Here in Italy they have been smarter… even if some parties received funds linked to “United Russia”, they declared it was in the “pre-war” era, so unrelated to any criminal purpose.

DieguiTux8623 ,

Me neither, but it’s a news of what happened yesterday when a minister had to face a motion of no-confidence (obviously they were confirmed) and used this justification.

Lesson learned: don’t consider Italy a democratic country. It belongs more to middle east than to the EU. 🤣

Cocoa prices hit $10,000 per metric ton for the first time ever (www.cnbc.com)

Difficult weather conditions and disease have affected production in West Africa, which produces about 70% of the world’s cocoa. The two largest producers, Ivory Coast and Ghana, have been hit by a combination of heavy rain, dry heat and disease recently....

Does Reddit shadowban mentions of Lemmy?

In the months since I deleted my Reddit accounts and joined Lemmy, the lack of user base growth has made it clear that we need some users to stay on Reddit as a means of shepherding more users over on an ongoing basis. Otherwise, Reddit simply got what it wanted: less users who make a fuss about how it manages its platform...

If the back end provided support for multi-communities it would work cross-app in the same way… unfortunately it looks like this is not a priority for the time being.

DieguiTux8623 ,

What is the bad news?

DieguiTux8623 ,

Someone wants people to believe we need to grow… The environmental impact says otherwise.

DieguiTux8623 ,

In my country we don’t even have minimum wages so I don’t have to worry about this! 🤣🤣🤣 tsk… first world problems…

The first time some random user files a sue in court the admins of their instance will be in trouble.

Lemmy devs are not affected, but instance admins are and according to the GDPR they are considered “data controllers” and are responsible for the processing of users’ data.

As far as I understand it, this lacking feature is an open “challenge” to existing regulation and legislators, maybe also to open people’s eyes about the fact that privacy claims are often not enforced even by those who claim to do so.

I’m arriving too late, in any case if you are logged and you are in a community screen, the create post option is in the floating action button “+” in the bottom right corner.

After boots on the ground comment, French PM doubles down: 'Putins troops are already in our country', pointing at Le Pen (www.lemonde.fr)

By raising for the first time the idea of sending troops to Ukraine, the French leader “has taken a further step toward belligerence,” blasted his rival Marine Le Pen, of the far-right Rassemblement National (RN) party. She accused him of “posing an existential risk to 70 million French people, and more particularly to our...

Personally I have always thought Attal to be unqualified and inapt for the role. Why is he not arguing about the political program of the opposition instead? Does he have any evidence of this accusation? Seems like a childish way to try to rule out and delegitimize the opposition (which is authoritarianism, not democracy). Le Pen’s far right populism is b…it but this is NOT the way to contrast it.

Spanish speakers could have dropped all the final vowels and basically speak Catalan “los ciudadanos” > “els ciutadans”, easy! two problems (gender inclusivity and secession of Catalonia) solved at once…/s

DieguiTux8623 ,

You are right, I don’t speak Catalan and I was trying to downplay a little on a topic which is dramatic (not for the language per se but for the people who can be hurt by it). Auxlangs, being designed for a purpose, could make some little more effort towards inclusiveness. And that would be one of the few reason to prefer them to natlangs (e.g. for institutional communications).

In my regional dialect we call those worms something that would translate to “furry cats”, which I have always found quite weird… in my language their name refer to their walking in long lines one after the other like it was a ceremonial procession.

DieguiTux8623 ,

In Italian too “la lavatrice”. And the dishwasher too, “la lavastoviglie”. btw we have gender fluid nouns like “the table” = “il tavolo” / “la tavola” with slightly different usage patterns.

Italian and Spanish are easier than French because the final -o (masculine) or -a (feminine) usually give a hint, with a few expections you have to learn by heart (“la mano” meaning “the hand” in both languages for example)…

DieguiTux8623 ,

I was joking, but there are nouns like “tavolo/tavola” or “mattino/mattina” which are used with slightly different meanings in different contexts…

Ursula von der Leyen is seeking a second term as head of the EU's powerful Commission (apnews.com)

Poland's new government deprograms its once far-right public media (www.npr.org)

WARSAW, Poland — It’s 7:30 in the evening in Warsaw, and public news broadcaster TVP Info is about to broadcast live to millions of viewers across Poland. Producers in a crowded control room scurry in and out, sometimes stopping to peer through a narrow window into a studio where the host reads from a teleprompter....

DieguiTux8623 ,

Good luck to all Europe… we’re doomed!

DieguiTux8623 ,

Sad but true. And not only Poland, every single European country will either have to choose which superpower to pay tributes to.

