The quantized model you can run locally works decently and they can’t read any of it, which is nice.

I use that one specifically huggingface.co/…/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct-Q4_K_M.…

If you’re looking for a relatively user-friendly software to use it, you can look at GPT4All (open source) or LM Studio.

The format currently used in adblocker predates uBO by almost a decade so no, but still, maintaining this add-on with how fast and often web browser changes, and keeping it performant must be quite the task.

More like evening the playing field. If China doesn’t want to let social media businesses operate freely in China, why would the US be required to do the same?

Do I need a new phone for 2FA? (Tad Long)

So recently my work, a mid sized engineering firm, decided to start upgrading their IT security. The rumor is that we have potential DOD work coming our way. Over the past few months there has been multiple company decided changes to our 2 factor authentication mobile app. I willingly installed the app on my phone over a year...

If there is a technical requirement for you to do the job as an employee (not a contractor), the employer is expected to provide the necessary tools for you to accomplish the tasks they require from you.

With that said, which 2FA methods are available? Is it a proprietary app or you can enroll a TOTP (ie: the QR code)? Are they support hardware tokens (WebAuthn, FIDO2, Passkeys? If they do, they could simply provide you something like a Security Key, which is quite affordable and does thenjob quite well

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

IT guy had mentioned the security key option, but he said they would not work on most of our desktops because they are all custom built PC’s

I’d be surprised if they didn’t work, for FIDO2 all it needs is an OS that can do HID over USB (basically everything) and a browser that can handle it.

The only issue I could see is if they disable the USB port for security reasons.

Using passkeys on Linux & Android

Passkeys seem like a great idea, and we are at a point where, although things are still very much in flux, software passkeys managed by password managers are starting to be usable. I thought I’d share the workflow that’s working for me on Linux with some sites, and ask the community for more tips & tricks....

  • “Passkey” seems to be an umbrella term for WebAuthn or FIDO U2F. It looks like WebAuthn is a part of FIDO2.

In fact, Passkeys are considered passwordless, and rely specifically on discoverable credentials and resident keys to store the identity alongside the certificate for the authentication.

U2F is the previous standard, also known as FIDO. WebAuthn is basically another name for Passkeys, relying on CTAP2 as the protocol to interface between the website and the authentication token.

What’s the point of paying for early access if need to pay again when it’s stable?

Early access users took a gamble of paying a low price for a likely buggy game, that might evolve over time through user’s feedback and that has a possibility of failing and never come out of early access.

Asking for the early access users to buy the game at full price is a slap on the face.

You can’t give them honey because it can cause botulism. The risk is greater with unpasteurized honey, but it seems pasteurized honey can also carry the bacteria and their weak immune system might not be able protect them.

I said the same thing for Reddit before the third-party apps crackdown; instead of cracking down on users who just want a better experience, they could allow third-party apps to be officially used if you have a paid/Premium subscription?

That way Google gets paid, and the users who enjoy their third-party apps can keep using them without worrying about them suddenly breaking.

That doesn’t solve the privacy issue which is a good reason why people use these, but at least it partly solves the monetary issue.

Technically NewPipe simply parses the website and is seen as a web browser from YouTube’s point of view.

That how they bypass the API’s TOS, they don’t use it.

Are you sure it’s not throttling because of a thermal issue? Make sure the fans and heatsink are clean.

It could also be that the factory-applied thermal paste might have degraded over time and reapplying new thermal paste might solve the problem.

Honestly I haven’t noticed that, so yeah this sounds like a tech support issue on your end.

But yeah, drivers are often updated to fix quirks in newly released games all the time. Drivers updates targets everyone and won’t be suggested based on which game you currently have installed.
