I think prison time is even more important in this case because of his long history of criminal activity as well as his complete lack of remorse for everything he’s convicted of, and the dog-whistle comments he’s made in public that clearly and objectively are meant as thinly-veiled instructions to the insurrectionists that support him to commit more violence on his behalf.
Anyone who expects to be in a position of power like President of the United States must be held to a higher standard than everyone else.
He better at least get house arrest. I can see the logistics issue of the SS trying to keep him safe in prison even though he deserves to get the maximum time IMO.
it’s not like this isn’t the obvious end point (collapse) for any society run by greed and selfishness. continually dousing the statues of ancient Greece in acid will erode them just as surely as ceaseless corporate lobbying and the systematic removal of those who would stand for principles over profit has eroded the system we built on the greek model.
And like everything with our incredibly stupid system it will end up being some bullshit that Congress needs to investigate itself over so they can find they “did no wrong”…
Do it. Give him jail time. Because when it comes to politicians we need to hammer in a lesson: not only could it happen to anyone, but it it should happen to almost everyone. They’ll need to be held universally accountable for crimes (for a change), regardless of political party.
I worry about Republicans taking power and using the trump trials as an excuse to put together kangaroo courts in places like Texas and Florida to actually do the sorts of politically based prosecutions that they’re whining about now. That should never be a reason to not uphold the law though. We cannot let ourselves be held hostage by what bad actors might do in the future.
They already have said that’s the plan. They want to go after Biden and his family, Obama (they can’t fucking get over that guy…) and whoever else was a part of any investigation of Republicans.
Turn on fox news and watch the fucking propagandists go from practically in tears talking about trump, to literally frothing rage ranting about how all Democrats need to be jailed…
What do you think the Hunter Biden trial is really all about? What he did was going to be given a plea deal and it was all ready to go then they scrapped it and went ahead with prosecuting him. They can’t find anything to impeach or prosecute Joe Biden over, so they went after his son instead. Meanwhile they cry and scream and yell about how all 91 indictments against Trump are “”“politically motivated”“” and therefore invalid.
The BEST situation would be for the judge to say prison for a first offender is inappropriate. And then sentence the Mango Mussolini to 1000 hours of community service in which he’d pick up trash along the highway etc. And begin the 1000 hours in September.
He would absolutely not be in a jumpsuit on the side of the road doing community service. He would be assigned 1000 hours and then “work” with a charity putting his “skills” to use.
I’m speaking from experience. I had 120 hrs of community service and I did computer work for a well known charity.
Don’t put him on a highway chain gang, that gives him too much public exposure. His fanboys will basically flood that place, making the security of the guards a nightmare. Put him in a nice place where he can assemble, clean, or pack something without access to the crowds.
I wonder what the GOP take on Hunter’s trial is going to be? I’m going to go out on a limb and say, if convicted they will praise it, while at the same time saying Biden has the DOJ weaponized against Trump. If Trump’s DOJ hadn’t shut down all investigations into his crimes I’m sure his Federal ones would have started while he was still in office. He also wouldn’t have had to rush to announce his running to make his cases “political” even though nothing states he can’t be held accountable and campaign at the same time. Running alone shouldn’t be treated as some shield to prosecution as it is due to everyone afraid of looking “political” and feeding right into the crazy arguments from criminals.
Despite the fact that the DOJ has nothing to do with the NY case. And the rest of the cases that the DOJ are apart of have been utterly stalled. If Biden directed all this, he’s sure done a shit job of it.
As much as I wish he would land in jail, I doubt that will be the actual outcome. I bet the republican talking heads know it too, but they can’t resist cashing in on the fear of it to fire up their bases.
I enjoy watching the late night monologues the morning after broadcast. All of them played a supercut of him saying “lock her up” after that interview.
