A surge of illegal homemade machine guns has helped fuel gun violence in the US (apnews.com)

Communities around the U.S. have seen shootings carried out with weapons converted to fully automatic in recent years, fueled by a staggering increase in small pieces of metal or plastic made with a 3D printer or ordered online. Laws against machine guns date back to the bloody violence of Prohibition-era gangsters. But the...

If I was told correct info I think even the armed forces dont like full auto outside of specific use cases like mounted guns with hundreds to thousnads of rounds in boxes and for supressing fired from rifles with detachable mags. If you really wanted to mow through a crowd for some ungodly reason a semi auto (not pump) shotgun with buckshot shells and a detachable mag would work as well as full auto rifle in an intermediate cartridge.

Comprehensive mental healthcare would work to alleviate so many problems from homelessness to things like this. I can tell you from expirence in the field that unhoused people + housing + mental healthcare = someone who’s very likely to never be homeless again. There are countless other problems this would help too. In a country where everything needs fixing, it would be a great start.

Bold move. Who are they going to blame all the online privacy issues once they cant yell about the Chinese? Or are we going to start pretending everythings fine then?

Replacing critically deficient infrastructure has been declared a progressive issue in todays overton window. So no chance places like Texas do it.

A question about debating.

If two people agree to a debate, but one of them participates in bad faith, and spends the majority of the time talking over the other, sidestepping virtually every point their counterpart makes, blatantly lies, employs personal insults and frequently airs irrelevant grievances, is it still considered a debate?

agitatedpotato ,

If I was the good faith party I’d prepare with a list of inflamatory but true claims on the bad faith party and any time they try to sidestep, throw the accusations at them and force them to go on the defensive instead of giving them a platform to try and legitimize their bullshit. If you’re talking about what everyone thinks you are, theres no ‘rising above’ it, you gotta attack it.

Journalists have two duties these days. Make stories out of some Twitter users, and repeat police press releases verbatim without doing their own research. This is the second one, but with a countries propaganda organization instead of just the police.

SpaceX allegedly fostered serial sexual abuse, according to this lawsuit (www.theverge.com)

A SpaceX employee says that she spent seven years working at the company’s headquarters in Hawthorne, California enduring sexual abuse, unequal pay, discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation, in a new lawsuit against the company. But her story paints a much graver picture than those individual words can convey,...

Freeways aren’t obligated to cater to pedestrians. Workplaces are obligated to foster safe environments for all employees. You can think what you want of things connected to musk but it still SpaceX’s fault at the end of the day.

Biden wouldn’t have the balls to so much as j walk even with immunity.

It’s funny you think this ruling will stop fascist states from kicking non republicans off the ballots. Lets look at gerymandering. States submit illegal maps, play the waiting game, courts decide they’re illegal, states run illegal districts anyway because its too close to the election.

I’m familiar with a CO and the classes of trainees are getting dramatically smaller. The pay he gets is amazing but few are lining up for the work, so when it comes time to hire, even Prisons looking for good people will strugle to find them, and they’re not all looking for good people. I hear stories of how good COs end up being a real thorn in the side of administration. There are layers and layers of problems going on with prisons, it can be very disheartening.

How to make a profit from guy buy backs in a few easy setps. So long as you can demonstrate it firing, you will be paid out. Ive seen even more cost effective pipe shotgun builds. You’ll probably walk away with more than enough for a nice new shotgun.

Fake Ukrainian Assassination Attempt on Tucker Carlson Hits Millions on X via Russian Disinfo Laundering Scheme (www.polygraph.info)

Even when confronted with the truth, millions have the anger and fear permanently imprinted on their minds. That’s why Putin’s psyops war fare is so incredibly effective, particularly against the poorly educated.

The lemmy community shows itself bare when you start talking about something you have professional experience in. Its hilarious, in a humor in despair type of way. I’ve seen it on stuff im expirenced in and this is not the first time I’ve talked about how the community dissapoints me about it. Skepticism is fine and welcome . . . If you’re able to change your mind when you’re wrong.

Consumers having rights doesn’t change the type of economic system. You could have consumer rights under feudalism and that would still be feudalism. The right to mend you own fence wouldn’t make your feudal lord any less of your feudal lord. Heck and that example is even a worker right not a consumer one.

agitatedpotato ,

It can be due to both, no need to expect the market is reacting in a appropriate and not overblown way.

agitatedpotato ,

For real, quotes like this tell me rich people feel way to comfortable.

