He’s gone downhill ever since Donkey Kong took the spotlight back from him

Shitty, but also really clever in terms of marketing. “Helping people with colour blindness more easily distinguish between certain colours whose wavelengths overlap (but are distinct to those without colour blindness)” is accurate, but not as exciting (or as easily understandable) as “FIXES COLOUR BLINDNESS”.

Trump says he'll be a dictator only 'on day one' if elected (www.rte.ie)

Donald Trump has said that he will not become a dictator if he becomes US president again except “on day one”, after warnings from Democrats and some Republicans that the US was in danger of becoming an autocracy if he wins the 2024 election. Fuck, well at least he’s honest on this statement

otp ,

In Canada, we’ve seen a rise in Trump-like politics…

otp ,

Is PS2 emulation that accurate now?

otp ,

If there’s something stupid that Apple does, people will talk about using Windows or Android instead. You’re the weird one for getting angry about something that’s completely expected.

otp ,

The researchers found no evidence that any of the payments discouraged work or increased purchases of alcohol

I’d say that this is a pretty important finding. This is a common talking point for people against UBI, so finding evidence to the contrary is promising

otp ,

But what about the LGBT agenda that’s replacing math and reading education where children learn how to vote Democrat instead of learning how to read or multiply? /S

otp ,

I’m against the “kids these days” argument and I do try to be mindful of it.

That said, if there are statistics about increases in violent incidents (or other quantifiable data), I think those would be important to consider.

Sometimes jokes build off other jokes

What is the thing that resembles a camera shoe under the handset holder found on telephones with a handset used for? (lemmy.world)

I have noticed phones with a handset (like the one in the image) have a little cover that resembles something like a cold camera shoe under the bottom of the handset’s top speaker holder. Is there a use for it? It has a line bump in the middle, but it doesn’t go all the way from both sides, it leaves a gap. I have also seem...

otp ,

Ah, OP was just asking about the flash holder for landlines.

The average man doesn’t learn shit though, and that’s why we’re screwed

Can I get UberEats to stop recommending to "bundle" alcohol from a liquor store to your order?

It just annoys me because I’m not going to order it and I’m abstaining from alcohol. But there’s always some “special deals” being advertised by UberEats on alcohol, as well as meat, dairy and eggs. It’s like they’re really sleazy and desperate to hawk these products.

otp ,

Yes, you just have to remove it from my order. Unfortunately, I can’t give you access to my orders. So I guess you can’t remove those recommendations from my orders.

otp ,

I but maybe 1 new game a year. Maybe every two years.

I keep the other games I want on a list along with their ATL, and pick them up on sale when I’m feeling like spending

otp ,

Either that, or it’s really damn good!

otp ,

Yup, it’s really great that we’re all so familiar with it that we don’t even need to mention its name, which is…

otp ,

I love self-checkouts.

I also absolutely hate multi-line setups. There should be one line that feeds into all register. I don’t want to have to gamble on which register won’t get held up by something when I’m on my way out.

otp ,

They’re usually pretty simple. I became attached to them when I was living as a foreigner abroad and didn’t have much language skills. But I could understand the graphical prompts and numbers on a self-checkout machine!

otp ,

I’ve never had a failure, but one chain near me is a bit annoying with its “place your item in the bagged area” setting… I’d rather just put it in my cart directly, especially when I’m running out of room.

I find it easier to sort my items the way I like and to verify prices immediately, rather than having to watch the cashier and look at the machine, then ask the cashier to stop and remove/question something that scanned wrong…

And I’m surprised at how often I’ve had cashiers punch in the wrong produce code to something that’s more expensive than my item. Have they stopped training cashiers in hopes that they’ll make up for the 4011 phenomenon? They can’t be doing it on purpose, but it’s just weird to me.

otp ,

Yeah, there are some stores near me that don’t have a hand scanner, but at least don’t make you place items into the “bagged area” one by one. I can scan things and drop them into my bags/cart no problem. I really enjoy that experience.

otp ,

Well, I guess they’ll have to patch that bug first.

otp ,

I think the first ammendment is freedom of speech and the second ammendment is the right to shoot guns. So you have the right to be an asshole and get shot for it, and if you were wrongly shot, someone else can shoot the person who shot you. Perfect harmony!

While I’d normally support someone telling Disney to go fuck itself, it doesn’t mean much coming from Musk.

