So lemmy.world is still excluded from the list but the active users from it are counted in?

Wistful ,
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I’m afraid not. Only open source way of achieving that, that I can think of would be self hosting stable diffusion and using web ui on your phone. Which probably wouldn’t be really easy nor convenient.

A long shot would be making a feature request for ImageToolbox to implement something like that.

Wistful , (edited )
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

What stable diffusion has a retouch option on PC’s then?

I’m not a stable diffusion guru, but yeah, you can remove objects using inpaint feature. It definitely wouldn’t be straight forward thing to do though, and probably not a great experience since web ui is not really good on the mobile devices, but I haven’t used it in a while, maybe it got improved.

And that is extremely ironic mentioning request it in ImageToolbox I actually already have haven’t heard back yet though.

¯*(ツ)*/¯ I couldn’t have known you already did.

On Android, it’s probably a little utility software called Quick Cursor (it’s not FOSS). It’s incredibly convenient being able to spawn a cursor on your phone from thin air that you can use to reach the “unreachable” portions of your screen, especially if you are holding your phone with one hand. Besides being a “phone touchpad” it has a bunch of ways of triggering actions/shortcuts, for example: volume or brightness control, launching an app (I use it for launching a floating calculator, notes…), opening notification shade, copying text (it can copy any text that is under the cursor, even if it’s not selectable)…

It’s not that I couldn’t go without it, but it changed the way I use my phone and it would feel really weird without it. It feels like it should be a part of the OS.

Wistful ,
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I think you are missing the point of the app. The cursor part of it is more of a gesture, or you can think of it as a “thumb extension”. The point is to help you avoid the inconvenience and save time by allowing you to reach farther parts of your screen without repositioning your hand. I called it a “phone touchpad” just because, when you activate it, a part of the screen is acting like a touchpad. You are not using it for a specific purpose of having a cursor on your phone, the cursor is basically just the tip of your “virtual extended thumb”. So it’s a utility/accessibility software.
Using a physical mouse would be the opposite of what this app is trying to achieve.

Wistful ,
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I think it might be possible only in the paid version, but that’s exactly how it works, you just have to increase the Cursor area in Swipe zones settings.

And it does stay under the Twilight if you give Twilight the accessibility permission.

So, there are 2 main places for shortcuts/actions: tracker actions and edge actions.

These are my tracker actions
https://discuss.tchncs.de/pictrs/image/2d1a2b87-42dd-44c3-9dc5-f998f0a10747.png
I set it so it activates when I tap and hold the tracker, it shows up those shortcuts. If I slide my finger towards one of the shortcuts, it activates it.

These are my edge actions
https://discuss.tchncs.de/pictrs/image/e1f7dbd6-f231-4eec-ad41-46f5cc7e153c.png
These are actions/shortcuts that you trigger by pushing the cursor to the edge of the screen.

You can pick any app from your phone or any of the actions available in the app, there are a lot… Like system controls (volume, brightness control, media playback buttons, screen lock, screen rotation, etc.) and you can also make a shortcut for Tasker/MacroDroid/Automate action. So basically, you can make a shortcut for almost anything you can think of.

I’ll try it :D

Wistful ,
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

It’s a really nice app, I like the fact that it uses mpv, but you cannot pick the stream quality in this app? I always avoid re-encoding (picking different stream quality from jellyfin) but I noticed that it’s missing in Findroid.

How do you search Lemmy?

I’ve been trying to find any information on this at all without luck. 3rd party search engines like Google and DDG still don’t have much of Lemmy indexed, and the built in search seems to just grab everything whether it matches the search or not. Is there search parameters you can use like Reddit’s “title:” or...

Wistful ,
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

There is no good way really.
Lemmy’s search is pretty lackluster. You will have a hard time finding what you are looking for, unless you are searching for something verbatim, and if your query contains common words…Good luck. It also has no search operators.

When it comes to search engines, only google is somewhat usable (from my experience), but it’s very much hit or miss. Sometimes you will be able to find the post, just by typing lemmy [post title or part of it], but it will almost never be in the top results.
And most of the time , first result is Reddit…

You can try using fedi-search.com

It basically just uses this query for “more accurate search” [search query] (intext:“modlog” & “instances” & “docs” & “code” & “join-lemmy”)

And this one for normal search [search query] (site:lemmy.world OR site:lemmy.ml OR site:lemm.ee OR site:hexbear.net OR site:sh.itjust.works OR site:lemmy.dbzer0.com OR site:feddit.de OR site:kbin.social OR site:mastodon.social OR site:mastodon.cloud OR site:mstdn.social OR site:mastodon.online OR site:mastodon.world OR site:libre.video OR site:video.antopie.org)

