How will Matt Gaetz find his next partner though?

agitatedpotato ,

Y’all are getting dopamine from your screens?

agitatedpotato ,

That’s different than people asking for them. Between status symbols and advertising you can sell anything, weather it was asked for or not. On a real level the whole industry of advertising is to get people to buy things they wouldn’t buy otherwise.

agitatedpotato ,

Anyone whos been following this issue on Lemmy knows that dudes name, and not for good reasons. I guess every village needs an idiot.

agitatedpotato ,

Companies are smarter than to leave paper trails of things like retaliation or manipulation of employees for taking days off. Not saying it was actually happening, but if it was I wouldn’t expect there to be hard evidence anyway. The learned from having to fight Unions in court.

Oh boy, wait until you hear about this type of animal called omnivores. They can survive off vegtable but they still hunt and eat meat because obviously they’re evil strange and un-natural.

It has some features Id love to see on ActivityPub like account migration between servers, and people are already working on bridges between the protocols so it will basically be able to federate, at least with mastodon. I was also skeptical but if they keep it open source and let it play nice with AP protocall I wont be mad at it. Sure I’d prefer them pushing AP further than doing their own thing but for whatever reason I’m willing to give more benefit of the doubt to them than a service like threads.

agitatedpotato ,

Theres a group of devs that have been working on a bridge between the protocols I found out about while digging for info about Bluesky.

I like it better when there was talk of a railroad workers strike and Buffet shut the fuck up because he knew where his moneu comes from and what that would do to this fake image he’s fostered. Who’s gotta strike to make him shut up this time?

agitatedpotato ,

Its Peter Thiel suggesting this, so for him it’s exactly just bumfights.

agitatedpotato ,

Only if they try to enter the US.

agitatedpotato ,

Yes, they voted in an authorstarian after being subject to some of the worse violence rates in the world, do you have any idea about whats going on at the US Southern border? Because one of those places has and has been for years now utilizing detention camps. Which is why it’s funny you bring up detention camps when talking about them.

Hispanic Caucus urges new direction in immigration talks (thehill.com)

The CHC’s Tuesday proposals also come as the group has been purposefully excluded from Senate negotiations on border policy, which reportedly have centered on ways to curtail asylum and further fortify the border without addressing calls to overhaul the legal immigration system and appeals to give longtime undocumented...

Oh so its gonna pass because it’s bipartisan?

So it sounds like you’re agreeing it’s not gonna pass, so why should they be bipartisan with the bill if it doesn’t move the needle?

WHO chief warns 'future generations may not forgive us' if pandemic treaty not agreed upon: 'There will be a next time' (fortune.com)

Future generations may not forgive the World Health Organization’s member nations, should they fail to agree on a pandemic treaty, the organization’s chief said Saturday at the Warwick Economic Summit, calling the agreement “mission critical for humanity.”...

Im a current generation and I already don’t forgive you.

I like how Jewish people are digging tunnels in New York and trying to physically stop officers from going in them, but then also call a different religous group in a different city extremeists. Thats some shakey ground to stand on, and not just because someone dug underneath it.

That was my first thought too, anyone with a condition with a sensory component is inherently discriminated against.

With an army as petty and retaliatory as that you don’t need to wonder for long why Hamas does what they do.

agitatedpotato ,

The IDF made the excuse, I can simply understand why Hamas uses it. They need each-other to stay in power and they know that.

agitatedpotato ,

They’re gonna hate me for this one but arm yourself and train. Lets take a hypothetical to the endgame, lets say there are nazi style brownshirts roaming the streets in 10 years time, do you think it would be better to be unarmed with strong gun control, or like me do you think at least half of the roughly 400 million guns that already are here would end up in the brownshirts hands anyway?

agitatedpotato ,

Telling the truth hurts those who already have money and power. Fascism enriches those who already have money and power so long as they keep doing what the government says. We will very soon have to reckon with the fact that fascism is great for buisness and the economy and the US is not ready to say no to that.

A Vermont mom called police to talk to her son about stealing. He ended up handcuffed and sedated (apnews.com)

What happened next that evening in May 2021 is the basis for a lawsuit by the mother alleging that Burlington police used excessive force and discriminated against her unarmed son, who is Black and has behavioral and intellectual disabilities....

Everything looks like a horse?

Even if they didn’t if ‘lack of advanced fighter jets’ gonna be the reason you’re not going to oppose your own government if it went fascist then there’s a name for people like that. It’s just fascist.

Oh thats hilarious, did they take notes from the Biden impeachment movement?

If VI Lenin was alive I’d write him in. Especially since Stalin isn’t, so he can’t repeat his worst mistake.

Wider war sound real pofitable for the largest political donors, so we’re fucked. No candidate from the current establishments will challenge them.

agitatedpotato ,

I suppose better than nothing but ‘better than nothing’ is a low fuckin bar for intervention in ongoing genocide. Unless there’s reprecussions on the state of Israel, who condones and empowers settelers, this seems like sanctioning the Houthis while simultaneously arming Iran.

agitatedpotato ,

Sure, you’re not wrong, but I’m really really tired of getting ‘it’s a start’ action on issues like this and the irreversible change of the climate. There’s a very real timer ticking on both these issues if nothing changes and based on history I’m really skeptical were getting anything but another ‘its a start’ on some other small facet of this issue, ad nauseam until it’s not an election year.

