Part of the website tells you “how to connect with a nighthawk spirit.” Weirdly, “do some shrooms” is not suggested.

That sonar image is very compelling, but I’m no expert in such things and claims about Earhart’s plane, or at least wreckage from it, being discovered have been made before.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Who was the best ‘person from the 20th century frozen and come back to life on a Federation starship,’ Amelia Earhart, Khan or that country singer dude from the TOS episode where they also unfroze the asshole businessman that found out he was in a post-scarcity society?

I’d say the country singer dude. He was pretty chill.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Whoops. Meant TNG.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t even like country music much and I still would want to hang out with the guy. He just seemed like a cool guy to get to know. And the fact that he took waking up hundreds of years after he was born in stride just made him cooler. Imagine finding out you died, got frozen and ended up in the 24th century and were just like, “well, that’ll happen…”

That’s nothing. It’s established that the transporter can keep you alive indefinitely in the pattern buffer, make an exact copy of you and turn you back into a child.

Hello! I’m here with your regular reminder that Muslim-Americans aren’t Hamas and Jewish-Americans are not Israeli, have a hell of a lot more in common with other Americans than anyone on the other side of the world, and just want to live their lives as well as they can, safely.

Muslim-Americans and Jewish-Americans are not foreigners in America. The first Jews came to North America in 1654, escaping Spanish persecution. The first Muslim was brought to North America against his will as a slave in 1527. Jews and Muslims have been in America longer than many of the people who persecute them for being foreigners.

I don’t think those are the ones whose hatred is increasing and I also don’t think it’s Muslim-Americans attacking Jewish-Americans or vice-versa. It’s a third party who hates one, the other, or both and are emboldened by this war.

I’m Jewish. Every Muslim I have ever met who was born in this country has been far more like me than any Israeli I have ever met, because we have both spent our entire lives steeped in the exact same American culture. And I think they realize that and so do we. We aren’t attacking each other, at least not generally. Because we aren’t the ones generally making these assumptions that Jews are Israeli and Muslims are Hamas. Even the Jews who support Israel and the Muslims who support Hamas who live in the U.S. don’t think those things are universally true in their communities.

a former Federal Aviation Administration employee claimed without citing specific incidents that diversity commitments from airlines could lead to safety issues

Yes, women and black people inherently make airplanes less safe. We should probably not allow them on airplanes at all.

No help: The federal immigration deal won’t fix the migrant crisis in Chicago — and it’s unlikely to pass Congress anyway (www.chicagotribune.com)

The current congressional proposal — one of the most conservative ever, observers say — is ambitious. But immigration laws passed decades ago are dated and can’t be changed easily....

Millennials finally realized that working for soulless corporations is a necessary evil for many of them and shouldn’t rule their lives. Then they passed that news on to Gen Z. The Boomers who thought they had to put their entire lives into working 40 hours a week for shit wages in order to increase shareholder profits don’t get it, especially when they were able to do things like buy houses on their salaries.

These are the kids that grew up seeing how this works and what it did to their parents.

I was half-raised by my retired grandparents because my parents worked so hard. I have done everything I could to spend as much time with my daughter as possible. Which means not bothering with extra job shit.

Do you really not understand the difference between taking a child to a church where they may possibly be assaulted and forcing a child to be sexually tortured? Really?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You cannot make it any more illegal to sexually abuse children in church than it already is. Conversion therapy is legal in a majority of U.S. states. It is legal sexual abuse. That’s a huge difference.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Conversion therapy is sexual abuse. It is legal. Therefore it is legal sexual abuse.

I have a friend who is very happily spending his retirement wargaming- playing games, inventing games, painting models and writing and self-publishing books on wargaming. He seems extremely satisfied.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I agree. I have taught myself to play many instruments in my life. I can’t play any of them well, but that wasn’t the point. The point was to learn how to play a new musical instrument. Sure, I can’t pick up a saxophone right now and sound like John Coltrane, but I know all the essentials of how to play a saxophone, and if I spent a couple of weeks at it, I could probably do some basic, but listenable, jazz on it. With a guitar, I can’t pick it up and play like Jimi Hendrix, but I can play chords and sing along with them. I’ve learned a lot of other instruments at a very amateur level because the joy wasn’t in learning to play them well, it was in learning to play them.

FlyingSquid ,

Some of his miniatures are super miniature too. Like a quarter the size of Warhammer miniatures. And he does a very good job of painting their little Napoleonic uniforms or whatever.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I see, so you mean eventually Mexico would trade with Texas. Sure. Maybe. But not any time soon after they seceded. The U.S. is Mexico’s #1 trading partner. Why would they jeopardize that to help a single breakaway U.S. state?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

they still have better rating and less bias than AlJazeera.

From whom? Let’s see these ratings and compare them.

A person/organisation can win contests despite being biased and spreading misinformation. The fact I spread anti-vax propaganda (I don’t, take it as an example), does not disqualify me from winning a biology competition.

Once again, you seem totally uninterested in jewishpress.com’s possible bias. Why is that?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You didn’t say anything about inaccuracies. You said bias:

That still does not change the fact they are biased, very much against Israel and owned by Qatar where free speech is not a thing.

Also, Media Bias Fact Check does not say Jewish Press is “much less” than Al Jazeera when it comes to bias. In fact, their bias levels are about equal.

FlyingSquid ,

What you said:

they still have better rating and less bias than AlJazeera.

Then you directed me to a website which said they have the same amount of bias.

So either you didn’t think I would check or you didn’t check.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, they are less biased than aljazeera.

The source you told me to look at says they have the same amount of bias. This seems to be a “what are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?” situation.

Have you ever heard of anyone getting attacked by a raptor in a coffee shop?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Okay, if you weren’t saying this wasn’t doable, what on Earth was your point?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, I know, you suggested that it couldn’t be done in the U.S. but your only answer as to why it can’t be done in the in the U.S. when it can be done in other countries is “I don’t know how it works there,” which is a cop-out. Your ignorance of how it works in other countries doesn’t mean it can’t work in the U.S.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You: “A bill for what? How do they know what to bill you for if you don’t tell them where and how you made and spent your money?”

Me: Here is a link to show you how other countries do it.

You: “I just said I don’t know how they do it so I can’t comment on it. I can only comment on the American tax system as an American taxpayer.”

If that is not implying that it can’t be done in the U.S., what did you mean? You apparently didn’t even bother to look at the link to find out how it could be done.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I think I’ve… no, I’ve never done any of that before, sorry.