Isn’t one of the benefits of drones that this is a non story? Go ahead, no ones up there, best place to almost make a mistake. The pentagon can’t pass an audit and is basically given unlimited funds, diplomacy wasn’t exactly at risk here.

agitatedpotato ,

The AIs dont want anything themselves and those who make the decisions about them want the most profit, what costs more, verifying training data or AI incest?

agitatedpotato ,

Hilariously short sighted. What are they gonna train the AI on? All the drone strikes where they didn’t hit any bystanders? I think they’re gonna need more than the 15 or so data points that gets us.

agitatedpotato ,

It’s a good reminder that they don’t listen to their constituents unless their hold on power is threatened, it’s no coincidence this happens around the Michigan primary. Just like how Pelosi was content to cast all Palestine support as Russian interference, they’d rather craft a narative and have the media push it than reckon with their own mistakes.

agitatedpotato ,

The difference between liberals and the left is the stance on capitalism. Liberals believe they can make capitalism work, leftists insist we must move beyond it. The people obfuscating liberal and leftist are the people who want the discussion of moving past capitalism to stop. Don’t help them.

agitatedpotato ,

You’ve chosen a definition thats dependent on where you percieve ‘center’ to be. Its a variable point therefore to you that word doesn’t have a fixed meaning. A European centerist is an American left leaner, a decade ago the american ‘left’ was talking about UBI and medicade for all, now they’re talking about fixing bridges that are about to fall down. You’re either blind to the overton window shifting or happy that things like infrastructure upkeep is now considered ‘leftism’ but despite your best efforts, words still have meaning. You’re one of the people trying to obfuscate those meanings.

agitatedpotato ,

Nice buzzword, but it’s not me gatekeeping anything. Thats what leftism has meant since the phrase neoliberalism has existed. Im not the one who made the definition, you’re just ignoring it.

agitatedpotato ,

If words mean only what people think they mean then according to near or more than half the country Biden is in fact a communist. Words have meaning, Biden isn’t a Communist and liberalism and leftism are different things.

It’s No Surprise That “Skills-Based” Hiring Has Not Worked (www-forbes-com.cdn.ampproject.org)

This article outlines an opinion that organizations either tried skills based hiring and reverted to degree required hiring because it was warranted, or they didn’t adapt their process in spite of executive vision....

agitatedpotato ,

Why do you need a degree just to be told by the accountant and c suite employees that you’re codes safety festures are taking to long so shelf them?

agitatedpotato ,

Thank fucking god. Imagine the kind of monetization that would exist inside an Apple car. You think subscription seatwarmers are bad, and they are, but I can guarantee Apple had much worse in mind, and that most companies would simply follow suit.

agitatedpotato ,

Ahh yes, not all the kids died, therefore emergencies don’t happen. Okay then.

They will, after everyone tells them how much they hate this, they’ll ‘backtrack’ to higher pricing. They’re letting their first idea eat the hate and resistance so they can execute plan B.

That’s probably why they’re so insistent on going in despite any ceasefire. In the IDFs opinion too many Palestinians are still getting things like food and water.

Rest in Power. I pray we can somehow ensure your actions aren’t in vain.

‘Hey you’re not a lawmaker you can’t do that!’

So Biden vetoing ceasefires and giveing them time to punish the collective Palestinian people before drawing up his own Isreal favored ceasefire was useless. Didn’t see that coming /s

You should assume theres intillegence plants in basically every legacy media outlet, and a good portion of newer ones. The US is the most propagandized country in the world.

Do you have retirement funds set aside an invested? If not, setting up or managing your own retirement account could be a good primer.

agitatedpotato ,

They only let us play when they dont think we can effect them. Once our money gets in the way of their money, we see how the rich people have protections the government doesn’t even offer to itself.

agitatedpotato ,

Well they cant be half children. Theyre either kids or not, Id claim them all and if they audit it, then it FORCES the government to involve themselves and set a precedent. If it’s a life, its certainly dependent on the clinic, claim them. Also if they’re truly considered lives, they are inherently entitled to all the rights the US offers living humans. A state tax bill can’t negate that, only dropping the clasification of being a living being can.

agitatedpotato ,

And now there’s precedent on how that’s not legal. I still think its a worthwile challenge.

agitatedpotato ,

Lool and the people who say that shit about Biden think blue maga isnt a thing. Seems pretty apt when Biden voters say shit like that.