DieguiTux8623 ,

Why are the Guardian and the Observer becoming aware of this fact that happened a month ago?

DieguiTux8623 ,

Yes but no… the proclaim was made on the national television, which has created diplomatic issues (as well as domestic issues because the government can not allow this message on a public channel, since Italy is official on Israel’s side).

After having received a reprimand from Israel’s ambassador and made some politician very angry (there will be a dedicated question time in parliament), the CEO of the public TV broadcasted a message in which he told all of Italy is against terrorism and supports Israel fully and unconditionally. Which is not true, he can speak for himself, his channel, the government if he dares but definitely NOT the entire population of the country.

And the career of Ghali, the rapper who said those 3 words “stop the gen…” is seriously at risk now.

Apple was just forced to crack open its App Store — but the changes are already being called 'hot garbage' (ca.finance.yahoo.com)

Apple was just forced to crack open its App Store — but the changes are already being called ‘hot garbage’::Changes to how apps are distributed on iPhones should be welcomed by developers, but many are unhappy with some describing them as “hot garbage.”

DieguiTux8623 ,

Their malicious compliance and resentful behavior is bad advertisement in any case, both for app developers and for users. Yes, most people don’t care but I hope some will realize who they are dealing with.

Why did they vote him in the first place? And it these protesters are the ones who didn’t actually vote him, why don’t they accept the will of the majority? The government isn’t committing crimes against humanity like mass deportations or other last century’s madnesses, so it’s just how democracy works.

DieguiTux8623 ,

Thanks, clearer now!

DieguiTux8623 ,

This is the price the EU has to pay for having wanted to expand to the East without verifying that the annexed countries were meeting requirements or were mature enough democracies. And the price to pay is immobilism today (in a situation that would rather require action) and doom tomorrow.

But, since we are on Lemmy where the average user goes like “Europeans are ex-colonialist capitalist exploiters and need to be eaten alive”, in the end I think the situation is going towards the better for humanity.

DieguiTux8623 ,

I didn’t remember the correct English word, but the meaning was clear. Anyway my comment only applies to the country entering the EU, about which Fico was more lukewarm than about NATO membership.

DieguiTux8623 , (edited )

This happened during a historical commemorative event (for an episode happened in the 70s where some people who belonged to a far right group were killed and the perpetrators were never processed) which happens every year and nobody ever cared about it. Suddenly I’m 2024 everyone is pointing fingers.

Italy is what it is, everyone here who feels superior and judge should look at their own country: all Europe (East and West, South and North) is leaning towards the far right except Spain, so don’t feel so superior. Even not agreeing with any f#scist regime, being told that we are a “sh#t country” or other things written in the comments here is not pleasant at all.

DieguiTux8623 ,

Agree… but some innovation is needed in the opposition because the current left wing parties in Italy have betrayed their electoral basis quite a few times in the past and people (workers, middle class, the majority of the population in practice, except high bourgeoisie and the ultra-rich) don’t feel represented any more.

DieguiTux8623 ,

I personally have a gut feeling of rejection for every language having the unless keyword. This is why I hardly know any PERL and Ruby for example.

I have mixed feelings towards Kotlin’s takeUnless scope function (I nearly always use takeIf with a negated predicate) because my mind forgets the unless version exists.

DieguiTux8623 ,

With the ridiculous salaries they will be offered and the poor shift organization they will find, even foreign doctors will last very little. Unless they are forced to sign long term “slavery style” contracts with penalties if they resign earlier.

Italy is turning to private healthcare, there’s no way back. And the US demonstrate to the world that this is a winning model… right? right? oh sh*t…

DieguiTux8623 ,

We’re family: Catholic, Latinos, good food, sun and beach ⛱️ who cares for the healthcare system, one day we will all be dead anyway!

DieguiTux8623 ,

In my country, 2030 is foreseen as the year the public retirement plan administration system will collapse due to this.

Dismantling public healthcare is a solution our government is already going for to the detriment of everyone (unfortunately) but public retirement plans cannot be changed retroactively to any extent, they are reducing the highest pensions and blocking the rest of them (inflation will de facto lower even the blocked ones) while at the same time increasing the retirement age progressively but still it isn’t enough.

We’re doomed, no matter how much blood and tears.

DieguiTux8623 ,

I’m ashamed to tell because people will start yelling… but it’s in my bio.

DieguiTux8623 ,

Correct guess! 😂

I received a strong catholic education, the red and blue are symbols for the blood and water that came out from Jesus side when he was pierced by a Roman soldier, John 19:34

Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
