Couldn’t you just ask ChapGPT whether it wrote something specific?

GlendatheGayWitch ,

I hope for their sakes that they are, the names and addresses have already been circulating social media according to an article I read last month.

It’s only outdated to the rich families who can afford brand new games for their kids. Excluding discs is a great way to force many out of the market.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Not only does the love triangle not make sense, but it really only serves to erode the significance of friendship of Legolas and Gimli. They were supposed to be first friendship between an Elf and dwarf in a long time

What are some alternatives to bars that stay open late for folks that don't drink alcohol?

Bars are notable for staying open late, but I’m not really familiar with alternatives that might operate similarly. I think many cafés (at least around my area) tend to close a few hours earlier by comparison, which would be my go-to for an alternative otherwise, so what other options are there?

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Whataburger, Winco Foods, insomnia cookies, Denny’s, and other diners come to mind. Since covid, hardly anything is open late anymore.

You might be able to find some other places local to you that we won’t know aboht, if you satay up late and use the “open now” option on Google maps.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Night owls still need groceries and it’s best to shop when you’re more awake and alert. When I worked a graveyard job, Winco was a lifesaver. I thought if better to include more for those who might be interested.

This tenant obviously is close to having the means to owning their own home. They blew ~50% of a down payment on a house that they don’t own.

The smart thing to do, would have been save the money and use that towards a house of their own.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Right! That’s a good chunk of a down payment on a house of their own!

There's no way for teachers to figure out if students are using ChatGPT to cheat, OpenAI says in new back-to-school guide (www.businessinsider.com)

I agree mostly with your comment. Math class used to be called logic, because that’s really what the general population is there for. Math is a vehicle to learn logical thinking. Those who become engineers or physicists will then learn how to apply those logic skills in their chosen field.

I disagree that history classes were mainly there to analyze evidence to make a point. We learn history, so that we can better participate in discussions, know where we came from, and learn from past mistakes. It’s vital that voters have an understanding of history to prevent bad things from happening. Don’t get me wrong, the main point about history classes wasn’t learning exact dates, but to have a good understanding of the timeline and have a good grasp of major events in the country/world. It’s that part, learning details about major events that I’m concerned will be glossed over with AI coming into play. How can you recognize a destructive political trend if you never learned why it was destructive in the past?

Really? I’ve never heard that and I’m in Texas

I saw an article on lemmy about this yesterday, though not sure whether I’ll find it again.

Hotels, flights, retailers already have an abundance of price discrimination. Target shows higher prices when your device is physically closer to a store and lower prices when you are further away. IPhone users tend to pay higher prices because they assume that since you had the extra money to pay for an expensive phone, you’ll be open to spending more at other stores.

Likewise, if they see your device or other devices on your network/near you making several searches for hotels/flights the price will increase.

It’s just another way to build greed into the system

Horizon has some beautiful moments

Back in the day, I thought Oblivion and Skyrim had some beautiful spots although it may not be as impactful now as it was upon release.

I pointed something similar with regard to thermometers to a group of European tourists. In Farenheidt, 98.6 is the normal temperature and if you are getting sick, people will say that 99 is a low-grade fever. While that is a. 4 degree difference in F, that’s only a .2 difference in C.

Likewise for weather, F is much more precise and easier to communicate given that there is a smaller interval between units. There’s more than 2 units difference in F for every 1 unit difference in C. That’s huge when you’re talking about the difference between 38 and 39 C

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Lol, you have to use fractional measures because each degree is further apart. I thought I had made that point. Sure you won’t ever get rid of all fractional measuring in any system, but it’s much easier if you don’t have to use as much

I had to read that headline twice, at first I thought it was specifying users on ecstasy. That’s such a bad name

The right has always been very organized. The church helps keep then organized. Fox News keeps them organized as they are all fed the same crap. Politically, the Tea Party helped organize the neonazis and neoconfederates, giving them a louder voice and recruited more of the like. Then the Tea Party rejoined the Republican party shoving it much further to the right. Around that time, they also figured out social media, which gave them an even louder voice.

When Obama was in office, the news wasn’t as focused on them, so people that were living in Blue states weren’t as aware. In the south, it was still a battlefield as you lived next to people with these beliefs.