Was he ever rumoured to be a pedo or anything like that?

otp ,

DroidCam does this

otp ,

Really? I never paid for it. I guess it’s missing features unless you pay?

I used it for a good 2 years before I got a separate webcam

otp ,

Yeah, the uh, “trans characters” almost definitely would’ve been cut or modified.

You’d offend people who think that stuff shouldn’t be in video games, and you’d also offend people who think they’re poor “representation”.

Even Fassad could be a little questionable from a cultural-sensitivity perspective.

Not saying I think these should be cut, but that was likely Nintendo’s justification. Combined with the fact that the GBA was on its way out even when the Japanese version was released.

I have a sliver of hope for a release on the NSO expansion bundle, though.

otp ,

It seems counter-intuitive to make a racing game’s optimal strategy to lag behind the rest of the other racers

otp ,

Knocking opponents off the stage is close enough to lowering their HP to 0.

Being slower than everyone else is the opposite of being faster than everyone else. It does seem like it’s cheesing the system that’s supposed to balance things out.

Even items in Smash Bros has a skill component in getting to the item first. And “rubber band” mechanics like bonus final smashes (and items in general) can be turned off.

otp ,

Isn’t the competitive default online in Mario Kart to have items on?

otp ,

When the Smash meta revolves around playing sub-optimally until the other player trips, let me know.

otp ,

Is it because of wind resistance? The one in front cuts through the wind for everyone else?

otp ,

Interesting!

otp ,

I meant sub-optimally in terms of actually racing. Optimal speed would be getting the lowest time in the race. Bagging would be aiming to not get the fastest lap each time. I probably could’ve chosen a better word, my bad.

I’m not upset about anything. But isn’t this post about Nintendo removing/reducing bagging? So maybe some others are upset about that change. But it seems like a good thing to me.

otp ,

I think lagging behind for OP items is less interesting than a skill-based race.

In a party environment, those OP items are great. Bullet Bills help the new player spice up the friendly environment. But if the pro is lagging behind specifically to get OP items, I think that makes it less fun and less interesting.

She lost her entire family in an airstrike, but no one has told her yet (mondoweiss.net)

Ayah Sha’ban was among 14 of her martyred family members in Gaza City. She was presumed dead and wrapped in a white shroud, but a security guard at Al-Shifa’ noticed her breathing and saved her. She still doesn’t know about her family’s fate....

otp ,

I can’t help but wonder if he lied figuring he’d be able to keep the secret for the rest of her (or his) life, which could unfortunately come soon.

Like telling a dying person white lies to make them feel at peace…

EU court says public employees may be barred from wearing head scarf (www.reuters.com)

The top European Union court ruled on Tuesday that public authorities in member states can prohibit employees from wearing signs of religious belief, such as an Islamic head scarf, in the latest decision on an issue that has divided Europe for years....

otp ,

“We don’t care about your religion, but we DO care about requiring you to show your hair” seems like a silly stance to take…

otp ,

Sorry, what is the USSC?

otp ,

Depends on which part you’re having trouble digesting.

Personally, I feel pretty darn good after eating a pizza.

otp ,

I can understand the PS360 argument. It was probably the last generation where most games were actually playable off the disc without a bunch of patches.

With how common DLC and stuff was becoming that generation, though, I feel like it’s sort of a soft boundary for retro. I can equally accept retro being anything before the PS360, or before/including that generation.

I don’t look forward to the days where “retro gaming” refers to “any console with physical releases at all”.

otp ,

I agree that it doesn’t feel right, but I can understand the justification, haha

“Retro gaming” is a pretty broad description, anyways. There were probably people who didn’t want to include the 3D consoles, and even those who didn’t want to include cartridge-based consoles, haha

otp ,

who I went to different schools together with

This is one of the most confusing clauses I’ve ever read.

What does this mean?

otp ,

Ohhh, gotcha. Yeah, the “together” completely threw me off, haha

Thanks!

otp ,

I’ve never heard that in my life.

And your dad didn’t know Abe Lincoln, so I don’t get why it’s a fancy way of saying you only just know someone, lol

otp ,

And with numbers in general, I think you only say the “and” if it’s “and one”. 605 would be “six hundred five”, I think.

“after every meal” does not mean “immediately after every meal”

…is Nitter an actual news source?

Does Twitter count as a legitimate news source? Lol

With game install sizes these days, I appreciate the disclaimer about what TB means
