10 years ago back in college I mainly ran Ubuntu and did the windows VM with VFIO GPU passthrough to game on a fullscreen windows VM that got full PCI usage of the GPU, was the best of both worlds

I have an nvidia GPU and tried popOS and Nobara and I cannot get games to run at all. Keeps crashing or going to a black screen and the game never actually launches. Definitely going to be going team red next round to get off windows finally

Glad to see these videos and not just that but these chips in general! 4 months ago I got a 5600X3D for $180 from Microcenter and my 3080 12G saw a 10-22% boost in FPS compared to my 5600X.

Just my two cents I ran lineageos on my oneplus 6 for the last 3 months before getting a new phone, also running micro GApps and I was able to use my banking app and things like android auto just fine.

I have rokus and use a pihole plus NAT routing rules to force them to not use hard coded DNS so they can’t reach their APIs and most ad domains and while not perfect I don’t see many ads. Maybe the odd poster scrolling around to get to Plex or Netflix

Houses and mortgages in my neighborhood aren’t much cheaper for an older house with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. I know owning and a 300/month savings off that higher rent price is not nothing but it’s not the huge savings it was several years ago to instead have a mortgage. If you buy an unlocked phone not from a carrier it’s not that bad at all really. Samsung dupes are easily disabled in the settings.

I had an unlocked S20 for 3 years and battery life was great until I dropped it twice in as many months and it stopped working. Was simple to disable things running in the background. Didn’t notice much difference to stock android and lineageOS personally. Just tossing out another viewpoint

I think the simplest setup is keeping all the apps and services on the local network and doing something like this guide so they are always behind a VPN. Then setup another VPN on unraid or another device to access from outside the local network. There are plenty of other guides for unraid and Plex and the arr stack out there, unraid is just what I use but can use whatever OS you would prefer.

Getting a non carrier Samsung phone is fine. Doesn’t come with any social media or media bloat and can easily disable or uninstall Samsung dupe apps outside of Samsung pay. Was the case on my S20 and my wife’s S23 isnt bad either

Same I got a 3080 in 2021 when they finally hit $900 which was still too much, and last month went from a 5600X to 5600X3D for an extra 20% performance for $200. Now don’t have to upgrade for another 2 years or so

I use Kavita and KavitaEmail to organize and have a frontend for my books, and the latter to email them to my kindle if it’s not on there yet. My kavita container is stopped most of the time because I already know what I’m going to read next and just need it up to sync or send new books.

Used to just have my library I exported from Amazon and ebooks com on a single folder on my NAS, kavita helped clean it up a bit.

I also tried audiobookshelf but mostly for audiobooks and podcasts and didnt quite fit my workflow I already had and liked using kavita and Antennapod.

I have a cloudflare tunnel setup for 1 service in my homelab and have it connecting to my reverse proxy so the data between cloudflare and my backend is encrypted separately. I get no malformed requests and no issues from cloudflare, even remote public IP data in the headers.

Everyone mentions this as an issue, and I am sure doing the default of pointing cloudflared at a http local service but it’s not the ONLY option.
