The holidays are upon us & many of you may be wondering just how many books to take with you (if, like me, you are an e-book refusenik).

Here's Tom Gauld's decision tool - enjoy.

And, you may need a bigger suitcase....

[This post is not intended to re-open the extended paperbacks vs. e-books debate that has played out in my timeline periodically over the last year]

I used to read at least one paperback per day on holiday. I have no idea how I managed to stay under by luggage allowance in those days!

Then, I got given a Kindle as a leaving present from work ....

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 263 , Wednesday 17/07/2024

Up early this morning to take Mrs S. to work so I could have the car for a cardio appointment.

Came back from dropping Mrs S. off via the moors, it was a glorious day & it was a lovely drive back!

Cut it a bit fine to get to the appointment at the Hospital to have a Holter monitor fitted, this was my first mistake.

The 2nd mistake was not realising that every student in the western hemisphere was graduating from the local university - there were hundreds of the buggers !
So at gone 10am , when I was expecting light traffic I met near rush hour levels instead !

Then I discovered that the hospital had made getting to the onsite multi storey nigh on impossible - I actually drove past the entrance to the hospital 5 minutes before I was due , but then got utterly lost trying to find my way to the car park!
Having unravelled that mystery I arrived at said car park just as the attendant was putting up the full sign !
At this point I went in search of an offsite spot - which had all been taken by…. You guessed it the students & their mothers , fathers, bothers, sisters , aunts , uncles , cousins , best mates, WFBs & pet goldfish !
I’m not sure that there was a parking space within 100sq miles of said hospital! (There maybe some very slight exaggeration in the previous paragraph.)

The air was very shade of blue imaginable, there were hardened criminals blushing at the language I used to berate myself !

I drove home again over the moors, this time because I had no wish to get entangled in the Student hoards again!

Once home I pulled myself together & rang the cardiology department & managed to secure a new appointment for next week , phew, that was - I have to say - a relief !

I spent the afternoon venting my frustration on some ESO baddies!

I went to pick up Mrs S. just after 5pm & because it was such a lovely evening we decided to eat out for the first time in a long time.
We stopped at a Bistro out in a small village in the wilds & had a truly delicious meal.
There was Fruits of the Forest, Salted caramel & vanilla scoops of gelato for dessert - I was in heaven !

Final Thoughts.

What a rollercoaster of a day , I was so very disappointed in myself for missing the appointment this morning , it was all I could do to drive home!

But a nice treat at the end of the day saved my sanity.

Thank you to all those who are helping me on this journey, in a myriad different ways. I am thankful to each & every one of you! 🫂 🫶🐿️🖖

@Tim_McTuffty @actuallyautistic A great save there Super Squirrel. Apart from "sales" caramel. There is no place for salt, in caramel! It's put in to take the sweetness out. Caramel is supposed to be sweet.

I can rant about this for days! Ask MrsD. 😉

Glad you had a nice evening. Keep it up my friend, keep it up.
