I hate it despite realizing what a good life I have because I was born here with a lucky set of circumstances (cis white male). But I love parts of it, like the Bay Area and Oakland and all the surrounding hiking spots. If we didn’t share it with lunatics I’d feel a lot better about it from a policy perspective.

some_guy ,

That’s the “what are you gonna do about it” look.

some_guy ,

Yeah, I have Simplenote on my devices so that my plain text notes are always synced. Movies and TV shows we intend to watch, stuff to get at the store, unlock codes for lockers in the mail room of our building, stuff to discuss with my therapist, records I wanna find and buy, etc. I was at a show last night (Santigold and she kicked ass) and was jotting reminders for myself between songs. Having an instant notes repository is awesome.

some_guy ,

That does it, I’m convinced! All the scientists were lying and the earth really is flat! Wait, what was this one? Oh, right. The earth is 5000 years old! That’s what I meant to say.

/s of course

US will remove Gaza aid pier due to weather and may not put it back, officials say (apnews.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — The pier built by the U.S. military to bring aid to Gaza is being removed due to weather to protect it, and the U.S. is considering not re-installing it unless aid begins flowing out into the population again, several U.S. officials said Friday....

some_guy ,

Why does this feel like it’s a flat-earth slide? I haven’t looked at any flat-earth propaganda, but I strongly suspect that it looks a lot like this.

That said, I’ll stick with my VMs regardless. I like simplicity.

some_guy ,

My mother (religious) once told me my tattoos make her sad. There are only two that are visible on a forearm (the third is under my shirt). I told her that they make me feel happy. She’s never brought it up again. But hers is less fervent, still rooted in the same origin.

some_guy ,

Especially when you can get them enlarged! C’mon fellas. Have fun with it.

Seriously though, I get that this could be terribly embarrassing if you have boobs as a man. I feel bad for kids in gym locker rooms getting teased.

some_guy ,

I imagine if my life was destroyed cause I like putting it in a particular spot with my partners. I’ve done what this man did a lot of times with no penalty (other than a partner who was mad that I was too quick the first time I got to). Funny, there’s a huge portion of the porn industry that caters to my taste. wtf. This man has been wronged. Give him a pension. He’s fucking earned that and more for his suffering.

some_guy ,

Lightning strikes and both candidates die in a horrible freak accident. Oh wait, you asked worst case…

some_guy ,

Now set them off all at once and give us a show.

some_guy ,

2004 the government was still lying and saying these didn’t exist.

some_guy ,

I don’t even understand what’s attempting to be said.

some_guy ,

Now play chopsticks like Tom Hanks in Big.

Oklahoma Prepares to Kill Another Man Who Says He’s Innocent (theintercept.com)

RICHARD ROJEM JR. had 20 minutes to address the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board. Wearing a maroon prison uniform, he raised his cuffed right hand and swore to tell the truth, then gave his pitch for why his life should be spared. It would take less than 90 seconds....

some_guy ,

I don’t know about this case, but judges exclude or forbid presentation of evidence for whatever reasons and it’s considered normal. A just system would demand that any and all exculpatory evidence must be heard to prevent wrongful convictions, but that’s not the system we have.

Gerrymandering to fuck is a thing. There was a story yesterday or the day before about the Mayor who was elected in the south and got blocked by the white city planners or whatever they’re called. Sure, courts ruled in his favor, but the article pointed out how Black residents hadn’t been aware that there was an election process for years because mayors kept being appointed without their input.

I’m not saying not to vote. I’m saying that has also been neutralized in places and that’s it’s far from what its idealized state would be.

some_guy ,

“The unfortunate reality is that the alternative is costly and chaotic legal proceedings in courtrooms across the country,” they said in a statement. “While we are confident that we would prevail in any future litigation given the profound misrepresentations about our families and the opioid crisis, we continue to believe that a swift negotiated agreement to provide billions of dollars for people and communities in need is the best way forward.”

We tried to buy our way out because we’re guilty af, but failed.

I agree with another poster that I’m not sure how I feel about this. If this results in them taking greater responsibility for the harm they’ve done, great. If this ends up letting them off easier, travesty.

some_guy ,

It’s almost as though the wants, needs, opinions, or desires of the people don’t matter. How about that.