It’s their level of organization that has made the Republicans such a force to deal with. Before social media, the fringe groups stayed on the fringe of society and weren’t given a voice through various forms of media. Since social media, they have a much stronger voice and we have discovered how easy it is for people to be manipulated, like with the Jade Helm scare in TX. If you don’t remember this, there was a social media scare going around that Obama was going to take over TX and imprison those who didn’t vote for him. The posts claimed that there were a bunch of Walmarts that had been emptied and were going to be used as makeshift prisons. The posts also claimed that Obama was hiding his plan from the public by claiming it was a training exercise named Jade Helm. So effective was the scare, that Greg Abbot (who still remains governor of TX) ordered the TX National Guard to watch the US army perform its training to prevent the army from arresting civilians. In reality, the US army was just performing practice exercises around Fort Hood, which is a little north of Austin. Years later, it was revealed that the scare was the work of a Russian troll farm experimenting with social media to see how disruptive they could be.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

There were even people waving the battle flag of the Confederate army/navy when the neoconfederates invaded Congress on January 6, 2021.

I still can’t believe that these people are getting such light sentences for taking up arms and invading the Capitol.

I think it’s talking about emails in the Promotions tab with the word “ad” in a box at the beginning of the subject line.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Gmail sorts email by tab. Click the triple lines and you’ll see Primary, Promotions, and Social. Basically Gmail didn’t like the word spam, so they named the folder promotions.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Interesting, I’ve seen that on desktop and mobile app for nearly a decade.

I thought that the treaty from the Spanish-American War made the Rio Grande neutral territory. Any land that appears in the middle of the river doesn’t belong to either country.

Unless there have been other treaties that I didn’t learn about in my history classes, the buoys technically are infringement on neutral territory.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Yeah, pretty much.

One time there was also an island that appeared in the Rio Grande that some people claimed as another country with a flag and everything. The US military kicked them off of it.

What is the worst US state to live in generally?

I’m aware that, at the moment, Florida is deemed unsafe for people to travel to, but what is generally the worst state to live in? Factors such as education, religious extremism, crime, cost of food, healthcare, and access to other resources are relevant. Will “Deep South” states remain one of the worst places to live in...

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Depends on where you go in Dallas. With all the megachurches and conversion camp HQs around the metroplex, it’s also known as an evangelical Christian hotspot.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Technically still waiting on it to happen. If you’ve had anal sex, you still have to wait 3 months. So they are still discriminating against most MSM.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Theoretically, it applies to everyone. The anti-sodomy laws also technically applied to everyone, but were only enforced against the LGBT community.

It is good that now they will at least screening those who have heterosexual intercourse, but most MSM still won’t be able to donate with the various restrictions. Only MSM in a long-term relationship will be able to donate.

I can understand the biological reason for not allowing certain medications to avoid complications. However, they could still take blood and just keep it separate just as plasma centers that take MSM plasma do. If there really is a shortage, they should be taking everything being offered.

“It’s colder than Christmas”. For reference I live in TX, so it doesn’t take much for it to be colder than Christmas (it’s not uncommon for Christmas to be in the 80s F).

Where did it release as an app? On the Google Play Store, searching “Voyager” gives a bitcoin app and navigation app.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

It’d such a bad feedback loop. Employees don’t always feel safe being honest at exit interviews, so they say what they think HR wants to hear and HR just takes it as fact. Then they build training like this based off what Former employees felt safe telling HR and the cycle continues.

The ping ping table at least lasts longer than a pizza party, but it’s no more significant. When retiring, nobody wishes they ate more pizza or played more ping pong at work. They wish they had been able to grow and make more money so they’d be better taken care of.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

If it was a Foosball table, it could at least be used as a makeshift coat rack

LED christmas bulbs particularly bad. It felt like walking into a rave at the Christmas store.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

The US was founded by Christian fanatics that left England because of their extreme beliefs.

The Spanish came to the Americas and established missions to convert the indigenous people.

Depending on location in the Americas, religion was either first or a very close second.

Sure the founding fathers created a government that wasn’t directly controlled by the church, but religion has been a major contributor. Don’t forget that the church used parts of the Bible to justify slavery, which was a hot topic starting with the founding of the US.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

A lot of rural districts are going down to 4 day school days (although some are 10 hour days) in an attempt to attract teachers.

Not sure how well that is going for families, given that it’s difficult to have one parent at home when the kids are home an extra day.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Some districts have high school start early, so that they can work in the afternoon. They also have to stagger school start times for the bus schedule to work. Without enough drivers, the bus has to pick up and drop off HS students and then go pick up other students.

I can understand the homework, as there has been some research suggesting that it isn’t as beneficial as we believe.

There would need to be a different schedule for students in many school activities, like sports, music, and theater among others that need some before or after school practice.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

No, homework doesn’t exist to embarass parents. Learners need to actually use a skill in order to learn it. Homework gives them that opportunity.

With the pressures of the state standardized tests that keep cranking up and taking up more class time, there isn’t time for students to practice every skill during class. It’s a Republican tactic to bring back segregation. They work to pull money from pu lic schools with vouchers and don’t require private schools to uphold the same standards as public ones. It funnels the rich into separate private schools away from those that aren’t in the upper class. If we could get rid of the ridiculous amount of testing and regain the ~5 weeks of school taken up by state testing, there would be more time in class to get the practice that all students need. Until that time, students need the homework to practice the skill and learn it.

