Family member: “what’s so funny?”

Me: “snort titta”

(I didn’t show them the comic I have self respect)

jdf038 ,

They’re just eating hot dogs perfectly normally and enjoying sugar. Get your mind outta the gutter

jdf038 ,

Lmao hot dogs and miracle whip name a more wholesome and totally socially acceptable combination that I totally didn’t miss

jdf038 ,

I lost it at " 🥰"

But as someone with little understanding of the language I’m glad I read this from you and the OC

jdf038 ,

I’d vote for you for AI overlord

jdf038 ,

I saw shower and started worrying but it’s OK.

jdf038 ,

Knowing about “Temporary Internet Files” while my family was unaware made me feel like some sort of God of knowledge.

Oh and yeah I think I found porn there hooray!

jdf038 ,

Not OC but the idea of making someone feel good makes me feel good. It’s like double the dopamine for me.

I could totally see being grossed out by it when I think about it logically. In fact it is gross when I think about it logically.

jdf038 ,

If you’re a cis man, it isn’t hard to get done. My urologist talked about the finer points of sci-fi while my procedure was done and then he mentioned that men often use events like march madness to conveniently allow themselves to be lazy. He was so cool. I want to be my urologist when i grow up.

The procedure sucks for folks who might not have the safety net like I did for it. I realize that. But if you do I have to say that it’s much better than for a woman and that you are being a feminist warrior for your wife/SO. Anyway I encourage all guys to get it when they feel they are ready.

Also bringing your semen sample in a little lab bottle to your doctor is weird AF.

jdf038 ,

Not OC, but an important tenet of Buddhism as you probably know is known as the “First Noble Truth,” which states that “life is suffering.” The second through fourth noble truths basically tell us to cease attachment and desire and to live a life based on “right living” to avoid the problems caused by attachment and suffering.

I think this is where OC has an issue and I agree because sometimes being a human sucks and you need some escapes from that suffering. I consider myself a Buddhist as well, and while many Buddhists will talk of the “middle way” between living a conventional life and living a life that tries to get rid of all attachments, I find myself mostly leaning toward the conventional ways of alleviating suffering like playing video games and smoking weed.

Tldr: living like a monk isn’t easy (or something I want) but the Buddhist worldview helps me make sense of the world so I use it.

jdf038 ,

I’m glad you’ve got peace with that but I don’t envy you for having to go through it ❤️

Why do we have to do the health insurance company's job for them?

Just so tired of almost every time a doctor submits stuff to insurance, we have to be the ones to make multiple phone calls to both the doctor’s office and insurance to iron everything out, figure out what the issue is (it’s always a different issue), and basically be the go-between for the office and insurance. What am I...

jdf038 ,

Same with HSA cards. I quit paying into mine because they wanted proof I got work done after using at a dentist.

Yeah, because dentists usually sell fun things. Fuckin morons

jdf038 ,

Similar issue with me! In our case both were HSAs and my employer changed companies. The first was awesome (and super helpful considering it was pre tax) and the second was horrible.

jdf038 ,

This is my take too. I gave Starfield a chance and I should have just gotten Baldurs Gate 3 that weekend instead.

What’s worse is how they dug down into qualifying why it sucked and their nightmare of a PR response. It fucking sucks though too. I want them to be good.

Do you ever worry that you're secretly a psychopath that unknowingly manipulates people around you?

Someone recently told me that they sometimes feel gaslighted around me because I effortlessly make them question their beliefs and feelings. Hearing that didn’t sit well with me, especially since I’ve been pondering the question in the title for quite some time....

jdf038 ,

To add on: questioning and reflecting on your behaviors is the first step.

I’m definitely guilty of some of this too and being more mindful of it has been… a process… that isn’t easy but helps me a lot.

jdf038 ,

And it definitely wasn’t Russia until the expansions of Peter and Catherine.

That said I blew air quickly through my nose. I just wish it were more historically accurate 🤓

jdf038 ,

I love how they put that at the end of their (awesome) Christmas album.

jdf038 ,

Also with charcoal you can get creative and use basic smoking to elevate your game.

Also don’t light it with lighter fluid, a starter chimney is the way to go.

Pros for charcoal: you get to drink beer, play with fire, and grill and get credit for it.

Pros with propane: king of the hill and it’s easy to clean up

jdf038 ,

I use crumpled up paper at the bottom of mine. Oxygen and the chimney do wonders to get it started. Living in the suburbs I’m always grossed out when I walk by an outdoor BBQ and smell lighter fluid.

I also love Alton Brown and there are other videos that will teach you how to do a lot on a simple Weber style kettle grill.

Also: once you get other accessories like pans to hold and divide the charcoal for indirect heating then you’ll even open up more especially if you have a thermometer in the grill. While keeping it as low as a smoker isn’t easy it’s not impossible and I’ve done some great pork and slower cooked meats on mine.

jdf038 ,

I gotta say one “good” thing about Xitter being so stupid is that I don’t doomscroll the site like I did when I was on. While I’m glad that Nitter exists because we need to keep an eye out for crazy, anyone who wants to avoid doomscrolling and losing brain cells might want to skip that link for their mental health’s sake.

jdf038 ,

Perhaps parking a site for traffic and then using the enshitified data to sell it?

