Yeah my friend got one, the URL was convincing and the USPS page is very convincing, it looks almost identical to the real site including load animations.

dan1101 ,

I didn’t but my normally smart friend did. They showed me the site and only realized it was fake from some minor detail.

dan1101 ,

If people would quit doing stuff there wouldn’t be so much news.

dan1101 ,

How is YouTube detecting adblockers? Wouldn’t it be with the information the user’s browser is already passing to them?

dan1101 ,

Maybe that wasn’t the best choice of names.

dan1101 ,

TLDR, not an Onion headline, just a test to see what Amazon will allow. A person came up with a “Release” brand drink, filled bottles with urine, successfully listed them on Amazon, but only shipped them to friends that ordered them. Other people ordered them too though, but were not sent the product.

Another example of a multi-billion dollar company that doesn’t curate their products/services. Costs too much money they would only profit 234 billion instead of 244 billion.

dan1101 ,

I hate to be callous, but when your own countrymen launch a large-scale killing and kidnapping spree on another country you’ve got to expect (increased) retaliation. It’s a shitstorm all around.

dan1101 ,

After yet after 75 years of Palestinians being attacked and imprisoned and abused I don’t know what Hamas expected as a response to this. Less attacks and imprisonment and abuse?

How did living in caves not backfire on cavemen?

I have a lot of indirect experience/knowledge with caves. I don’t have to be one of the people who directly explored one to know one of the first things one learns about caves is how ill-suited for wandering around they are. Slopes can change on a dime, it’s incredibly rocky inside, and they fill with whatever falls from the...

dan1101 ,

Caves can be safe, there are many different cave landscapes. Everything from tight squeezes to huge chambers the size of a football field. Some are big, some are small, some complex, some relatively straight and simple. There are many caves that have guided tours. They even have gatherings and weddings inside.

Price increases seem inevitable for any service where a company licenses content to stream to customers. GeForce Now is going to be in a constant cycle of content agreements expiring and creators wanting more money, that extra cost gets passed on to customers. Contrast that with just buying a game, buy it once and you’re done (generally.)

dan1101 ,

Ah I didn’t understand that. That’s almost worse though, that’s buying the game and then paying to play it.

dan1101 ,

Guess the cost tradeoff depends on how much you play and how updated you keep your PC. My PC can’t play Cyberpunk at 4k 120fps. You must have good Internet though.

dan1101 ,

Yes on the rare occasions I browse without ad blockers I see so much slimy deceptive crap. Curate your ads or don’t have ads.

dan1101 ,

If you enjoy getting the achievements and reach the point of frustration trying to get them, then yeah consult a guide. There’s nothing wrong with that.

When I’m enjoying a game and reach a dead-end like an impassible door that by rights with my huge arsenal I should be able to just break down, I have no problems “consulting the townspeople” to see what particular trick the game has in mind. Sometimes the trick makes sense, sometimes it’s something I would have never thought of and makes no sense. In that case I feel good that I didn’t let the game waste more of my time on it.

The evidence in the article suggests to me that it likely was not Israel. Has NPR shown a bias in the Israel/Palestine conflict? On one hand NPR is fairly liberal, on the other I’m sure it employs many Jews.

dan1101 ,

That’s probably because house and vehicle values have inflated so much.

dan1101 ,

Crappy phone photo to the rescue! Can’t stop that.

Wildlands is still a great game. It is set in 2019 Bolivia, you work to take down cartels one region at a time. It’s fun both singleplayer and co-op for up to 4 players.

Breakpoint is set on some semi-futuristic Elon Musk type fantasy technology island with drones driving and flying around. The map itself is large and varied, it seems like a South Pacific type environment. Breakpoint initially did a lot of things worse than Wildlands, such as not having AI squadmates and needing to level up your weapons. But since then the game has been updated with a lot of options to fix almost everything, and even add a lot more content. It’s a lot to get used to but ultimately still a lot of fun.

But first play Wildlands, it is fun right away, and more realistic overall.

When you’re developing a site you have to decide whether to have a completely separate site for mobile (which is generally twice as much work for future site updates) or try to make one layout that adapts to both desktop and mobile (which tends to favor one or the other.)

dan1101 ,

Exactly. My ideal game would be a mix of Elite Dangerous, X4 Foundations, and Starfield. ED has the galaxy map, flight model, and combat down. It just needs to be more of a game.

dan1101 ,

I never thought of that, but it would be so much fun.

dan1101 ,

39% wow. Yeah lots of free games and Humble Bundles.

dan1101 ,

Is what any good? Humble Bundle? I don’t know, I quit buying them years ago because I didn’t play enough. Same thing with PC Game Pass.

dan1101 ,

I just wishlist games on Steam and Isthereanydeal.com and wait for sales. In the long run often games will be given away for free before I buy them.

*Broken largely by obstructionist republicans and corporations.

dan1101 ,

As part of that offer Hamas also wanted all Palestinian prisoners released, so that makes a deal a lot less likely.

dan1101 ,

They’re also asking that “Israel must release all Palestinians held in Israeli jails.” I’m guessing that is very unlikely.

dan1101 ,

I kinda doubt the thieves are very picky.

It’s atmospheric and good, but player choice during many missions is lacking. Choices often boil down to “Yes” or “Not yet.” But you’ll go the way the mission wants you to go or you won’t finish it.

dan1101 ,

TIL I would like to date Hillary Duff.

dan1101 ,

I think since his early Life in Hell comics he just has had a keen satirical and critical mind and sees how often life is stranger than fiction.

dan1101 ,

That’s like suggesting Biden is the dad and Israel and Palestine are misbehaving children. Maybe they would be a little better with the US watching, but not much as history has repeatedly shown.

dan1101 ,

This isn’t always a good thing, like most “morning zoo” shows.

dan1101 ,

I got sent to the principals office for making a copy of an Apple II system diskette.

dan1101 , (edited )

I was a bit before that, my group of friends liberally shared 5 1/4" floppies with C64 games on them. I also remember a demo being passed around where someone (not one of my friends) managed to encode about 10 scratchy seconds of “Why can’t this be love?” by Van Halen onto a 360K floppy disk and it was amazing at the time.

Egyptian queen tomb discovery yields sealed jars of wine from 5,000 years ago, plus 'exciting information' (www.foxnews.com)

Scientists have discovered sealed jars of wine from 5,000 years ago in an Egyptian queen’s tomb. The find, one of the oldest ever, was among the “grave goods” for Queen Meret-Neith in Abydos, from 3,000 BC, according to SWNS, the British news service.

Same, my feet are always warm or hot, I walk around all winter on hardwood floors with no socks.

This fast food order kiosk accepts cash (mander.xyz)

All the McD*nalds in my area have been upgraded with order kiosks. Regardless of all the controversy around self-checkout, and minimum wage, and automation taking our jobs, I personally love them. I can take my sweet time composing my order, I can see the full selection (such as it is), I can see pictures and prices clearly...

Out of all the positions at fast food restaurants, cashier seems to most appealing to me.

Rental online prices of old movies are too high.

To rent a movie from 2005, I need to pay 4 euros. A standard with ads Netflix subscription is 5 euros or lowest tier without ads 8 euros (so 1,25x or 2x the price for unlimited access). I’ve encountered this multiple times. I’d be open to paying, but it just doesn’t add up for me. So what do I do? Sail the seven seas....

dan1101 ,

They can get a lot of $1 or $2 rentals from me, or nothing. Guess they get nothing.
