I just checked the bottle in my fridge and the only ingredient is “Pure maple syrup”.

The problem is that a lot of people will just snatch up a $3 bottle of Aunt Jemima—or whatever the hell they call it now—and call it a day. But if you’re not a cheapass, chances are that the maple syrup in your fridge is real (if you paid $10 or more for that bottle then it’s definitely real).

Like the other person said, it’s illegal in the US to label corn syrup as maple syrup. So they’ll usually call it “pancake syrup” or some sus bullshit like that. Pretty easy to spot the difference unless you’re just not paying attention.

Psythik ,

TIL that FreeBSD is an OS and not just another Distro.

Psythik ,

Because HDR is fucking amazing? Games really come to life with bright and vibrant colors.

I want to switch to Linux eventually xbut won’t until it not only has full HDR support, but can also convert SDR games to HDR like Windows 11 can.

Psythik ,

Cause they’re always on their phones so they literally never have to BRB. The few of them who still use computers will just open Discord on their phones and continue the conversation if they have to step away from the keyboard for any reason.

Psythik , (edited )

Thanks for censoring the penis. Nobody needs to see baby dick for any reason ever.

Psythik ,

Set your DNS servers to dns.adguard-dns.com (Settings > search for DNS). Also you should install the DDG app and enable App Tracking Protection. You don’t actually have to use the browser portion of the app for it to work. After doing these two things, ads and trackers will be blocked in every app.

Psythik ,

Maybe you should actually read the article first before commenting.

Psythik ,

Yeah seriously the only two categories I have are favorites (games that are installed), and everything else (games that aren’t installed).

Psythik ,

Yes but where is the $300k coming from if they’re losing $90.8m a year? How can they afford to stay in business? Before they went public, who was foolish enough to invest in a company that has never turned a profit? The money doesn’t just come out of thin air. Someone has to be giving it to him.

If I was rich and started a company that lost $90.8m a year, I’d shut down after less than a year before I went broke and homeless. How can a company that never turns a profit make enough money to pay any employee, let alone the CEO?

Psythik ,

The frozen ones just don’t hit the same unless you deep fry them.

Psythik ,

They don’t want to ban recipes for hash browns. They want to ban that Chinese spyware of an app. Read their TOS. It’s one of the worst I’ve ever seen in terms of collecting any and every piece of data on you that they’re able to.

I wish politicians would focus on writing proper digital privacy laws instead, but I’ll take what I can get. Hopefully banning TikTok will open the floodgates towards building a safer, more private web for everyone.

Psythik ,

Do it on your cheat day, then. Or at the very least, sprinkle some olive oil on it and stick it in the air fryer or toaster oven on the convection setting. Toaster hash browns are bland and sad. You need to put a little flavor into your life, otherwise what’s the point of living?

Psythik ,

No you’re not, your franchise owner is. They do all the hard work, and all you gotta do is sit back and collect your profit, and make sure the the ice cream machine keeps breaking.

Psythik ,

If you use the DuckDuckGo app and enable App Tracking Protection, it severely limits the amount of data apps can collect on you.

Go get that free burger, king.

Psythik ,

I once saw a video of a farmer killing two cows. The second one saw what happened to the first, looked directly at the farmer, closed its eyes, and just accepted its fate. Didn’t freak out nor try to flee.

It knew. It fucking knew. Fucked me up so badly.

(And no I don’t have a link cause this was about 5-10 years ago. Not that I’d want to share it anyway cause I’m not trying to inflict the same trauma I went through on someone else.)

Psythik ,

If you think that’s fucked up, don’t look up how meat is made kosher.

Psythik ,

Yes and I feel bad for laughing when I saw it.

Poor horny bastard.

Psythik ,

Bruh

Psythik ,

Rifle with a scope. IDK what kind cause I’m not really into guns. An AR-15 IIRC.

Psythik ,

I get your point, but come on, my dude. The way you said it makes you sound like an out of touch vegan. Which I’m not against but I need protein to survive. So until lab grown meat becomes a thing – or food scientists figure out a way to make beans taste good (can’t stand them) – I’m going to have to continue eating meat.

Psythik ,

True, but I think the main point of plain packaging is to prevent people from becoming smokers to begin with.

Psythik ,

It was/is extremely easy to bypass. All you have to do is disable Javascript, or what 13-year-old me used to back in the day was spam the right-click button and the menu would pop up before the script could stop you.

Psythik ,

For me it’s the XP scrollbars that do it for me, cause I was sick and tired of the BSoDs I got during the Win9x era (especially in WinMe). I couldn’t wait to get a PC with the newer OS as a teen. It was considerably more stable for me (especially after SP2).

Psythik ,

Okay next question: who is Kate Middleton?

Psythik ,

I honestly don’t care enough to look them up. It was easier to just leave a comment.

Psythik ,

It’s actually dns.adguard-dns.com now. I have no idea why they changed it.

Psythik ,

I’ve been using an OLED as my primary monitor every day for three years now; the burn-in issues are greatly exaggerated. Not a single sign of burn-in, and I even disabled some of the protective features in the service menu to get a brighter picture. Modern panels are very good at mitigating the issue.

