Hey.

I’m Dan. A 36 year old father of two who doesn’t have nearly as much time as he needs to do half the things he wishes he had the time to do.

A fellow More or Less listener I see. Good taste.

I have just finished reading this.

As an aside, how do you manage to maintain focus when reading so many books at the same time? I genuinely don’t think I could manage more than maybe two at a push.

Yes I’d prefer to stay away from the news side of the industry because I can find that stuff to be exhausting at times.

Ideally LTAG will flourish into a place to talk about what you’re playing, dissect the latest video from your favourite content creator or post some really cool art from an old magazine you’ve just found in the loft.

I watched my favourite sports team score two goals in the final 90 seconds to force overtime…and then promptly lose in overtime. It is the way.

I’ve got two for you. Both by the same author but they’re both real page turners.

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Harcastle and The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton.

So far we’ve had a few gusts but nothing approaching what we had on Sunday evening.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Yes and no.

Yes, in that I’ve been beaten by life and wanted to stop and just sort of…not exist anymore. No in that I can’t, cause the kids. It’s a vicious cycle. There’s been moments where I legitimately just want to cease, but then I feel bad about the effect that’d have on the kids…which in turn makes me feel significantly worse.

You heathen!

Before the diabetes diagnosis I used to take three sugars in my tea.

Two years later and I’m not sure I could stomach tea with sugar in it.

Oneeightnine OP ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I accidentally tried a milkless, sugarless tea from the work vending machine the other day and, you know what? It wasn’t half bad.

The brolly thing has caught me out more than a few times on the school run. I should definitely be carrying them with me going forward.

I’d argue the need to have a cuppa immediately after finishing anything remotely tiring (shopping, driving more than 45 minutes, building a thing).

Extra points if you go ‘ahhhh, right I need a cuppa’ before actually making one.

Tried to explain why ‘Bob’ was funny to them last week and they weren’t having any of it.

Can’t speak to the hardware question but the game itself is definitely worth playing, especially with headphones.

It’s one of the few games that I think everyone should experience at least a little of. The puzzles can be a little meh, and the combat is fiiiiiiine, but where the game really shines is in its atmosphere, world design and use of FMV and audio to really sell it’s story and put you inside the protagonist head.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Fear of social rejection mainly.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I agree with you. I think we should be actively encouraging more posting.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I’m on my second re-read and whilst I agree it’s a bit frustrating, there’s still so much good stuff to enjoy along the way that I’d recommend sticking with it if you’re enjoying it. You got this!

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

No one has any idea what they’re doing.

I’m 35. I’ve got two kids. I make it up as I go along. There’s no plan, no blueprint. There’s just the day to day crap that life has for us all. I wake up, I go to work and my only real aim is to get home to my kids and partner.

how do you even use twitter?

I’m not actually using twitter, just never got into it, but now that I’m trying out mastodon, idk if I’m just too old now but I don’t… get it. I just can’t seem to engage with anyone, the UI seems confusing and counterintuitive, I don’t seem to have the context to get into this type of website, can someone tell me...

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

With regards to Mastodon, there’s no algorithm. So you’ll need to be using the hashtag search function to really find the sort of people you’re interested in communicating with.

I’d argue those same people were using food banks long before Lizz Truss wormed her way into power. She’s obviously made the situation significantly worse, and it now encompasses a larger section of society…but Cameron’s government is what got us into this mess in the first place.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I played that just after the birth of my second child and it quickly became one of my absolute favourite games of all time.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Bloodborne, Sifu or Hyper Light Drifter.

I don’t really want to pick between the three, but I’ll go with Sifu, because it’s got a little of that super tough, Fromsoftiness built in.

Runs like a dream on my Steamdeck too, and has some genuinely really impressive moments of beauty that I wasn’t expecting from a super-hard-beat-people-up-with-a-pipe game.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Same. I ended up playing it on my partner’s PS5, and it ran well enough (30FPS be damned). Put that on my Steamdeck though, please.

Recommend me a supermarket that has a good delivery service?

We’re at the end of our rope with Asda. Everything is being substituted, and we’re fine with that when it’s just another brand of the same thing but like they’re sending entirely different vegetables to the ones we need, they’re substituting meat-free ordered items with actual meatballs, etc etc. It’s got the point...

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

The problem you’re going to have, especially with substitute items is that the staff don’t really have the time to be picky with what they’re picking. Often the gun will select something that’s in a different location, which means they’ve got to trek elsewhere to get it…or they can keep to their times, select something else entirely and move on with their pick; especially in the run up to Christmas where there’s a massive influx of untrained staff who frankly, couldn’t give a shit.

Obviously there’s going to be a bit of shift from store to store, company to company, but I think there’s a general view that if the customer is that put out by the subs, they’ll just come and get their shopping in store next time, or they won’t and another customer will fill the slot.

It’s bad for customers and bad for colleagues, but the bosses just don’t give a crap. £££ go up.

Anyway. Forgive my moan. I don’t really have anything meaningful to add to this. Maybe give Ocado a look? They tend to be a bit pricier but I imagine, given the nature of their business that getting it right on the doorstep is the be all and end.

*I worked in a Sainsbury’s supermarket for fifteen years.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Nah I get it. I’ve had substitutes before and there’s so many, and they happen so often that I question why I’d even risk it to begin with.

Same goes with these new Deliveroo type ordering services, they’re wrong just enough that I’m almost ready to give up with them completely.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

He’d basically be dissolving his own position at that point right?

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

The thing I’m giving to this post instead of giving to the growing pile of laundry I need to do.

Oneeightnine ,

I wish I had the time for a redux. The early game is absolutely fantastic, but I’ve got such a limited time to play I don’t think I could really commit to it.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Well firstly, any new staff inevitably ask the ‘do we work an hour more/less’ depending on the circumstance.

Aside from that, not much else changes. One Sunday morning I’d finish at 6 and then six months later I’d have a Sunday where I finished at 8.

Fortunately I never worked Sunday nights, so I never felt like I was losing much after work time.

If I genuinely absolutely adore a book that I’ve read digitally I’ll usually go in for the paperback. And, this might be the snob in me, but I’m more likely to make that purchase if it’s a nonfiction book.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I think that technically we have two ‘moons’ already. Just that the other one is super small and doesn’t really have much effect on the planet.

Sorry that this didn’t answer your question, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Thanks for the heads-up. It would appear I was wrong.
