Housing shouldn’t be seen as an investment.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, that was a dumb move but it shows how unreasonable driving alternatives are. People have to drive in the US

I’ve never prepared tilapia, but it’s an interesting choice to leave the head on

I think the evolution of multicellular life is most likely to be the great filter, since it took the longest to develop on earth.

From 2006-2011 agents in Arizona stood down as straw purchasers illegally bought 2,000 guns at shops, intending to use the information to track trafficking patterns and arrest the kingpins. However, agents didn’t deliver the high-level arrests – and in the process, they lost track of hundreds of guns.

This is the shit I think of when I’m paying my taxes.

Or the cumbox. Or that kid who broke his arms. Or that dog, Colby I think? No wonder AI always wants to exterminate humanity in sci-fi.

I wish ancient humans had domesticated bears and bred them to be pet-sized

Well yeah, only half our politicians work for Putin, but 100% work for Netanyahu.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Well that’s a new one, didn’t expect any prophets or messiahs in 2024.

I don’t know anything about Dune, does it have Magic (the Force)?

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Interesting, maybe I’ll read the book. I’m trying to read more

Gigan ,

Good, maybe people will drink less soda now

Great reasons the government shouldn’t be in charge of healthcare! Your options could change based on whatever party is in power

Seriously, where is the money going?

Gigan ,

Etienne Constable, from Seaside, California, was told in July last year by local government officials that he had to build a 6-foot fence to hide the boat from view of his neighbors.

WTF? Why can they do that? If they want a fence they should have to pay for it.

I wonder what causes this? Genetics, random, maybe issues during speech development as a child?

I voted for Obama but that is an ugly suit.

What system? PC only?

Thanks. It’s the one thing I was looking for and it wasn’t in the video

9 years later, I finally played fallout 4

Having dropped New Vegas in the past due to lost interest, I decided to try this game out finally since a friend of mine was having a fallout 3 playthrough himself. It was it 8 bucks, so I figured why not. I have to say, I put way more hours into this game than both other Bethesda games I’ve played through (Skyrim and...

Did you like the settlement building or no?

Gigan ,

I too was surprised, since Venezuela is almost on the equator.

Three letter agencies are not elected and tyrannical by default.

Shit, I wanted to reproduce his experiment but I don’t have one of those.

The first name that came to mind was Thomas Sowell

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Are you talking about the soldier or the redditor?

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

If that’s true why haven’t we invaded Saudi Arabia? Or put sanctions on them or something.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Then why would they sponsor a terrorist attack against the US?

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

It seems to very a lot from phone to phone. My current phone is terrible. It “corrects” words I don’t want it to, and leaves in obvious typos.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Or when it “corrects” a word I didn’t want, so I delete the part it changed and then type in what I want to say and it “corrects” it again into the same thing I just deleted. Satan could learn a thing or two from whoever invented that “feature.”

That must be the origin of Covid, it explains why they can’t find where it actually came from.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

You don’t have to use credit, taxes are taken from you by force. Not comparable imo.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Are you saying you need credit to live? Because that’s not true. Lot’s of people live that way, but it’s not necessary.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

You can’t do that forever though. Eventually you’ll run out of credit and have to pay for it yourself. And by that point you’re probably getting crushed by the debt from a maxed out card, that you’d have been better off not using in the first place.

So the tens of millions of people that died under communism were all landlords? Wow, what are the chances of that

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Do you have a real-world example of a successful communist state? Because you may not like it, but those “communist” countries are humanities best attempts at enacting communism and they resulted in millions of people dying.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

I think capitalism is good, but not perfect. Communism is bad.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

I think human nature is inherently greedy and selfish, and capitalism is best equipped to use this in a way that benefits society. Workers are motivated to work harder and learn new skills to find the most rewarding job they can. Businesses are motivated to create products and run as efficiently as possible. Consumers are motivated to get as much value as the can out of their money. Everyone in the equation is acting selfishly and in their own self-interest (which I believe humans are inclined to do anyway) but when applied on a societal level, everyone benefits. However I will concede that this is a balancing act that requires some level of government regulation to maintain.

On the other hand, I think communism only works when everyone acts altruistically. Which is noble, but unrealistic.

Gigan , (edited )
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

I agree. Businesses and owners have too much influence. I want more unions, trust-busting, and consumer protections. Workers seem to be organizing more at least, which is a good start.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Wow, I’m shocked it’s that high. I’ve never heard of someone using one.

Gigan ,
@Gigan@lemmy.world avatar

Everyone in my family has one. We play ping pong.

This reads like a joke. 50 years of technological development and people are just playing hi-tech pong.