Are you actually asking whether I can reduce fractions?

If so, you can simplify by figuring out how many times the denominator (the bottom number) into the numerator (the top number) and write that number next to what remains. Take 16/3 for example, 3 goes into 16 5 times, so you would write a number 5 and then, since 16-15=1, you would write 1/3. This makes the answer 5 1/3.

Another example is 8/64. This fraction will not pull a number to the side, given that the numerator is less than the demonization. As you may realize, 64 is a multiple of 8, so we can divide both numbers by 8. 8 divided by 8 is 1 and 64 divided by 8 is 8, so 8/64 simplifies down to 1/8.

Sometimes you can’t divide both numbers in the fraction by the numerator, such as with 9/24. I’d you want to do this the long way, find the greatest common factor between the numbers which is 3. Divide both the numerator and denominator by 3 and you will simplify the fraction and get 3/8. If you realize that the fraction can be reduced further, find the greatest common factor between the numerator and denominator and divide them again.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

The motto of the US is in god we trust, which is why it’s on money. It became the motto in the 50s when Christian nationalism became a prominent position, which is the root of the evil that is the gop. The gop would need to be a minority in government in both houses of Congress in order to change the motto, unfortunately.

It’s a change that is definitely needed, however the Christian nationalists are controlling the conversation, as was designed by McCarthyism. In TX, schools are required to hang a poster that says the motto if it is donated by a citizen. In the last legislative session, there was also a bill that would have required every classroom to post the ten commandments.

It is going to take an effort to go vote by the populace at large. In 2022, only about 80% of the Voting Age population was registered and of that 80%, only ~46% cast a vote despite the fact that it was a major election. A large portion of the judicial branch, almost all of the executive branch, and the entire legislative branch of TX were up for election and we only got 37% of the Voting Age population to the polls. Even with polls open for at least 9 hours a day the first week of voting and 12 hours the second week and final day of voting. Being the first state to have early voting, it’s common knowledge that there is virtually no line during early voting, but we still don’t have turnout.

Anyway, on top of needing people to go to the polls, we need a cultural revolution that rejects far-right ideology. McCarthyism purged centrist and left leaning ideology from the country and we are only in the last couple decades starting to see more centrist policies come into play.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

I do remember 2018 because it was a huge race in TX with Beto going against Cruz.

I understand that it can be inconvenient, but most people aren’t at work from 7 AM-7 PM when the polls are open for an entire week. Some are even open an hour or two later (law allows polls between 6 AM and 10 PM and we should be pushing for those late times). People just don’t wake up early or leave for the pills before or after work. I’ve lived in all the major cities in TX besides San Antonio and have never waited more than 15 minutes to vote. There’s a lie going around that it takes forever, when that’s only true on the very last day that you can cast a vote. I’ve seen posts on social media from poll workers saying that there were no lines during early voting at all.

I can understand not making it the first week of voting when they are only open from 8-5, but with some effort, most people should be able to make it when polls are open 7-7.

Should we have mail in voting? Yes. Should we have polls open until 10 PM on weekdays and polls open on the weekend (as already allowed by law)? Yes

We just aren’t going to have some other those things until people use the system that’s already in place and vote.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

I wouldn’t think the recognition from the public would be main reason. I figured that the biggest reason you’d want the credit is for future employers to see your name attached to a film. I would imagine they would be the ones to either sit through credits or search a credits database to see who worked on which films or worked on films recently.

Showing the speed limit while driving.

Using Google Maps on Android Auto. When I have a destination, it shows the speed limit of the current road. But if I don’t have a destination it won’t show the speed limit. It still knows what the speed limit is, but it won’t show it. Is there any way to have it show the speed limit all the time?

GlendatheGayWitch ,

Is Waze functional again? I haven’t used it in a couple years after it changed my destination mid-drive a couple times.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

I wish my verizon service worked that well. I have the 5g home internet. It’s supposed to be 300 mbps, but I do good to get 18 mbps download and 1-2 upload.

GlendatheGayWitch ,

In general conversation, no. We wouldn’t say that Hoiston is X miles from Dallas, we’d just say about 4 hours. Same with distance between Fort Worth and Dallas, we use time to convey distance.

It makes things easier for planning purposes to use drive time. We even say “drivetime” because that’s how long it takes to drive to the destination, whether that’s down the street to the store or a city across the state. It’s just like when you put in a destination on a GPS, it shows how long it’ll take to drive there, nothing more.