Someone please jeer at this asshole when he next has a public appearance. Being bought by foreign interests is the worst kind of selling out.

some_guy ,

Playing the game like a badass. Also, for anyone who doesn’t know, you can contribute to order these great Ten Commandments posters (the law says they can come by donations, not via state funding).

Was reading Wikipedia about a string of serial murders last night. One of the victims was an 81 yo man on the way home from his work. This was in 1973. It’s not a new problem, it’s just worse than before.

some_guy ,

It’s why they got elected.

some_guy ,

Oh, I thought the headline meant that elected officials (state officials) could engage in corruption. I didn’t read it as Justices of SC could do so, only that they said it’s ok.

some_guy ,

When the character that’s “driving” keeps moving the wheel back and forth just a tiny bit at a time.

When two characters look at something off-camera in the distance and stare at different points in space (why didn’t the directory catch that?!).

Used to have a Linux homelab. Finally got Windows experience at a job for some years before moving to my current role at another org. Built a new homelab that’s organized around Windows Server because I’ve spent years managing it but never set it up from scratch. Learning small pitfalls of doing so. Just got VMs on the Win domain the other day; will be focusing on certificates shortly. It’s probably not that interesting to most, but it’s valuable learning for me. I’ll start trying to break in with Kali and similar tools once the infra is all setup.

some_guy ,

Who cares? Your being born adjacent to someone doesn’t matter.

some_guy ,

I care that a headline was wasted as a result.

some_guy ,

I wish that was part of the headline because that’s actually pretty great.

some_guy ,

I also stopped smoking weed because it would trigger the flashbacks.

I had this years ago after a series of bad trips (the common denominator turned out to be the presence of a certain person, then things got better). Anyway, hope you can get through to the other side.

some_guy ,

Just stop selling the kid ammo. Problem solved.

some_guy ,

Her name is Maggie Simpson. Her name is Maggie Simpson.

some_guy ,

Everyone is faking it to some degree.

Most valuable lesson I was ever forced to learn.

some_guy ,

Attacking a toddler for your hateful, bigoted ideas seems like a completely normal way to get people on your side. /s

Asshole. I’m against punitive incarceration. People who attack children due to bigotry should be punished twice as hard as those attacking people who can defend themselves. The lunacy is unreal. I think the threat to society is obvious.

some_guy ,

I once saw a cop car moving at the same speed as a shadow cast by a cloud. It looked like the cop was bringing darkness. The metaphor would hit me much harder now; this was in maybe 2000.

some_guy ,

Aww, I just heard about this the other day. The donkey was adopted by the elk and has a new family. Heartwarming.

WCCO asked the city whether Tirado’s settlement resulted in any changes to the city’s use of less-lethal rounds. A spokesperson declined to answer.

I’ll save the suspense: this means it didn’t change.

“What gun problem are you talking about? I only see a freedom problem, and that’s the best type of problem to have!”

Looks like they took the form down. If anyone has a new link, please post it. I’ve got some creative writing to share with the bigots in Utah.

Try fighting a civil war now, red states. See how far you get against contemporary weapons.

some_guy ,

I don’t clamor for war. Quite the opposite. I merely pointed out that the desire of accelerationists for civil war is poorly considered when faced with the reality of the USA’s contemporary armed forces in my own sarcastic way.

some_guy ,

It’s also a great path to getting people to do what you want. I was already an atheist when my father and I had a philosophical discussion regarding religion when I was an adolescent. He brought up this point early in the discussion. I only need to look around at all the bullshit laws getting passed that religious zealots vote for against their own interest to confirm that this is true.

The Southern Baptist Church just had their annual conference and decided that their position on Invitro Fertilization is against the procedure. How does that help anyone? It doesn’t.

Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? (old.lemmy.world)

Disclaimer: I am not trolling, I am an autistic person who doesn’t understand so many social nuances. Also I am from New Hampshire (97% white), so I just don’t have any close African-American friends that I am willing to risk asking such a loaded question.

some_guy ,

The Irish, for example, are no longer systematically persecuted in the USA en masse.

some_guy ,

I came to quote the same line while saying that I knew at that moment which side I was on. The man is almost never on the right side of issues. I’ve only seen it once, though I can’t recall the issue, and I was shocked at the time.

Definition of cruel and unusual in my book.
