To understand how unhinged our society is one only needs to understand how we constantly improve our technology, but don’t use it to improve us as a society.

It is not about mainstream or not, it is a about superiority.

The pain of being dumb enough to buy a brand new gaming notebook with an nvidia gpu… But I’ll return as soon as possible. The pain of using win 11 is unbearable.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Kinda like when I get likes from the porn bots over at twitter. :)

And as a result the remaining workforce will have to work more.

The AI overlords will be trained on data based on human overlords decisions and justifications. We are fucked, my man.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Oh my. I see you don’t know mich about the hell called key performance indicators…

Key performance indicators will be what will turn our AI overlords into AI tyrants. And there is so so much data available for training the AIs.

And he’ll still be underpaid.

The original ones. They are still popular among Gen X and Millenials. Personally, I never like the Beatles. I don’t hate them, but I find their music slightly annoying.

While Mixrosoft produces questionable software, they are really good at ugly marketing strategies.

It is imo literally unbelievable that e.g. the EU is not enforcing an own OS (that the EU and not another country can control) on the EU members administrations and militaries. Microsoft is good with stuff like this.

A German state is ditching Windows and Microsoft Office for Linux and LibreOffice on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions (www.theregister.com)

Schleswig-Holstein, Germany’s most northern state, is starting its switch from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, and is planning to move from Windows to Linux on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions....

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it is always funny when people shit on non-MS office suites for not being 100% comaltible with MS Office, when it is Microsoft who doesn’t stick to the international standards.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Amd just after Munich announced it will go back to Windows, Microsoft decided to move its German central to Munich. What a coincidence.

@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

You might want to look into what standardization means.

Start here: …wikipedia.org/…/International_Organization_for_S…

And here more on our specific case: www.iso.org/standard/66363.html

Imo companies who hinder or harm standardization (Microsoft and Apple are the leaders here) are literally among the worst things on this earth.

Yeah, I was about to suggest an e-bike or e-scooter. But probably better to just walk or take a bus/tram/metro.

I am not jealous of your browser history.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Stuff changes. Here an example what is considered brutalism nowadays: thespaces.com/…/3/

TBF though, concrete walls are still pretty much a requirement.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Tbh, today was the first day I realized that people see privacy mode as something else then “privacy from other users on the same browser”. But yeah, makes sense that people who learned about the internet on a smartphone see things differently.

Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability. (lemmy.world)

Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe I am old, but having no micro-payment bullshit is what made gaming better.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, but Arcades are Arcades. They were also not really a thing in Germany (because they are 18+ in Germany). I only ever used them on vacations.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

No need to pirate. There is a shitload of games on the internetarchive: archive.org/details/internetarcade

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Depends a lot on the games for me. I can spend a lot of time on old games, if they were mechanically well made. But if the controls are clunky (like e.g. in old adventure games) I am out.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

I think everyone agrees that we leave early 3d games out of our nostalgia.

Not really a time waster, but a classic: Lone Wolf Saga

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Whenever I read that joke I get sad. His pictures on the Wiki article from 1990 and from 2000 tells one everything.

(If anyone wonders: Yes, I am great at parties.)

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

What they tried to say is, that Taiwan also considers mainland China to be their rightful territory. Taiwans official name is Republic of China, Mainland China’s official name Peoples Republic of China.

Both consider themselves to be the rightful government of the whole China (including both mainland China and Taiwan). Both do not consider the other parties rule to be legitimate.

It really is comparable to Korea or pre-unification Germany. Both governments are united in following the “one China principle”.

Nice, but the part in the neighborhood was a little too visible. I saw it while going through the panels already.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Dnd beyond as it is now is still very usable without a subscription. But yeah, this will probably change with the next edition.

It is really annoying. Dnd beyond is such a great product, but it will very likely be ruined by the business model soon.

My sons will still be my family when they celebrate their 35th birthday… They’ll hopefully have their own places, but that doesn’t change that they are my family.

And it is stil, accurate (except S. Jobs death). Fuck we do not evolve. :(

menemen ,

At the super market? I pay 0,29€ for 1,5l or 0,15€ for 0,5l.

If it is at a gas station 1$ seems really cheap though.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

It’s probably “felt thermodynamics”. The can feels colder, so it is colder.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

You got an upvote on the first sentence and a downvote on the second sentence. :)

menemen ,

That used to be fairly common 10-15 years ago.

I am on their side. Do what you want, it’s your coffee, you have to like it, but we do what we want, we silently judge.

Both countries have strong social constructs which imo will decrease the possibilities for potential rapists to act on their urges. It is imo not that the numbers of potential rapists is lower.

What I doubt much more is that banning porn will significantly reduce actual porn consumption.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

It’s crazy. Used to be almost a lifestyle. Now it is just another failed social media project.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Lemny is cool, but it is kind of a circle jerk. 30-50 year old middle class tech-job left-leaning males are probably 2/3 of most servers atm.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Hmm, not sure if this is a real story. It might be.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Man, I remember how back in 2009 we were hyped about this possible chance for a fairer world that a independent currency might bring. Guess we were quite wrong. :)

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

No one expected that dozens of crypto currencies would pop up. Most of us actually expected it to just fail and dissolve. But there was the naive, little glimpse of hope that this might destroy the petro dollar (which was much stronger in 2009 than today).

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

The enterntainment industry as a whole (from music over movies up to professional sports, even literature to a degree) shows just how depraved our society is (is and was, not “has become”, we were always shit).

@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

He gets a lot of backlash in the disussions though (also 72% downvotes).

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

The main reason why I didn’t want high end packages for our last car was, that I am a cheap bastard. The second reason is, that I think touchscreens in cars are one of the dumbest ideas imaginable.
