Psythik ,

I was so upset when Hyundai said that they weren’t actually going to release the N Vision. I was really excited for that one cause they put so much work into making it look like an actual car you’d see on the road. I thought for sure it was coming out.

There’s always the new 400Z if you want a modern sports car with retro styling. But even that one still looks too modern… :/

Psythik ,

I would but I was born here and don’t know of anywhere better that has legal weed and not a completely out of control cost of living.

Psythik ,

Regardless you should still play Chip’s Challenge.

Psythik ,

The game is very repetitive, anyway. I was bored after about 20 hours. By then you’ve already seen everything there is to see.

Psythik ,

Hmm well I played on and off for about a month and didn’t notice anything new.

Do you know if they plan on adding some new game modes? I’m already sick and tired of the whole “shoot bugs, rescue hostages/blow up objective, shoot more bugs then extract” thing. I get that a lot of shooters have a tendency to only have 2-3 game modes max, but those games at least have PvP to keep things interesting.

Psythik ,

When I bought the game it wouldn’t let me play without creating an account, and that was over a month ago. I guess the requirement is only just now rolling out for the majority of players?

Psythik ,

I prefer Windows 11 for its superior HDR support. No other OS even comes close to making HDR as easy as 11 does.

Psythik ,

If you have an HDR monitor, then 11 is worth upgrading to. AutoHDR makes things so easy; it just works. No need to even bother with calibrating anything; no need to worry about switching it off when going back to SDR content, either. All you gotta do is flip the “Use HDR” switch, set HDR tone mapping to “Auto” on your monitor, and then forget about it. That’s it, couldn’t be easier.

Meanwhile in 10, I have to turn off HDR every time I go back to SDR content, and in KDE, HDR doesn’t even work properly yet on my LG C1. Neither issue exists in 11. HDR just works.

Psythik ,

One feature I found extremely useful is that you can now quote previous texts. Less useful is the ability to react to texts with emojis. But it’s good for letting someone know that you saw/liked their message by reacting with a thumbs up.

Psythik ,

Okay but why is it seemingly always associated with gaming? Anytime someone mentions Linux gaming, I often hear people asking them if they’re using Wayland.

Psythik ,

Count me as one of those people. I just don’t understand what everyone likes about it so much. It’s a highly quotable, but otherwise boring movie.

Psythik ,

To be fair, I don’t see the point of this app existing when YouTube Music (and, naturally—by extention—YTM ReVanced) already has a dedicated podcast section. No need for redundant apps.

Psythik ,

The recommendations are the main reason why I ditched Spotify for YouTube Music ReVanced. Spotify seems to believe that my tastes in music are more indie than they are, just because not everything I listen to has hit a Billboard chart at one point. YTM tends to play the same songs over and over again, but at least they’re songs I recognize.

Also why would I pay $10/mo for Spotify Premium when I could use YTM ReVanced for free and just block the ads? Which is the second reason why I switched.

Psythik ,

“Yankees”? The title clearly states that this happened in Ohio, which is about 500 miles away from New York.

Psythik ,

Nope, Yankee means New York. Everyone else is wrong, especially the Brits.

Psythik ,

Nope I’d be too busy getting into The Transporter mindset to fiddle with the radio. I may be an audiophile, but I’m a driver first and foremost and I have my priorities. Seconds count in a scenario such as this one.

Psythik , (edited )

Or The Sixth Day starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Psythik , (edited )

Recent? They’ve been pulling bullshit moves like this since the 80s, when they successfully killed off the game rental market in Japan. To this day you still can’t rent games in that country.

This is why it’s always morally correct to pirate Nintendo games, and thankfully Nintendo consoles have had a history of being among the easiest to emulate, especially the N64, Wii, and Switch. All three of those systems had working emulators while the consoles themselves were still in their peak years.

Psythik ,

Are quaaludes even still available in 2024?

Or did you mean to say “lewd”?

Psythik ,

Sorry can’t help it; I’m an energy vampire and we tend to be jerks. Got it from my dad.