Psythik ,

The first thing that came to mind when AI language models first hit the scene is how it could be used to make NPCs so much better.

I’m picturing games where you talk to them through the mic and they actually respond with a relevant reply. You could still do prerecorded lines, but being able to respond to what they’re saying with anything you want – even things the developers didn’t intend – would go a long way towards feeling less like playing a game and more like being immersed in another world. Can’t wait for someone to actually implement this in a game.

Psythik ,

Same except I still need to fill a void. So now I find myself browsing imgur and YouTube more than ever, and neither is any better than reddit. I may have a serious problem.

Psythik ,

You should have probably mirrored the image or positioned the speech bubbles better.

Psythik ,

Budget audiophile here: I wear Superlux HD681 semi-open back cans paired with a Creative G6 DAC/amp.

The headphones are $25 but have the the most realistic soundstage I’ve ever heard in a pair of cans, even better than $500+ ones. Pinna activation is almost perfect; feels more like being surrounded by speakers than wearing headphones. Makes them amazing for gaming and movies, but not the best for music due to harsh siblants in the 12kHz range, which I’ve managed to EQ out a bit using Equalizer APO. Nice neutral sound otherwise, mids are almost perfectly flat and bass is tight—yet full—extending well below 20hz. Honestly you can’t do better without spending half a grand or more.

Psythik ,

You should give ReVanced Extended a try. My biggest complaint about YT Music is that plays music videos with long intros, but with YT Music RVX you can have SponsorBlock and skip non-music parts automatically.

Psythik ,

Before The Sims, I used to play with this program that was meant for architects designing homes, but 9-year-old me treated it like a game. It had a ray tracing button that when pressed, would render a ray-traced view of the room you were in.

It took at least a couple of minutes on my dad’s Windows 95 PC to render a single frame, and if you moved the camera at all, the view would switch back to raster and you had to re-render the scene all over again. But it was real ray tracing, performed on the CPU, in the 90s.

Psythik ,

Well of course they didn’t. Who wants to pay $100k to keep it confidential? Leak it and you save yourself six figures.

Linux market share passes 4% for first time (arstechnica.com)

We see the nearly 33-year-old OS’s market share growing 31.3 percent from June 2023, when we last reported on Linux market share, to February. Since June, Linux usage has mostly increased gradually. Overall, there’s been a big leap in usage compared to five years ago. In February 2019, Linux was reportedly on 1.58 percent of...

Such as? I love Windows 11 for Auto HDR alone. I never have to think about HDR at all in 11. It just works. In 10 the implementation was wonky at best. It often made things look worse so I literally never used it. Can’t wait for the dedicated Copilot key as well. 'Bout time they retired the useless Menu key. I don’t know of any Linux distro that integrates AI with the OS… Do you? Cause I’m still willing to switch so long as it has AI and a proper HDR implementation.

Psythik ,

That’s it? Wow, a lot fewer people were upset about the loss of 3rd party apps than I thought. We need to add at least 3 more zeroes to that number if this place stands a chance at taking down reddit.

Psythik ,

Agree to disagree. I miss having niche communities, and the only way to get them is with a large user base.

Psythik ,

Then most people need get a better ISP. My crappy $60/mo fixed 5G can download an entire 4K film in under 10 minutes or start streaming it within a second. Y’all should see if there are any options beyond cable and DSL in your town. You might be pleasantly surprised what’s available these days.

Psythik ,

I use Stremio and only stream full 4K Blu Ray rips, with HDR and Dolby Atmos and all. So nothing is recompressed. 50-70GB files but it starts streaming almost instantly.

I have a poor 5G signal due to a tree that’s blocking my view of the antenna, so I get anywhere between 400Mbps and 1400Mbps (I’m supposed to get a gigabit but it’s usually closer to 500). Even with a poor signal it’s still way faster than any other ISP in my town.

Late Actor Matthew Perry's Twitter Hacked: Fake Charity Plea Targets Fans with Cryptocurrency Scam (www.bitdefender.com)

Scammers hacked the late actor Matthew Perry’s Twitter account and posted a fake plea for cryptocurrency donations in the name of his foundation. The foundation confirmed the post was a scam and urged people not to donate....

The fact that people are still saying things like this about crypto—even after ETF approval—is proof that it’s still early. By the time the average person realizes what’s been going on with Bitcoin, it’ll be too late for you.

I’ve already tripled my initial investment from a year ago, and we’re just only getting started.

Psythik ,

Then invest in ETH instead. It uses proof of stake instead of proof of work.

Psythik ,

Well obviously. Why bother elsewise?

Psythik ,

That’s why I don’t buy ETFs. Never said I did. Keep it all in a hardware wallet, only leaving enough on an exchange for day-to-day transactions.

Psythik ,

None whatsoever. I’m staking ETH right now. It’s free money.

Psythik ,

The rips I pirate aren’t re-encoded and are usually in the range of 50-75GB, depending on the length of the film.
