Do people just not use the YouTube subscription feed?
I consistently hear people on YouTube complain that the subscribe button doesn’t do anything for viewers, now that channel notifications are controlled by the bell. But it does do something: it puts the videos from that channel in your subscription feed, which is readily accessible on all versions of YouTube. So why do people...

r/selfhosted is still rising, WTF? Come to Lemmy!!!
Hi all! I used to be a daily r/selfhosted lurker and a bit active user. Since the Reddit saga I thought that r/selfhosted would be one of the first and bigger community to move to Lemmy due to the IT knowledge of all of their users and the sensitivity about self host/privacy/open source, but I see that not only the community is...

Devs Announce Faceit Anticheat for BattleBit will be compatible with Linux, Steam Deck (i.postimg.cc)
Got this from a post on the alien site. From previous discussion on Lemmy it sounded like Linux users had good things to say about this game but were discouraged about the upcoming FaceIt implementation such that they wouldn’t be able to join anticheat enabled matches. Those users and Linux gamers on the fence would probably...

Mastodon has hit 2 million active users today! (lemm.ee)
What are up votes (uplemmies?) actually for?
Obviously, most social networks have some sort of engagement button for liking/up voting/promoting a piece of content. As well as helping users feel like they’re participating, rather than just passively consuming, most networks also use the likes/ups to filter or promote content to other users....

ACE Hits Hundreds of Pirate Streaming Sites By Shutting Down 2Embed - TorrentFreak (torrentfreak.com)
Bad news for many pirate streaming sites using that API endpoint. Copycat libraries for 2Embed are out there, so they may recover if the site owners bother to switch.

YSK: Commas can be used in phone numbers to automatically input automated menu options
For instance, I’m on Jury Duty in the US this week. Kinda a freebie but I still have to call in and input my “ID” number, birthday, and zip code before entering phone tree options to hear my summons status. So I saved a contact in my phone for the jury hotline with the main number, my Id number, birthday, zip code, and...

Warez: Do you pirate software or just use FOSS?
In the past, most software I used was paid and proprietary and would have some sort of limitation that I would try to get around by any means possible. Sometimes that would be resetting the clock on my computer, disabling the internet, and other times downloading a patch....
