I stuck around read-only on old.reddit.com after about a month of not using it. Then they changed that on mobile, so then I migrated to Lemmy.

It doesn’t have the same level of content or communities…seems like far fewer “normies” have found their way here. In some ways, that’s nicer. In some ways, it’s worse.

But I don’t think I could go back to Reddit. Lemmy scratches that same itch, and it’ll likely only get bigger as time goes on. Probably not as big as Reddit was though.

I generally stuck to smaller or more focused communities on Reddit, which helped me evade a lot of the BS (but definitely not all of it).

The communities that share the same names are miniscule fractions of the size that they are on Reddit.

It’d be nice to see the activity approach the level of genuine activity that Reddit got. Especially because, as I understand it, Lemmy can’t experience the effects of rate limiting that happened to Reddit.

What Lemmy communities would you like to share that we may not know about?

I’m noticing an influx of Reddit users today, maybe revolving around their weird bug they had today. I know this question pops up semi regularly, but for those just getting their foot in the door maybe we can help show them what else is out here on the Fediverse to help them get started....

While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.

I’m generally against tipping because in my part of Canada, tipping is “supposed to be” about 15~20%, yet we pay servers no less than any other service worker. A server gets paid the same hourly wage as a McDonalds worker.

Delivery drivers are where I still feel fine about tipping. They’re often paying for their own vehicles and gas, insurance, all kinds of added expenses. But they’re making the same hourly rate as someone in a restaurant.

Canada was founded as a country specifically for the purpose of genocide. Virtually the entire country is on settled and stolen land. It would be hypocritical to be against someone else doing the same.

You’re right, but there’s a reason why Canadians don’t talk about their “founding fathers” the way Americans do.

I don’t know how many other countries are the same way.

The first PM was explicitly racist against indigenous people, and IIRC, the country was explicitly founded on the basis of white supremacy over indigenous peoples.

Ring finger interactions with pinkie

I recently heard that the nerves controlling the pinkie and ring finger are intertwined to the degree that it’s almost impossible for most people to move the pinkie and ring fingers without the other. Does it count as “independent” if one twitches while the other does the real moving? I think I may finally be special!

Place your hand palm down on a flat surface (like a table).

Put your middle finger under your palm, leaving your other fingers outstretched. (Kind of like throwing the heavy metal horns, but with only the middle finger tucked in)

You can probably lift your index finger or pinkie finger up alone no problem. Lifting your ring finger alone will probably be hard, if not impossible, as long as you keep your middle finger tucked under your palm.

I don’t have a solution. I’m half a planet away, and geopolitics is not my field. I’m not a world leader, nor a military strategist, or anything that would qualify me to make a decision or have an informed answer.

I might be a spineless fence-sitter, but I don’t like what Israel is doing, and I don’t like what Hamas is doing. For that reason, I wouldn’t call myself pro-Israel or pro-Hamas.

Does this also apply to the descendants of settlers? Does it apply to immigrants who immigrated to settled territories?

If so, does that also apply to those who’ve settled on and immigrated to the Americas?

And if so, how far back do we go? Because there are probably very few countries in the world whose current borders don’t encompass former territory of peoples who either have been wiped out or have been (or are currently) discriminated against…or have been erased (or “merged”) into what we now consider to be the people of that region.
