Yo, what was your first computer? How old were you, where and how did you get it, what did you do with it, etc.

TL;DR It was an old Wang system, 286 processor(I think, anyway), with no hard drive, a 5.25" floppy drive, and a lovely green monochrome monitor. I didn’t have it long enough to reach the point where I could have identified the actual hardware/specs....

Mine was an aquamarine blue iMac G3 (the see-through, cathode ray one), which was already quite outdated at that point. My father got me it from work, they were getting rid of old machines.

I used it mainly for music, my brother shared his huge music library over Bonjour inside iTunes, some basic games like chess and sudoku. I remember him teaching me to use Gimp and Seashore and some basic coding in Smultron. It barely ran YouTube, which I remember vividly because I would play videos via Miro, and trying in Safari or Firefox could straight-up freeze the computer. I must have been 7 or 8 at that point.

Is there a sponsor block situation for Podcasts?

I’m happy to adopt a new podcast app if it has sponsorblock natively or through a plug-in. Otherwise let me know if there’s some other way to make it work. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work as all of the segments tagged for skipping are crowdsourced which would also work for Podcasts.

On top of dynamic ads, another problem would be decentralisation of podcasts. Many of them are released on several platforms simultaneously, and some sort of extra work would be needed for this to work accordingly independent of where you’re listening to a particular podcast.

This is so fucking weird. Features like this usually work by merely attaching tags or creating shortcuts, and without moving the original file anywhere. Therefore removing the “Important” tab should only remove the tags and leave files intact.

I wonder whether it’s a poor implementation of the feature by Google (highly unlikely) or poor understanding and misrepresentation of the process by the article’s author (highly possible).

it’s a common argument against homeschooling that kids who have no exposure to peers in a school setting end up with poor social skills. unless this post is satire, which I am like 99% sure it must be, this seems to be a case of that

I got mine pre-covid in 2019 for 30 bucks and they still hold over 4 hours playback time on a single charge and around 4-5 full charges in the charger box.

Yeah it actually varies a lot. In Poland Whatsapp is the boomer messaging app for cringy political memes used exclusively by 50+ year-olds. Everyone else uses Facebook Messenger and Telegram (especially Ukrainians, Belarussians and people who work with them)

Poor video playback quality on Kodi (szmer.info)

I recently started using Kodi for my linux distro collection, but some videos look terrible in comparison to when played in VLC. See attached picture with screengrabs from VLC and Kodi of the same frame in an MKV 1080p h.265 file. What could be the issue? I didn’t change any video settings in either
