Remember that one time Hillary Clinton answered an endless barrage of congressional questions for eleven hours without showing any signs of fatigue?

Apparently, she should’ve just taken a nap.

Got_Bent ,

If I remember, the babies were sliced up and used as toppings on a pedo gay pizza.

I’ve always kinda felt that a Venezuelan/Zimbabwean type currency crash has always been the end goal when it comes to US debt.

Borrow more money than exists many times over.

Spend the money

Devalue the underlying currency of the debt to effectively zero

Fuck over millions upon millions of people

But hey, the spending was, in the end, all free!

Got_Bent ,

I mean, I was more looking for examples of currencies that had crashed to near zero than the specific driving forces behind the illustrations, but ok.

Got_Bent ,

I miss the days when Google maps would tell you to get in a canoe for transoceanic routes.

I suspect some enterprising person actually tried it, thus depriving the rest of us our directional humor.

Got_Bent ,

So I was on a jury pool in December.

After the attorneys for both sides finished their dog and pony show, the judge himself made each of us answer the following question:

What is the purpose of criminal incarceration?

A - Punishment

B - Deterrence

C - Rehabilitation

After all seventy five of us had answered, all of us who responded with anything other than punishment were dismissed. Even those who answered a combination of the choices. Nope. Punishment was the only correct answer.

To my amusement, this barely left enough people available to fill the jury box.

I followed the case. Guy robbed a convenience store. No death. No injury. Got fifty nine years.

It’s already a thing and has been for quite some time. It’s called mark to market. Most people and companies use it to enjoy unrealized losses, but unrealized gains are in play. It’s not a new concept. It’s just that it’s an election at the individual level rather than a requirement.

Got_Bent ,

Are we sure these people don’t just want to ban Florida but have a spelling problem?

Got_Bent ,

Not gaming console, but the first time I played a CD on my computer in the nineties, I thought I was witnessing the end of technology. Then when Primus released Tales from the Punchbowl on CD-ROM with the interactive stuff, I thought this was surely it. Technology could proceed no further.

Got_Bent ,

One of the many reasons that I don’t have venmo or any other form of transfer app is so people can’t send me some nominal sum of money.

I’m not rich, but definitely one of the higher earners at my job. I don’t want some person making less than half what I do worrying about a slice of pizza or a cup of coffee.

To note: This is also not something I gloat over or continuously remind people of or any such thing. I’m just happy to have the resources to be able to bring the smallest smidgen of “make your day a little less shitty”

Got_Bent ,

I’ve seen that before and it still makes me laugh out loud

Many years later, Coolio said that he regrets his reaction and that he realizes it’s an honor to get a Weird Al parody.

Got_Bent ,

Eh. Pretty much all of my viewing is related to physics I don’t understand, astronomy I don’t understand, and weird history stuff. I still get the soft porn algorithm on shorts.

Closest I come to viewing is when I’m scrolling and my phone interprets that as a click. Then I get pissed off because that fraction of a second for the algorithm is like letting a single pregnant cockroach into your kitchen.

Probably the most valuable thing I learned in school was how to build amortization schedules. I’ve used it on vehicles, student debt, and mortgage. It’s really helped me win the “stop paying unnecessary interest to others” game.

Do you think the UK sometimes sits up late at night with a bottle of whisky and stalks the EU on social media?

When today’s scotus lineup repeatedly smacks you down for being too far to the right, you’ve got some issues.

This man wants to be imprisoned for his country.

Oblige him.

There it is. I knew that kid would be in here somewhere.

Got_Bent ,

I have accomplished very little in my life.

I have pissed off innumerable people, been ostracized, ghosted, fired, disowned, discarded, and deserved all of it.

I have never lived up to my potential. I’ve got less than zero ambition.

I have been a historically awful husband and/or boyfriend.

But I accomplished one thing:

I got my daughter through college with no debt.

While she did the work to get admitted and slog through the classes and deal with the remote classroom bullshit of the COVID era, I’m proud that I was able to pull my shit together just long enough to keep writing those godforsaken checks so she will never know the struggle of being shackled to a lifetime of crippling debt.

I did one good thing in this lifetime, and because it gave her opportunity, it was all worth it.

How the fuck can an economy that’s almost nothing but advertisements sustain itself for any period of time? It feels like forcing more and more ads is the only thing anybody does for money anymore.

Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability. (lemmy.world)

Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...

Some games really needed manuals to play. That’s what text files were for.

They’re pollinated by the majestic lot lizard.

I love that there’s a reference to the Tom Hanks classic Mazes and Monsters in there.

Funny thing about the eighties. I was absolutely forbidden from playing dungeons and dragons but was totally allowed to play wizardry, Ultima, and bards tale.