Psythik ,

That said, I just fired up the game yesterday for the first time since launch and was surprised by how much progress was being made. I was surprised to find that mod support is already available; I thought it was still a work in progress cause I didn’t hear anything about it. You think that Paradox would have been making a huge announcement about it since it’s a huge important thing, but if they did, I surely can’t find it on their website nor on the produce page in Steam.

I was also surprised to find that my performance issues were fixed too. Now getting a solid 40-60 FPS on high settings with a medium-sized city @ 4K. Not bad, given that I usually averaged 20-30 on the same machine in C:S1.

Now all they gotta do is make the economy easier to understand. I still don’t get how I can be losing money every month, yet my balance keeps going up. But other than that, all of my complaints with the game have been fixed. If anyone reading this hasn’t played the game in several months, I suggest you give it a try again. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Psythik ,

They finally killed off BC2? So I can finally give up on the futile effort of reinstalling the game every year, in hopes that maybe I’ll find a populated server this time around?

I miss that game so much. Rush was so much fun. The maps were designed perfectly for that game mode, unlike future BF titles where it’s a tacked on feature. It was so good, that I found out the hard way that I actually don’t like Battlefield games, after wasting money on BF3, 4, and Hardline, and hating all of them. I just want more Bad Company games.

Psythik ,

Conquest is not my idea of fun, either. It’s a lot of running back and forth between the same objectives over and over again until someone wins. To me there’s no thrill in that.

I like the concept of “push/bomb/capture the objective and move on to the next phase of the map” in any game that has it. Used to play a lot of Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch because of it. But now I’ve moved past those games as well. Overwatch has an issue where the meta evolves faster than I can keep up, and TF2 has the opposite problem we’re the meta doesn’t evolve at all because Valve doesn’t update the game. So I’ve stopped playing shooters for now until something new comes out that satisfies my desire for this kind of gameplay.

  1. Yes

  3. If they’re wealthy enough, yes. Or ideally, people who can’t afford a home should be given one by the government. No landlords needed. Having a roof over your head should be a basic human right.
  4. Nothing. Again, basic human right. Everyone is entitled to a home.

Saving this pic so I can recreate this beautiful monster in Cities: Skylines.

YouTube is finally cracking down on third-party apps that enable ad-blocking (alternativeto.net)

The company’s team clarified that their terms prohibit third-party apps from disabling ads, as it denies creators their due reward for viewership. Although the announcement did not specify any app by name, it’s plausible to presume that third-party YouTube apps such as NewPipe, YouTube ReVanced, Piped, and others might be...

Psythik ,

What about ReVanced? Should be safe, since it’s just a modded version of the official YT app, right?

Psythik ,

Same; ever since I left reddit I just can’t find any other platform besides YT that satisfies my need to be addicted to a website.

Psythik ,

Nobody else wants the sports car? Really?

Psythik ,

Because it’s more practical as a vehicle. It’s more aerodynamic, probably more reliable since there will probably be parts available, and you won’t get weird looks from other cars on the road.

Needless to say I was not a very imaginative kid. Guess that’s what happens when you’re raised by a down-to-earth, jerk of a father. I wasn’t even allowed to believe in Santa.

Psythik ,

Yeah I think we don’t have to worry about it for the same reason why you don’t have to worry about getting thrown backwards when jumping in a moving train.

Psythik ,

I believe it. I’ve seen people who sleep on a bare mattress covered in mystery stains, with nothing but a blanket and a couch cushion.

Psythik ,

Can’t relate cause I’ve gone out of my way to avoid seeing that video. Somehow I’ve managed to avoid seeing it for the 17 years it’s been around — literally half a lifetime ago for me — yet I haven’t even seen a screenshot (oh god I’m getting old).

And it’s going to stay that way too, lol

Psythik ,

Did Pure Pwnage ever pay you rolalties?

