Is the law he broke stupid? Yes. Is he stupid for breaking the law on stage? Yes.

newtraditionalists ,

Precisely this. Not to mention your premise about reproducing fails when placed in front of a large majority of the queer community. Childless gay man here, by choice. I am extremely pleased, some may even say fulfilled, with my choice to not reproduce.

newtraditionalists ,

Im the sole IT guy at a non profit. I could probably have a movie playing, but if power shell is open I’m covered. It’s hilarious and glorious.

newtraditionalists ,

I can be, but am not always. I actually find niceness to be a highly overvalued character trait. Some of the most back stabbing, manipulative, wishy washy, fake people I have ever known were incredibly nice. In fact, they used their niceness as a shield and mask for their awful character traits. Took a long time to realize that niceness is not so important. Far more important are loyalty, reliability, willingness to admit fault, willingness to listen, and so on. Niceness is just basic human civility. I don’t care how nice you are if you are a manipulative and fake.

Perfect Dark revolutionized the multi-player experience, and had an equally awesome campaign. The 360 game was good, but nothing amazing. Really hoping this turns out to be amazing. I have faith that it will!

newtraditionalists ,

Perfect Dark introduced bots and a host of other customizable options that Golden Eye did not have. Golden Eye created the framework, and Perfect Dark improved on it in every possible way.

I saw it articulated as “the greenest thing anyone can do is not have kids.” Pretty cynical, but also true. Unfortunately, there tends to be a lot of overlap between truth and cynicism.

What is it about the text messages and emails sent by older people that make me feel like I'm having a stroke?

Maybe they're used to various shortcuts in their writing that they picked up before autocorrect became common, but these habits are too idiosyncratic for autocorrect to handle properly. However, that doesn't explain the emails I've had to decipher that were typed on desktop keyboards. Has anyone else younger than 45 or so felt similarly frustrated with geriatrics' messages?

@asklemmy

newtraditionalists ,

It’s about as annoying as young people abandoning any and all punctuation entirely. The amount of people that will write an entire paragraph and not use a single period is obscene. If you can’t bother to organize your thoughts in the most minimal way, I’m going to assume you have nothing of worth to say and just won’t read it. And frankly, if what you’re saying is so boiler plate you don’t need punctuation, then you really don’t have anything to add, so probably just shouldn’t.

Scientists have a long seemingly treasured history of trolling everything with their naming of stuff. Not a scientist, so I can’t confirm. But from the outside it sure looks like they have a lot of fun with it.

newtraditionalists ,

I agree with this entirely, but I think the missing context is the mental health of our admins. Not to mention the sheer number of hours of unpaid labor they do, they are subjected to some heinous things. I don’t want them to sacrifice themselves for us. I will follow beehaw if they leave, I already have another lemmy account to see a wider scope of the fediverse, but beehaw is too special to abandon.

newtraditionalists ,

Totally agreed!

newtraditionalists ,

Had the same response. The headline itself reeks of spin.

newtraditionalists ,

Oh you

newtraditionalists , (edited )

Same! Which really brings me back to the forum days, which I love. Iron Maiden’s fan club has a forum run like it’s 1999. I adore it.

when will be your last time to vote for the "lesser of two evils"?

When will be your “this is the last fucking time I’m voting for the ‘lesser of two evils’, then I don’t care after that, let this country burn to the ground”? For me, this is basically it. This is last election I’m going for that " lesser of two evils" bullshit. After that I’m done. It’s just pointless. Let’s...

How on earth are people not totally repulsed by Altman? Capitalist to the core. Gross to see all his employees drank the kool aid too. I work in tech, but non-profit side, so I sometimes forget just how driven by money the tech sector is. Altman is a fucking bond villain at this point.

newtraditionalists ,

Yeah makes sense. Thanks for the insight, I guess I was just too annoyed to see the obvious lol

newtraditionalists ,

My thoughts exactly. Do downvotes offend you that much? Like, who cares? Just use whatever you want. This is the internet, it’s not that serious.

newtraditionalists ,

This one actually made me audibly guffaw. Well done whoever did this lol

newtraditionalists ,

I’m all for voting in younger representatives but I would never in a million years vote for a 22 year old. Or a racist for that matter. But the most shocking part to me is his age. Like, 22 year olds have not been alive long enough to develop any kind of meaningful wisdom. I’m only 36 so my wisdom is only just developing and I look back on all the 22 year olds I knew when I was 22 and holy shit do not put any of those people in charge of important decisions.

newtraditionalists ,

Interesting. My point still stands though. It’s crazy that a party would have a 22 year old on said list, and that anyone would support a party that has a list with 22 year olds on it.

newtraditionalists ,

Very cool. Happy to be here and enjoying helping the community grow!

newtraditionalists ,

I pay $20 to watch a mediocre rehashed superhero movie for 2 hours. I can absolutely pay $60 or $70 for something that gives me 10 hours of entertainment. And most games I pickup give me way more than 10 hours. So I find gaming to be worth it pretty much all the time.

newtraditionalists ,

Completely agree. They demand more than most communities, while enjoying one of the few products that has dodged inflation in a huge way. I remember paying $60 for games in 2000. 20+ years later, and I’m supposed to be livid that most are still $60. The amount of whining is so crazy it’s embarrassing.