Explain that parental logic.

I do feel I missed out. Never did get to play the real deal.

Got_Bent ,

Maybe you could just enjoy a nice game of Scrabble instead.

Yeah I read through it, and on a scale of one to Bobby Knight, she’s not really all that out of the ordinary when compared to her male counterparts.

That’s not to excuse some of the behavior mentioned. Rather I saw it as somewhere along the lines of, “ooh! Look! Terrible woman!”

I’m more of the opinion that the pressure to win at all costs has turned the coaching profession into a cess pool of sociopathic disease regardless of gender.

For some real fun, look up Rick Majerus shitting in a towel.

Death for abortions and IVF.

The latter surprises me since it’s generally affluent white people doing it, and this group definitely wants more of those babies.

Up next, death for miscarriage.

Coworkers who don’t have daughters mock me when I say I don’t want my adult daughter living here because it’s dangerous. They think I’m overblowing it. They’re taking the standard, “if it didn’t affect me personally, it’s not real or important,” stance.

I immediately knew this would be the fifth circuit.

Aren’t there some billion dollar super yachts out there? There’s always a reason for the stupidity rich to claim they need more.

Got_Bent ,

Of course, repayment of loans for billionaires is entirely optional. Just raise the overdraft fees of the normies to compensate.

A Filipino villager is nailed to a cross for the 35th time on Good Friday to pray for world peace (apnews.com)

A Filipino villager has been nailed to a wooden cross for the 35th time to reenact Jesus Christ’s suffering in a brutal Good Friday tradition he said he would devote to pray for peace in Ukraine, Gaza and the disputed South China Sea....

He should be more like Peter who refused to imitate Jesus and was thus crucified upside down.

Ten of the last twelve incoming calls on my phone were scam numbers. I haven’t had the ringer or vibrate turned on for my phone for months so I never notice them. My phone does a pretty good job of blocking them and an outstanding job blocking spam texts

I’m fifty one years old and just kinda wanna break down what I’ve seen in my life:

My grandparents generation: Was able to buy housing, get healthcare, receive retirement. Note: They lived through the great depression, and categorically never spent any money that wasn’t necessary, even when they had several boatloads of it.

My parents generation: Housing was achievable but not given (I remember a whole lot of single wides, apartments, and duplexes among the adults of my childhood). Healthcare was affordable. Retirement was promised but not delivered.

My generation: Housing was achievable if you moved to the sticks and loved you some Jesus at the local Baptist Church, but not in the cities. We got a taste of healthcare twenty five years ago, but then yeah no. Retirement? Hahahahaha! We got 401(k)s forced in us, and they never materialized into dick. Many flatout vaporized when our marriages fizzled out.

My kid’s generation. Seriously, just die in the street. You’ll get absolute fuck all nothing, and you’ll like it as the older generations blame you for our fuckups.

My great contribution is that I’ll be able to leave my house free and clear of mortgage to my spawn when I check out. She can live in it, sell it, rent it, burn it to the ground. Whatever she wants, but damnit, I’m giving her the opportunity to do it, which most of her peers will never have.

Willy Wonka is furiously amending his payment contract with the oompa loompas right about now.

Won’t somebody think of the chocolate factory and its shareholders?

I made a functioning slot machine in Excel while bored at work. Got flummoxed at how to keep a running total of wins and losses though.

I had a 55 inch TV that I bought in 2005 right before flat screens became common. Thing was so heavy it was on wheels.

When it finally died, I used it as a TV stand for my TV.

What? Next thing you’re gonna tell me is that sex on the beach doesn’t involve any sand!

Just tried it. Yep, no access. Just a long message lambasting Texas politicians.

I tried all the other regular sites, no issues.

They’re gonna need an industry wide cooperation to successfully combat this.

I’ve had to provide the physical card at the start of most jobs I’ve had. What’s that form you fill out? I-9?

Looking at the list of required documents, I may have used a passport at some point as that appears to trump everything, but mine has long since expired and I haven’t been bothered to get a new one.

Got_Bent ,

I got mine in 1986 and it pretty much looks like the picture.

Fun side note: back then, you didn’t get a social security number until you were old enough to get a job. I was fourteen when I got my social security number.

Got_Bent ,

Good for you and your parents, but it wasn’t common until 1986 when Reagan’s new tax code suddenly required social security numbers for dependents. It was 1987 when they started rolling it out as part of the birth at the hospital.

Your lol no tone implies I don’t remember my own teen years.

Meanwhile, if I were to skip court for a jaywalking ticket, they’d put a warrant out for my arrest.

I don’t think he believes any such thing as his words being legally binding.

He’s just being your run of the mill petulant childish Texan politician with the “nuh uh YOU ARE!” type rhetoric.
