About AuDHD social interactions and inability to stop

A colleague of mine complained that it’s impossible to find sour cream here. I said no, it’s everywhere, it’s just called differently here, check this and that supermarkets, look near the butter.
In the evening, I send them links to the online shop pages of all the varieties of sour cream in every local supermarket chain, and for those which don’t have the online shop, I google images of the varieties sold there and send them also.
Next day, when doing my daily shopping, I see sour cream, and I buy it, and then bring it to the colleague.
Only after seeing the confused expression on their face after giving them the thing, I realize that maybe I may be doing something wrong, and keep the two other varieties in the bag not telling them that I actually brought more.
And I have to tell you that I am actually kinda proud of myself that THIS TIME I was able to notice the expression and actually stop.
Usually I realize I have done something wrong only after they run away and start avoiding me

Sigh.

I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon

For my local autism group movie nights, I am looking for recommendations of sensory-friendly movies.

Criteria include calm soundtrack, slower-paced action, quieter narrative, and no rapid cuts, fast camera movements, loud or uncomfortable sound effects or flashing lights.

Internet research only gave me results for sensory-friendly cinema events, which is not what we are looking for.

Letterboxd also has no such lists, but I will attempt to create one.

We had dinner with some friends this evening -- five of us in total. After discussing it with Helen earlier in the week, I came out to them as autistic.

I got an interesting set of reactions. Angela (a former headteacher, who I thought knew more about autism) said: "but you're so social." So I said a few words about masking and learning to spend time in company. Lesley replied: "you should have known him when he was young. He was really quite odd." (No, it's fine, we have that kind of relationship.)

I told Angela I thought she'd known for years, and she said she'd suspected it, but only because of my unusual walk. So, if you really want to pass as NT, you need not only to avoid ticcing and stimming, and make eye contact, and say the right things at the right speed, and pull the right faces, but also to get your walk right. Who knew teachers specialised in gait analysis?

So that's it. I'm committed. I'm now. 🙂

Why do you need a label?

"Because there is comfort in knowing you are a normal zebra, not a strange horse. Because you can't find community with other zebras if you don't know you belong. And because it is impossible for a zebra to be happy or healthy spending its life feeling like a failed horse.”

q: @omgimautisticaf

Learning the “why” didn’t change me, but finding a community of others like me who I can share things with and learn from has been helpful.
