mdou Moctar has some of the best guitar riffs out there right now, IMO

Is it worth the solar panels I'm getting? (lemmy.world)

I’m sorry for posting this here. There isn’t a solar panel instance, nor did I see anything for electricians. I know there’s been a lot of gripe with certain solar companies (solgen being in litigation, and others) but I didn’t hear much about freedom forever, since they’re new to Seattle area where I’m doing this....

superweeniehutjrs ,

Seems high. I paid about that much for 7kw panels, 6kw inverter, and 15kwh batteries. You aren’t getting the batteries, which are about $4k installed. Texas

I’ve had a couple jobs with wonderful overtime pay, in those cases my overtime was usually while traveling to places I’d rather not be. More cash to spend when I got home was great. Better than sitting in a hotel room doom scrolling

I agree when it comes to weather as well. 100 is too hot to be outside and 0 is way too cold to be outside. You don’t have to have decimal places on thermostats

I’m uninformed, why were things like snap and flatpak created?

I barely understand docker, but I’m starting to understand why it can be beneficial, although bloated.

I chose to set up grafana, mqtt, etc for an RV instead of home assistant. Little more lightweight for the raspberry pi 3 I used. Pulling together solar info, so we could see how long the AC would keep running on the road

Although my favorite KGLW albums are from 2019, there are great ones from 2020 onward as well.

I’m also liking Expert in a Dying Field by the Beths right now.

Since Google Play Music went away, I think it’s been harder to find new stuff I like. Recently, I’ve found better new stuff on my local public radio station.

Donuts? Like anyone who uses Lemmy could fit more than one on it 😆.

KiCAD for circuit boards FreeCAD to import those boards and do everything else

Mint is great. It also works well out of the box in virtual machines. I like the MATE versions for my older machines.

There is a major shift happening right now, and mint is slower than many to adopt changes. I’d argue that’s good for mint users, but it may be bad for you personally if you plan to learn about modern linux. Idgaf personally about X11 vs Wayland, because I just need to be able to use my programs.

Although I agree with the sentiment - I am curious how the system works with landlords having so many unoccupied units in some cities. Especially business/commercial/industrial landlords. It keeps rent artificially high, while reducing some types of overhead I would guess.

superweeniehutjrs ,

How does the business of being a landlord not work out to a “yes and” solution? You could make money on rent and sell at a later date. Is risk too high due to the cost of proper upkeep when a unit is occupied? Is it the cost of management?

Framework. They even have a factory seconds store, if you don’t need a perfect screen.

I hope the homeassistant guys already have this covered, because I didn’t use it 4 years ago to know

If you are concerned about things like PWAs like I was, try it out anyway. PWAs require a bit more setup, but are a lot more flexible in Firefox. For example, PWAs with http connections have a huge banner in Chrome, and just an icon in Firefox. Everything I’ve noticed is that firefox is just as snappy as Chrome

superweeniehutjrs ,

Any idea how to get links clicked in a PWA like Google Messages to open in a normal browser tab? I’ve tried nothing.

superweeniehutjrs ,

I mainly use them when I want something windowed but without tabs taking up space. Like monitoring my solar panels

I’m pretty close to switching to iPhone.

superweeniehutjrs ,

If a practically brand new flagship like the Pixel 6 has more bugs than an ancient iPhone XR, I don’t think base Android can survive much longer. Basic functionality like YouTube PiP and theming glitch out regularly. Not to mention extended features like bubbles in Messages being broken since day one. Sure, I can sideload on Android, but if that comes to iPhone…

I can’t seem to make $200 per year for a device work out with Android anymore. The pixel 6 should last 3 years in my opinion, but support for the 6 has been limited since the pixel 7 came out. Even at $900, I think the iPhone could prove to be a better deal with 6 years of support backed by a history of keeping such promises. USB-C, RCS, Sideloading are all I’ve been waiting for.

superweeniehutjrs ,

Ah yes the classic “why are you using a feature, it’s your fault for wanting it to work”. Thanks. So helpful.

superweeniehutjrs ,

I’m only a few episodes in, but so far it doesn’t feel like the same show. I don’t want any more of this. Maybe some day I’ll finish this season… maybe not.

Tailscale - vhat am I doing wrong?

[SOLVED] People of Lemmy. I’m trying (and failing) to get a friend onto my Tailnet. These are the steps: (1) I send them an invite. (2) They accept it. (3) I approve it. (4) They open the app and login. And … nothing. They don’t show up as connected on my admin panel and they can’t access any of my connected machines (IP...

superweeniehutjrs ,

I think I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago. Make sure they are adding the device to your tailnet, by default it adds the new machine to their own tailnet. I know I hit some kind of issue like that, at least.
