That would have been around the same time that I did too. High five Linux twin!

Churbleyimyam ,

Crocs. Technically two items but you need a pair to get the benefits.

Self hosting is awesome. I self host an email server, website, file transfer server, xmpp chat server, Nextcloud (for calendar and contact sync and video conferencing), and a search engine on a single VPS which costs me £4 per month. No previous background in web admin at all!

Churbleyimyam ,

I heard an elderly Indian gentleman refer to toilet paper as “The smearing method”

Churbleyimyam ,

I wonder how many people have used one of these to look down their peehole.

Churbleyimyam ,

@pixeltree In what way has it fucked you up? I’ve been at home a lot recently and I think I’m feeling it…

Churbleyimyam ,

Yeah, just the standard ones. Yeah I think that’s a great idea. In fact just yesterday I bought some new slippers from the supermarket which turned out to be badly designed chinesium prototype slippers and thought about just having a second pair of crocs for indoors. I just checked and you can even get fluffy lined ones!!

Churbleyimyam ,

Peachy. Then indeed my premises are well fortified.

I’m wondering whether all these things we do on the internet have been shit all along but they have just reached a threshold we can’t tolerate any more, no matter how addicted we are to it. Torrenting ebooks and films and then going into aeroplane mode is the way forward imo.

What is your process for watching a video? For me to do it like this I currently have to copy the link, open a terminal, download the video with yt-dlp, navigate to the file, open it and then watch it. And then usually delete it. I’m curious if there is a faster or simpler way…

Churbleyimyam ,

I got it working with yt-dlp. I had to reinstall mpv as a flatpak from flathub; it wouldn’t work with a package install from my repo or a flatpak from fedora. I think at least as of yesterday it needed to be a very up-to-date release. Posting in case this helps someone else.

I’ve been following my own wordpress site from pixelfed and mastodon for months… Why is this news?

Churbleyimyam ,

I wonder why the plugin was held back from their users.

Churbleyimyam ,

“Non-existent man publicly called out for misappropriating clay tablet.”

Churbleyimyam ,

Did she wake up? Mine always wakes up.

Churbleyimyam ,

Would something like this also work for the headphones port?

Churbleyimyam ,

I think I might have this too… does the condition have a name?

Churbleyimyam ,

Bandcamp Fridays! I buy music through bandcamp too. Some music is available as WAV but I usually go for flac. I love having my music collection on my own hardware again after years of using a streaming subscription. Somehow it feels closer to my heart, where it belongs.

Churbleyimyam ,

Ok, I don’t have those things, just some memory loss. Wishing you well

Churbleyimyam ,

Yeah, I used to turn to such activities because it was cheaper, now I do it because it’s simpler/easier.

Churbleyimyam ,

That’s cheap. Where do I sign up?

Churbleyimyam ,

Imagine eating cold toast because your phone ran out battery.

Churbleyimyam ,

Does anyone realise how expensive that is? I reckon you could run a lemmy or mastodon instance charging users 1% of that.

Churbleyimyam ,

If you just need a general purpose desktop and it’s your your first time, I would suggest just picking a popular and stable one with lots of documentation like Debian, Mint or Ubuntu.

Churbleyimyam ,

In what way?

Churbleyimyam ,

You make a fair point. ProtonVPN was a nightmare for me to set up and get working too but I think that’s Proton’s fault more than Linux’s. I have many other applications that I simply installed with one click from the Software application and then have never needed to touch again. It seems not all app developers are equally motivated to make their stuff easy to run.

Churbleyimyam ,

Yeah I would definitely choose Debian in that case. Enjoy :)

Churbleyimyam ,

I agree. Still, I can’t help but expect better from Proton.

Churbleyimyam ,

I think it depends on what you’re trying to do. Normal stuff like web browsing, email and working with documents is fine. For example, my partner has been running her business from a Linux laptop for the last year or so and I don’t think she ever touches the terminal.