It makes me sick how dumb it sounds.

jdf038 ,

This is all awesome but any mind altering substance really needs to be used with a therapist when we are talking about average people in a large population. I’d also argue they both have benefits but their drawbacks are just too strong.

Weed is mostly non addictive but comes with other issues and isn’t perfect. Heart issues? Family history of schizophrenia? Either of those could be really bad. Is this a good argument for legalization and harm reduction? Yes. I’m not sure about widespread psychiatric use though. Perhaps more with a therapist but that therapist would be key - similar to the shamans of indigenous cultures.

I also totally agree with these not being long term. I love weed but the “420 smoke every dayyyyyyy” culture also ignores the need to work on yourself and do the work with a clear head. I think that internal (ideally drug free and sober) work gets you to the point of not only benefitting from these drugs but avoiding their abuse.

jdf038 ,

This is one thing where so many people I talk to got unlucky. For me, SSRIs were super lucky in that they helped alleviate depression caused by my anxiety which then helped me find other roots of the anxiety. Turns out undiagnosed ADHD is terrible for your anxiety - got diagnosed though!

Side effects for me have included stomach issues and weight not coming off even as my physical condition improves as I’ve started running again. I’ll take it for now until I start weaning off in the future. I wouldn’t say they were a lifesaver but they helped immensely.

jdf038 ,

So for me it’s similar to this except I really enjoy making missions for a DCS World group (combat flight sim) I play with. Not only that but I make PowerPoints and briefings. So fun to nerd out on when I have time to make it.

jdf038 , (edited )

EDIT: i present to you: the duality of humanity.

the duality of humanity

jdf038 ,

You’ve never encountered photojournalism?! I know they are cutting budgets for photographers but that seems sad to me.

jdf038 ,

Does it matter? Download a few movies for an 8 hour flight. Not a big deal on any device.

Also I still think this product is horrendously overpriced but it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

jdf038 ,

Not really. Bathing in the 17th century was more common than a lot of people realize. Check this link out for a historian that argues this in an article: frockflicks.com/the-gross-18th-century/

jdf038 ,

It only momentarily loads for me. My guess is they are limiting its bandwidth(?) I could be wrong.

jdf038 ,

Nevermind it works now! For me it would load then show a broken icon

jdf038 ,

Regarding music: the concerts I missed out in haunt me!

You seem pretty similar to how I was in school. My way of revisiting that is understanding it now that I’m a teacher. I think it makes me way more effective. Not perfect but able to connect and engage students more as well as encourage them to not fear being challenged.

jdf038 ,

This is where the “what if you could change your direction in the multiverse” aspect dies for me: my kids. I wouldn’t trade them for any better choices on my end.

That said I’d totally have brushed my teeth more when I was younger. That can’t have ripple effects can it? (Twilight zone music intensifies)

jdf038 ,

Well AI has peaked. It’s been fun but I can’t imagine anything better.

jdf038 ,

Idea for a Onion article headline:

“Anxious man from Ohio catapults humanity toward unending climate doom”

Tagline: “Shaker Heights resident Stephen Brown, a 32 self-described “yuppie liberal” living with his girlfriend in the popular Cleveland suburb was the human who tipped the scales when he forgot to recycle last week, an anonymous source at EPA tells us.”

jdf038 ,

There’s gotta be a joke about Microsoft screwing us all in there I think right?

jdf038 ,

OK you fancy Dutch dude. What’re ya gonna do now? Brag about bicycles and socialized medicine?!!! (He says, jealous af)

jdf038 ,

Games my kids and I enjoy on Steam:

(Not Xbox sorry)

  • Alba (such a cute story)
  • FPS Chess
  • Dinkum
  • Webbd
  • Tinykin
  • Spiritfarer
  • Wobbly Life
  • LEGO adaptations of series
  • Among Us (canned chat only)
jdf038 ,

Classic the guy who played Newman in jurassic Park whose name I forget meme:

“SEE?! NOBODY CARES THAT YOU’RE WEARING A MASK!”

jdf038 ,

I’d go on a youtube journey. I’m sure you’ll find some cool linguistics videos about it

jdf038 ,

This is the way.

Also it helps to get super highly up voted opinions and then recycle them for my friends so they think I’m more insightful/smarter than i am.

jdf038 ,

You’re lord of chuckles so you’re obviously doing fine. Keep on taking part and have fun here.

jdf038 ,

Something that bugs me: why does the headline/article seem so focused on her being a mother? Lots of people have kids. Shouldn’t it say teacher or woman?

Edit: she wasn’t a teacher but served on an advisory schoolboard council. I didn’t read the article.