Which is not just for lemmy, as you can see

Here is the search query I made for the top 35 lemmy instances (by active users) based on this: lemmy.fediverse.observer/list

[your search query] (site:lemmy.world OR site:lemm.ee OR site:sh.itjust.works OR site:lemmy.ml OR site:hexbear.net OR site:lemmy.ca OR  site:programming.dev OR site:lemmy.dbzer0.com OR site:feddit.org OR site:lemmy.blahaj.zone OR site:discuss.tchncs.de OR site:lemmygrad.ml OR site:sopuli.xyz OR site:lemmy.sdf.org OR site:lemmy.zip OR site:beehaw.org OR site:infosec.pub OR site:aussie.zone OR site:feddit.nl OR site:midwest.social OR site:feddit.uk OR site:slrpnk.net OR site:reddthat.com OR site:lemmy.one OR site:jlai.lu OR site:pawb.social OR site:lemmy.kya.moe OR site:lemmy.today OR site:startrek.website OR site:feddit.it OR site:mander.xyz OR site:ttrpg.network OR site:lemmings.world OR site:ani.social OR site:feddit.org)

In SearXNG u can use !lepo to search lemmy posts but it’s basically just lemmy’s search.

I haven’t been personally. I just learned about it and wanted to share, because it’s cool looking. Maybe someone who visited can share their experience.
I looked at some vlogs on yt, and it seems noisy but nothing crazy.
Example: Some random vloggers on the ferris wheel (time stamped), gets louder when they get off the ride.

What does reliable mean? You want the crowd’s rating of the movie to align with yours, which is pretty much impossible. I find Letterboxd ratings to be more sensible than IMDB’s, so that is what I use. But I also read a few positive and a few negative reviews to get a better idea.

There is a site called Flickmetrix which has advanced filters and also an average ratings (critics, metacritic, IMDB, Letterboxd). Maybe that would be helpful to you…

Wistful , (edited )
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

From my experience, in chrome browsers, tap and hold context menu will differ in some cases (I’m not exactly sure depending on what), but sometimes you will have the option copy link address which will copy just the image link, and in other cases you will only have share image option which I personally never use.
It seems like share image option copies the image into the clipboard and if you choose to include the link, it will also paste the link bellow (link to the page where you copied the image from, and not the direct link to the image, it seems like). And that will work (including the link) only if you share the image to a specific app. If you choose copy image option from the share menu, it will only copy the image to clipboard without the link, even if you choose to include the link as well.
So in such cases you would have to long tap on the image, open image in new tab and then copy the link from the url bar, which is how I always done it, but it is pretty stupid that you can’t copy only the link from that share menu.
Maybe there is some other way that I don’t know of ¯*(ツ)*/¯

In firefox browser you will always have the option to copy image location, which will copy just the image link, I’m not sure about other browsers.

I was just messing with the settings and this is what worked for me…

In Heliboard settings:

  • Set the language to your native language.
    You may have to download and add the dictionary for your native language. For my native language it was missing, so it asked me to add it.
  • Turn on the multilingual typing option for English.

In system settings:

Go to Spell Checker settings (you can search that term in system settings, for me it was in Languages & Input > Tools category > Spell Checker)

  • You want to enable the spell checker if it isn’t already.
  • Set languages to your native language.
  • Set the default spell checker to Heliboard.

Pro tip: Point the fan so that it blows outside and DO NOT put it directly on the window or right next to it. Instead, move it ~50cm away from the window to take advantage of Bernoulli’s principle (push the air out more efficiently by pulling the air surrounding the fan).

You can cool down the room even if the door is closed. You are lowering the pressure inside your room so the outside air is forced to rush in. If you place the fan like I explained, and point it at the lower part of your window and you put your hand next to the upper part of the window, you will feel the cold air coming in.

Why do you find OBS to be suboptimal? I never used OBS on Linux, is it not working well there?

Wistful ,
@Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Fair enough. It’s nice to have something that just works out of the box and doesn’t need much configuration, for sure.
And even though most points you have mentioned are actually doable in OBS, they need additional setup/configuration or a plugin. But I personally don’t mind that, and in most cases I prefer that, especially granular configuration of video settings.

I noticed a white hue on the top of the screen and ONLY on the homescreen. I thought it was a Fairphone 5 issue, but now i noticed it on my Nothing Phone 2a (photo)as well. What is it? (lemmy.world)

After i got my Fairphone back from the repaircenter (they thought there was something wrong with it), they told me it was an intended design. However, i see other people mention they don’t have it.

Yeah it is visible, but much more subtle than on your original picture in the post.