newtraditionalists ,

Good points made for sure!

newtraditionalists ,

Picked up Warhammer Dark Tide since it’s on gamepass. I played 8 hours straight. This could be bad…lol

newtraditionalists ,

I do IT for a non profit. Luckily, it’s one that is funded by membership dues so I don’t have to fundraise, which includes a ton of advertising and the like. True, I’m not making bank like a lot of folks in IT. But my peace of mind is intact. I make a good living, and feel good about what I do. Jobs like mine are out there, but when you’re a student all you hear about is the vast amount of money you can make quickly by selling your soul to amazon or whoever. If you keep at it, there is a path in IT that does not include losing sight of your values. Good luck!!

newtraditionalists ,

Eat a modest portion and eat something with plenty of fiber. But you may need to experiment as everyone’s body works differently. Lentil soup/stew/salad has been my go to.

newtraditionalists ,

Which terrorists? The Israeli ones or the Palestinian ones?

newtraditionalists ,

So glad to see this sentiment supported on beehaw. It’s a shame that people equate the two.

newtraditionalists ,

Unreal. The original single player game. I would die if they did this.

newtraditionalists ,

I feel this one. We have a partner who says “you know” before and after almost everything he says. It’s so distracting that I can barely hear what he is trying to say. I now do my best to avoid interacting with him or his team in any way.

Not counting games that were unfun because of bugs, what’s the most unfun video game that you’ve played and what made it unfun?

Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.

newtraditionalists ,

This is so true. I bought the anniversary collection years ago. When I went to play SF1 I was flabbergasted. It’s legitimately terrible. Even by standards back then. Though, as someone who is a bit obsessed currently, I am so glad they kept up with it.

What's a skill that's taken for granted where you live, but is often missing in people moving there from abroad?

I was thinking about that when I was dropping my 6 year old off at some hobbies earlier - it’s pretty much expected to have learned how to ride a bicycle before starting school, and it massively expands the area you can go to by yourself. When she went to school by bicycle she can easily make a detour via a shop to spend some...

newtraditionalists ,

As a musician this is both hilarious and amazing. The amount of awesome moments at shows where people clap and start speeding up and get so off and ruin the moment is just so damn high. Yay for Spain. The world needs to learn from you!

newtraditionalists ,

Eternal Champions. Such a cool concept, a great cast of characters, and great graphics for the time. Spent so many hours playing it with my brothers growing up. Xavier was the fucking best.

newtraditionalists ,

I enjoyed squabblr at first but the dev has already made terrible choices so I’m not into it. The community is good though, so that’s a bummer. Raddle is insane. They are leftist fascists. I’m super left, but a bunch of teenagers pining for anarchy is absurd. Its so clear that most of them don’t know what they are talking about in the slightest. I noped out of there quickly.

At which level within the hierarchy of the US office do individuals aspiring to be part of it tend to be perceived as driven by a strong desire for power?

A lot of people would describe people who want to be the president as people who shouldn’t be president, but I’ve never heard someone describe someone who would describe someone who wants to be mayor as that. When does the office reach a level of influence that it begins to attract individuals driven by a craving for power?

newtraditionalists ,

I’m honestly shocked you’ve never heard a candidate for mayor called power hungry. If you spend more time in political spaces you will definitely hear it. I’ve heard people sling the claim of power hungry at people going for schoolboard, many times. I think the perception at a national level translates to when people engage at the local level, when and if they ever do. So, like, immediately I guess?

newtraditionalists ,

Nice read and very happy for Galante! He is clearly a fan of gaming who made something awesome for fans of gaming. It’s not exactly a game I got addicted to (played maybe 10 or 15 hours total?) but it truly is such a refreshing treat. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go. It’s super nostalgic and super easy to pick up immediately. Mostly, I’m excited to see what other things Galante and his team can do! But as long as they are happy continuing to make Vampire Survivors as good as they can, I’m happy for them.

newtraditionalists ,

Read the article folks. This is very different from covid, and they had a similar outbreak in 2019. Sounds like it’s something to do with their food sanitation practices?

newtraditionalists ,

HA! Your edit just floored me, I didn’t even catch that. Lowest common denominator and all that jazz lol.

What are your favorite video games that force you to pull out the pen and paper?

Ever since the language puzzle in Tunic that got me to fill up 6 pocket sized pages of notes over multiple days while trying to puzzle it out as I tried to and, eventually, succeeded at translating the in-game “paper” manual, I’ve had a craving for games that force you to pull out a notebook and take notes/puzzle things...

newtraditionalists ,

Myst. Surprised this wasn’t mentioned yet.

newtraditionalists ,

Nice read, thanks for sharing! The NES will always be the epicenter of my lifelong love for gaming. I will always remember receiving Megaman 2 for my bday. We had other games, but as the youngest of three boys, it was the first game that was truly mine. And I will never forget the weird ass cover art it had lol.

newtraditionalists ,

As a massive Destiny fan, I was around for all of that as it happened. So so so glad to hear this is how it turned out. These kind of people need to be made examples of, and I hope he has a miserable time trying to recover.

newtraditionalists ,

Street Fighter 6 has become a bit of an obsession.

newtraditionalists ,

You’re much better than me lol. Currently stuck in silver 5 with my main, lily. I’ll get it eventually. I hope. Good luck breaking into diamond!
