Wandersong, a game about not doing harm

I highly recommend this game to all those who want to have a more wholesome game and bemoan that so often we can just solve things by violence. In fact, that is one of the main ethical points of the protagonist: he doesn’t want to use violence. The problem is just, the world is ending and a hero is needed. And what is a hero...

I wish someone would do a NoClip-esque documentary on Sierra. That studio seems amazing and Roberta Williams was a crazy good game designer.

For the first time in my life, I have hit my deductible AND reached my out-of-pocket maximum. I now have three months of actual free healthcare, which is unheard of in the US. What should I get done?

Biologically male procedures only. EDIT: If the two people who downvoted this question could explain their reasoning, I would be super interested. No judgements. This is a safe space!

Do you have any persistent pain or discomfort when doing things? Get that checked out.

Another +1 for colonoscopy.

Also if there’s a family history of anything nasty, see if there’s a test for it my maybe? (E.g. heart attacks, get blood work done for cholesterol).

Get a full physical including blood work.

Unfortunately, dental is typically separate from health care in the US. (It’s stupid).

Mystery group paid influencers tens of thousands to push sexual smears about Harris (www.independent.co.uk)

Around the time Kamala Harris was taking over the reins of the Democratic presidential ticket, a mysterious group reportedly began a smear campaign against her, paying social media influencers tens of thousands of dollars to promote posts, according to reports....

The Readme was a bit light - what does it end up doing?

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m fairly certain something like that has already happened with Canadian Airlines. A person asked about bereavement travel and the AI chat bot claimed one thing and the company refused to honor it. IIRC, the court said the company had to abide by what the chatbot said.

I’m not seeing any replies that are super helpful for your question - so here’s what I do: throw a Linux desktop on a Raspberry Pi, or NUC and use the TV like monitor. Get a wireless keyboard/mouse combo and watch Plex through the appimage or just Firefox. Bonus, now any website that does video can be viewed on your big screen tv without dealing with any casting apps.

House GOP investigators accuse Biden of ‘impeachable conduct’ in long-awaited report (www.politico.com)

House Republican investigators accused President Joe Biden of engaging in “impeachable conduct” as part of a long-awaited report. It’s unlikely to change a reality the party has faced for months: They don’t have the votes to impeach him....

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

Man, the Republicans have done it again! This Biden fellow sounds like bad news, I don’t think I’ll be voting for him in November. /s

On a more serious note, was shitting on Biden their only strategy to get Trump reelected? 100% of their effort seems to have gone towards smearing Biden, but now that Kamala has entered the race they cannot pivot at all. (Not that I want them to pivot, please by all means, continue to beat a dead horse)

This is the correct answer. Private IPs are less concerning (on noes now someone knows a network in my homelab is 10.0.0.1/24!) - but absolutely change public IPs in logs.

If it’s necessary to reference external users/systems in multiple log files, I’ll change the names to user1, user2, server1, db2, etc

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar
  • Step 1: download deb
  • Step 2: open a terminal
  • Step 3: sudo dpkg -i /path/to/yourde.deb

Now whether or not all the packages are fubared at this point is unknown, but that’s how to install a deb file.

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

Does it have Discovery as a normal app store? You might be able to use that.

Honestly, give the terminal a shot - it’s not as complicated as you may think.

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

I would consider using your Synology for what it’s good at - storage.

My homelab has a Synology DS1618 and servers are Lenovo M90q systems. They have enough compute to get the job done, and use the Synology NFS mount for storage.

How long before companies start using this as an excuse for return to office?

Sure, you’ve been working here since before the pandemic, but maybe now you’re a North Korean spy! The only way to be sure is for you to come into the office and average 4 days a week.

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve been listening to the NoClip Crew cast podcast - they mostly talk about games they’ve been playing recently and after a few sessions you can really grok the types of games everyone on the pod enjoys. That mostly matches up with my play style, so it works nicely.

As an added bonus, they tend to highlight more independent/smaller game studios.

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

I wasn’t sure about the Steam Deck, but my god man - it truly is the best of all worlds.

  • [x] Playing games in bed with instant suspend/resume
  • [x] Easy emulation of old (and new) consoles
  • [x] Supports and excels at playing the vast majority of my old Steam games
  • [ ] Makes me snacks when I’m hungry.

