This Beyblade game that was like an obstacle course on checkered platforms. I practiced a lot to beat the par times on each course.

I think of Google Docs now because the inconvenience of not being able to have word on my own system without a price caused me to use the free alternative.

The thing with your first statement is there’s so many times dealing with software when you are meant to just click ‘yes I’m sure’ that I’ve become desensitised to those warnings.

I also do programming and am fairly used to the terminal, and I still have a headache when thinking of going back to linux, because even when I want to do something as simple as watching netflix on firefox I had to go through a maze of troubleshooting via the terminal to get the correct packages installed. I can’t imagine what someone who isn’t tech savvy who tries to switch to linux would do.

The user experience on linux and its distributions just aren’t there for the everyday user, and until they are, windows will always be the preferable choice because it actually works. You don’t have to end up having a dispute with it on some arbitrary software download because it doesn’t quite like it, and have to wrangle through many software alternatives that aren’t always available or even anywhere near feature ready because they aren’t available on the platform.

I’ve done this once or twice myself, and at the moment of accepting the invite I’m absolutely down to do it, but when it gets to the day itself sometimes it’s way too hard or I didn’t anticipate how it fits in with other events.

For sure, I just give them the honest reason if I have to cancel.

While they managed to catch 4 people, out of a total of 132 people that doesn’t sound very good, and might have even made it harder for the police to catch these people. One of them was found to be innocent, what if more of them were?

I didn’t laugh at all reading them, and I did occasionally lose track of the plot, but I absolutely enjoyed the books for their creativity and writing. I found it flowed well, and it was like looking into how the author thinks and feels. As with all art though, the experience is very subjective.

Do you think potential candidates should be reimbursed in some form for taking assessments that are required by the employer in order to be considered for employment?

Also, should this be available for only job candidates who are not considered for the position?

Or should it go for every job candidate, even the ones that get the position?

Thanks for reading and being your most precious and sensual self ❤️.

I think they shouldn’t be there in the first place - what is education for? Why are we doing assessments at the education level if they aren’t actually valued or indicative of job performance?

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

Right, and some dumb people get jobs, sure. However, if the grades they get from school aren’t showing their knowledge instead of ignoring the qualification we should be working on improving it so it does.

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

Of course not, but also an assessment for each and every employer isn’t the way

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

At that point it sounds like a normal interview lol, which is good, that’s all that should be needed

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

Right, but if someone has been working for 30 years consistently do you really still need to assess them? Does an interview not suffice?

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

Why are they stopping you move your PC upstairs? This doesn’t make much sense. They allow you to use it downstairs?

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

There’s so many other issues too, such as the fact that old job posts don’t really get removed, employers/recruiters also spam multiple websites with their job posts and forget to check them, and some of the job descriptions don’t even match what you go and sign up for.

No salaries mentioned on lots of posts, multi stage interviews that somehow demand your free time during work hours, so good luck interviewing for other roles while you have a job. Take home assignments that take multiple hours sometimes, sacrificing a whole evening.

Recruiters that will ask for all your information again, despite having found your phone number from your CV, and once you go through that, tell you they have nothing for you and that they’ll be in touch.

Questions that mean nothing in an interview, including acronyms I haven’t used or even heard of outside of interviewing for other jobs, because my job doesn’t need or use them, we just do the work.

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

CV library gets me some calls from recruiters, be prepared for spam/WhatsApp scams though

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

I would disagree, those issues are valid too. Why does every website needs its own account, phone number etc? I get so many spam calls when I start looking for a job because of this. Just e-mail me. I’m not going to check your website every day for 2 weeks just to see if you get back to me.

The spam calls also put less value on actually answering my phone, because half the time it is a spam call. Why does every recruiter need to call? Why does every site need a number when I just need one answer, yes or no. I have my CV, I have my skills on my CV, and with one reply I can send you a very short list of what I’m looking for in 2 minutes, not every job needs a 30 minute phone conversation only for the recruiter to decide they have nothing for me.

And yes, there are magic words the interviewer wants to hear as well. As someone who sometimes struggles in higher pressure situations (which my field does not require at all btw), and also struggles with using the correct vocabulary or recalling random phrases and key words they want to hear, it’s frustrating to no end.

Honestly, I feel this should have all been streamlined by now, especially when I’ve already worked somewhere for years and my company has been satisfied with my performance - why is this not enough? Why can’t this be quantified somehow? An alternative which very few companies do is give me a technical/practical interview that’s actually like the job as advertised. Much easier for remote roles, but can be done in person too. Let me do the job, show you I can do the job, and then you decide to hire me based on that.

I do relate to your last point though, the amount of unrelated riddles or whatever get asked to ‘see how I think’ or something is ridiculous. Even when I get the answers right, the interviewer themselves don’t seem sure. I don’t get it.

Justin Roiland used his ‘Rick and Morty’ fame to pursue young fans, text messages show (www.nbcnews.com)

In the years following the 2013 debut of Adult Swim’s cartoon phenomenon “Rick and Morty,” its star and co-creator Justin Roiland became a titan of the animation and video game industry and a rock star of youth counterculture. His artistic style and caricatures became ubiquitous in cannabis culture, and his career expanded...

Well the other problem with capitalism is that when the wealth inevitably funnels to a few, those few can then pay scraps to politicians to keep getting richer. If you don’t co-operate, well they’ll just pay the other party instead. Good luck winning when guess what, they also own the news networks. They own the social media. If you think it can be magically solved by joining a party and doing your job properly then you really don’t grasp the reality of the whole situation.

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

That’s exactly what it is, then I’ve had people laugh at me when I compare it to slavery.

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

Nah, most will just say get a better job, you’re not working hard enough etc. Lots of people I speak to tend to frame it as a worker problem rather than a problem with the system. It’s also why lots of people seem to be anti strikes…

Can’t believe you’re being downvoted a lot. Any trans woman person on medication for long enough will just simply not have the muscle mass they had before. It’s basic science.

I mean if people were really that concerned, which I imagine they aren’t and just want to discriminate, you could just ensure they took medication for several years above a certain amount using blood tests. Not sure if they do currently, but they should probably do that for testosterone too.

Then it gets even weirder because sports aren’t defined by gender anymore but by hormones, but maybe that actually makes more sense? As that affects what muscle you can build?

@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

Suppose it’s magical and not scientific then

Looking for games with strong female leads for my daughter (even just to watch as I play). Came across this link, but they're a bit age-inappropriate. Any suggestions from the community? (gameranx.com)

Edit: Daughter is only 5 so she’s unlikely to play much but she watches me and as long as it’s not too violent, it should be fine

I mean she lasted 10 years on the diet, is the diet really to blame or is cholera to blame? Like I guess maybe she didn’t wash a few of them thoroughly enough and caught it? It does raise a lot of questions.

She definitely doesn’t look healthy in the later photos, but is that because she’s sick? There isn’t really enough information provided in the article other than her friends being concerned.

solivine ,
@solivine@sopuli.xyz avatar

Right sure, but making your body weaker isn’t the same as starving to death is it? People have bad diets all the time, but we don’t directly attribute those diets to their death, but the article here specifically says starved to death, but there isn’t much evidence of that shown.