Gen Z boys and men more likely than baby boomers to believe feminism harmful, says poll (www.theguardian.com)

Boys and men from generation Z are more likely than older baby boomers to believe that feminism has done more harm than good, according to research that shows a “real risk of fractious division among this coming generation”....

agitatedpotato ,

People in politics are painting infrastructure bills as progressive these days, so feminism is one of those leftisms just like repaving roads and fixing bridges that are years out of spec. The overton window must be the window on a plane because it wont stop moving.

agitatedpotato ,

Ive been using the vaft script permalink with no issues, as recently as last night.

agitatedpotato ,

And they voted for it in droves.

agitatedpotato ,

It’s always they’re not a monolith and true enough but if a literal vote doesn’t represent the overall will of the group then that’s implying thay democracy doesn’t work. If most of them voted for this then thats what most of them wanted. We have exit polls and data on this, it’s not as if anyone’s attributing to a group characteristics that only a few of them have, it’s the clear majority, year over year.

agitatedpotato , (edited )

It’s being applied to me now. Every thread talking about millennials political preferences top comment is always ‘then they should actually vote’ despite the fact that I havent missed an election. The least we can do is keep the same consistency here. Im not here to coddle boomers and treat them in higher regard than how we get treated. You get what you give and the majority of boomers are also getting exactly what they voted for. Must be nice, that’s not a luxury my generation has.

Also whos being condemed? Are you suggesting honoring the democratic outcome of a vote of a group is condeming them? If so then who exactly did the condeming? No one says I’m being condemed when I have to live with shit I didn’t vote for, the comparison is ridiculous.

Just here to remind everyone while piracy is important, it’s also very important to teach the less tech savy among your acquaintances how to pirate too. Conglomerates only learn when their bottom line is effected after all, so teach all your friends how to hoist that black flag.

Piracy is voting with your wallet.

Amazon moved a distribution center near me and now I basically get what prime delivery used to get me without prime. I can still get free shipping so long as my cart total is high enough, and I think that will remain because even independent retail websites and shippers offer that, so Amazon doesn’t want to give people more reason to use them less. Getting rid of prime was easier than soooooo much other stuff I’ve ditched.

agitatedpotato ,

They constantly deliver ahead of schedule for me and I assume it’s exactly because of what you said. They can deprioritize non prime shipments but at some point it just doesn’t make sense, and infact costs money to not move it. Why spend wearhouse space on already sold goods when you could fill that space with things that can make you money you haven’t received yet.

agitatedpotato ,

What do PPP loan takers have to do with this conversation though?

agitatedpotato ,

Sure, but something wild like 65% (and I think thats one of the lower figures) of all PPP money went to things other than what it was supposed to be for. They still forgave something like 75% of all of them. Imagine if half of all students used student loans to buy a Lamborghini, then they forgave more than half of all student borrowers. Wildly different rules for Americas ruling class. No big political or media push around the PPP loan forgiveness either which is strange, almost like the student loan forgiveness uproar is media fabrication to protect the SLABS that rich investors hold. Im sure few would be mad about loan forgiveness if all of the loan went to the employees paychecks during covid instead of the employers bankroll.

agitatedpotato ,

Or all of the food in the USA. Imagine all agra subsidies stopped. Probably a bigger deal than a EV market disruption.

agitatedpotato ,

Again, I see bodyshaming happening here, thats not an imagined enemy unless you dont know what words mean. You’re talking over me now and ignoreing what im saying, this being the third time I’m telling you it happens here so you can pretend im talking about no one. Stop with the intelectual dishonesty.

What I am doing is poiting out a similar punishment people do for bodyshaming, and for the fourth time, it happens on this very website. That makes it relevant no matter how mad you are about that. You wont even ask me about the original post after I told you to instead of assuming because then you won’t be able to pretend im attacking anyone other that the hypocrites, who again exist on this site. Did I say it enough this time?

agitatedpotato , (edited )

lemm.ee/comment/8694192

Gee look at that, when it’s someone detestable, no one even cares. I was looking for one I saw about a week ago where someone called them out for bodyshaming and got downvoted for it. Ill keep going, im sure theres more. On this site Bodyshaming gets you upvoted though. Gee if only someone tried to bring this up, im sure they’d be met with open dialogue and not baseless accusations and being talked over. Stay posted, I’ll get more.

lemmy.world/comment/6998701

Glad this comment finally got out if the negatives but they’re drowned out in number and number of votes by people insisting that insulting his disability is okay. Lemmy has a real problem with this, and assuming all of them also support misgegendering is short sighted, untrue, and unhelpful. Im sure user ‘progressiveist’ is a big time misgenderer though because that makes sense.

agitatedpotato ,

I miss the days when politicians weren’t afraid to do political things. These days they can’t even pass bills.

agitatedpotato ,

So if his sentence is altered by possible violence, ie ‘keep the peace’ then that means terrorism works on the government. File that one away for later, could come in handy.
