I used to pay for Gmail, then I used Proton Mail about a year, and I’ve been using Fastmail for the last couple of years, which I recommend. I don’t know of anything that’s as feature-rich and easy to use as Fastmail. You may not be interested in all those fancy features, though.

I use MacOS/iOS Mail clients, but also Thunderbird as I’m trying to wean myself off of Apple’s ecosystem and onto Linux/FOSS.

However, the U.S. and allied countries in Europe have largely continued to hold firm in their stance against Assad’s government, due to concerns over human rights violations.

How much thinner can this thin gruel get given their material support for the genocide of Palestinians? It’s homeopathically thin at this point.

… so Trump?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump wasn’t even in the loop. The US military-intelligence-propaganda-industrial complex does shenanigans like this on the regular. The deep state is real, it’s just not anything like what far-right grifters say it is.

not just the U.S.

This is of course true, but the massive scale of US interventionism compared to that of other countries can’t be papered over. The US has been the mob boss of the imperial core since the end of WWII.

We can’t even be assuaged by the idea that the U.S. government isn’t ‘allowed’ to run such campaigns on its own citizens

And yet it does, often in collusion with corporate media.

Russia is strong, but not nearly strong enough to “semi-replicate” what Nazi Germany did, not that it really matters since Russia has no interest in replicating it.

  2. By deletion, do you mean user deletion or mod/admin removal or both?

This would just further complicate things for me. It assumes that 1) the system even has a windowing system/desktop environment or 2) all the installed software is XDG-aware. Most of the time I’m fiddling with headless environments.

davel ,
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s even easier to ignore it altogether, which is what I do. I don’t use “a few” non-XDG-aware things; I use lots an lots of them.

davel ,
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

I meant the second. But as to the first: I generally write in-house software for headless server environments, and my peers are going to push back if I add irrelevant XDG foo to my PR.

Is there any real or serious conversation or work around the idea of a feature-full social media browser?

Basically something like a web browser but for “all the social media” along with useful organisation features too.

For locked down big social APIs, this makes less sense nowadays, but for open alt-social systems, it is likely the most valuable promise of such systems that they can become like the web, reachable through an awesome all-in-one app.

Intelligence has little to do with it. William F. Buckley Jr. wasn’t stupid.

National Review Is Trying to Rewrite Its Own Racist History

Buckley was a founder of the National Review and, in many respects, the modern conservative movement, who, Stevens wrote, was simply “a more articulate version of the same deep ugliness and bigotry that is the hallmark of Trumpism.”

The first step is to understand the media, which Media Bias/Fact Check and the Ad Fontes Media* are never going to teach you. The only people who are taught it are those who get degrees in marketing, public relations, political science, history, and journalism; and even then only some of them.

The new post-Trump/“post-truth” media literacy curricula won’t teach it to you either, because it was paid for and crafted by the US military-industrial complex: New Media Literacy Standards Aim to Combat ‘Truth Decay’.

This week, the RAND Corporation released a new set of media literacy standards designed to support schools in this task.

The standards are part of RAND’s ongoing project on “truth decay”: a phenomenon that RAND researchers describe as “the diminishing role that facts, data, and analysis play in our political and civic discourse.”

None of it is a secret, though, and it can be learned.

You strike me as someone who would have written a hit piece on Marx for profiting from British imperialism and his capitalist buddy Engels

I don’t why you’d have that impression, but you guessed wrong.

Can someone be a landlord and a communist at the same time?

<davel> It’s a red flag. At the highest level this boils down to whether that someone is consistently a traitor to their class.

In my estimation Engels was consistent.

How are you deciding I would think anything like that from what little you know about me? Very strange assumptions.

Is this a joke? The only reason the “free market” pretended to align with DEI in the first place was for regulations and public relations purposes. The capitalist class has never and will never give a fuck about DEI. You know that HR departments are not our friends, right? Their job is to execute the will of the capitalist class upon the working class.