I’ve played Chronotrigger on here, Skies of Arcadia, and Civ3. Lately I’ve been going through the Yakuza series for the first time.

I will say that I’m always a little tempted to get a console for the exclusive new titles, but I can never justify the price when I have such a big backlog of games already.

I’ll come out with an anti-recommendation: Don’t do GitLab.

They used to be quite good, but lately (as in the past two years or so) they’ve been putting things behind a licensing paywall.

Now if your company wants to pay for GitLab, then maybe consider it? But I’d probably look at some of the other options people have mentioned in this thread.

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, for the integrated CI/CD, give GitLab a shot - it saves on spinning up a Jenkins or ConcourseCI server.

CI/CD can be useful for triggering automation after merge requests are approved, building infrastructure from code, etc.

Fun fact, it doesn’t have to be an amendment - it can just be a normal law. The check on judiciary is if Congress and the President both say, " you got it wrong SCOTUS" and pass a law that specifically says things are different.

Now I’m basing that on my 9th grade civics knowledge which could be wrong… But I thought that’s why there were pushes for contraceptive laws post gutting of abortion rights. Basically telling the high court, this is what we’re doing now.

I’m legit curious (no that’s not quite right, terrinquisive? Horrifious?) how they’ll justify the exemption from term limits. My gut says it’ll be something about two terms max consecutively for 2028, then if that works, just throw out the term limits in 2030 or have martial law spring up.

I don’t know if it’s even possible anymore (heck it’s hard for me at 40), but try to put something in retirement funds. If your work as a 401k, try and contribute. If you leave the job, your money can then go to an IRA. How do you do that? Beats me - I have five or six requirement accounts, each topping out at around between $2-5k.

Also, brush your teeth and if you grind them in your sleep - get a dentist to fit you for a mouth guard.

Edit: wow, down votes for teeth health.

Edit edit: reading comprehension isn’t my strong suite.

I started a new position in my company in February 2020, just weeks before the lock down. Since then I’ve been almost entirely working from home, coming into the office maybe 10 days over the past 4 years.

During that time I’ve been promoted, gotten a separate pay raise to a new band, helped onboard the entire rest of my team (two of whom are completely remote).

I’ve done nothing but prove over and over again that I am excelling at my job remotely.

They are still pushing for me to come back to a “hybrid” 3 day a week schedule. Madness.

Three days per work week “on average” - but with no details over what timeframe that average is calculated.

Nexus mods want feedback from Linux / Steam Deck users on their new cross-platform app (www.gamingonlinux.com)

Yesterday, July 1st, they announced the Alpha release of this next-generation mod manager and their new Product Manager got in touch to mention they “would be really keen to get feedback from Linux users”. So this is your chance to ensure Linux (and Steam Deck) finally become a first-class citizen for game modding.

There should be a a button that you can press repeatedly to open up a boot menu - it can be the delete key, f2, etc.

Depending on how new your laptop is, you may need to disable something called “Secure Boot”. Keep in mind if your windows installation is encrypted with BitLocker or whatever else Windows is using these days. If it is encrypted, and you have secure boot enabled you may run into issues booting back into Windows - it will freak out that secure boot was disabled and require your encryption key.

At least, that’s what happened with my ROG Zephyrus M16 - I had to find my BitLocker key to boot into Windows and then decrypt it using the settings menu.

Also, if you want to be able to use both Windows and Linux - see if your laptop has an expansion port for a second hard drive. Windows historically has screwed over dual booted Linux grub with updates, and if you can just boot to a entirely different drive that won’t happen.

pezhore ,
@pezhore@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, I may catch flak but I wouldn’t be inclined to ditch windows altogether. Unless you literally only do web browsing on your laptop, there’s a high likelihood you may run into a few things that need troubleshooting to get working under Linux, and dual being able to switch back to Windows seamlessly is a huge help/comfort.

If you can find the model number or service tag, that would be a big help for troubleshooting.

There should be a sticker under your laptop with a bunch of tiny text, or if I recall correctly you can use System Information. See this article

I wish I had the chops to contribute to the project.

This game was easily one of my favorites to playthrough blind, then go back and do a 100% achievement run. “Choices matter” actually applies as main characters can just die, and their absence completely changes the outcome of the game.

It was a delight.

Edit: answering my own question - looks like the actual game files aren’t provided, so that should hopefully give the project a pass.