Psythik ,

I’ll switch once HDR support becomes mainstream in Linux. That and a Linux equivalent of AutoHDR (which is a Windows 11 feature that converts SDR videos and games to HDR). This is literally the only thing keeping me on Windows.

Psythik ,

What about an SDR brightness setting? Does it have that too?

Psythik ,

Yes I’m aware of this. I’m not telling other people to stay away from Linux over HDR. If you don’t care about it, then by all means feel free to use whatever OS you want.

Psythik ,

Thanks for the reply. I’m switching to Linux today. Gonna give EndeavorOS a try.

Psythik ,

Hey thanks for the offer!

Ended up installing Garuda instead since it does most of the work for me when it comes to building an Arch-based OS for gaming. It mostly works except for some minor issues, a major one, and a show stopping one.

For one, the kernel completely stops responding to even Alt+SysRq+R-E-I-S-U-B when validating my Wallpaper Engine install in Steam and I don’t know why. I found a plug in that allows it to work in KDE but I can’t even get that far if I can’t even install the app. I just ended up not installing it, but I’m still looking for a Linux-native app for animated wallpapers.

Secondly, I have this weird flickery-ghosting effect when playing games in fullscreen (Well, actually just Helldivers 2 cause it’s the only game I’ve tested so far). Borderless windowed is fine but then there’s a distracting thin white border around the window.

Thirdly, I can’t even begin to comprehend how OpenRGB is supposed to work. It’s like trying to understand a foreign language, especially given how intuitive and easy to use SignalRGB is (Windows exclusive). I can’t even figure out how to use OpenRGB to simply disable the damn lights so I don’t have to deal with it.

Fourthly, the Nvidia X Server app is missing almost every single feature that Nvidia Control Panel has. Where are the 3D settings for games? Where’s the AI stuff? Where’s RTX Video Super Resolution? I didn’t spend $1800 on a GPU, only to not be able to use it to its fullest.

And most importantly: HDR is completely broken, which is a show-stopper for me. I’m too used to HDR to go back to SDR, especially in movies or games. Turning it on makes the desktop and all SDR content look dull and washed-out on an LG C1 OLED, like a faded photo from the 1970s. It’s obvious that KDE isn’t properly mapping SDR colors to an HDR space. The SDR color intensity slider does nothing, either. HDR works perfectly in Windows 11, even when showing SDR content.

tl;dr: I don’t actually expect any help; just wanted to vent. I’ll figure this shit out eventually, but until then, I’m dual booting Windows 11. From what I understand, HDR support is still in its early stages for KDE. So I’ll check back again in a few months to see how things have improved. Anyway thanks for listening.

Horn of Balance - an indie 2D zelda-like

I'm developing 'Horn of Balance', a 2D zelda-like featuring 12 non-linear dungeons, 2 interconnected worlds and a TON of secrets.

Right now, the project is live on Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hornofbalance/horn-of-balance) and we've almost hit the funding goal with just 24 hours left!

There's also a free demo on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2738140/Horn_of_Balance/) and Itch.

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have!

@games

Psythik ,

I wish that the N64 and GameCube era of Zelda got more love. 2D Zeldas are great and all (especially Link’s Awakening and Minish Cap), but most of my adolescent gaming memories were formed in the early 3D era so that’s what I cherish most. Yet most indie devs seem to be Gen-Xers who trying to cater to Zoomers who really seem to have a thing for the 2D era, despite having no memory of it. But I would love nothing more than an indie title inspired by Majora’s Mask or Wind Waker.

Psythik ,

Well I don’t necessarily mean copy the graphics, but more of the gameplay of that era. A N64/GameCube-like title with modern graphics is what I’m looking for.

Psythik ,

What kind of name for a game is Dragon Ball Z: Carrot?

Psythik ,

As someone who lives there, I’m not. We’re an extremely purple state.

Psythik ,

I would but unfortunately I’m too spoiled by 4K 120Hz in HDR on an OLED. No other display technology comes even close to looking as good as an OLED does. Not to mention PC gaming at 4K120. Makes the PS5 look like a PS4.
